My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. So, if you love the heart, optimism, great story, and fantastic animation...

World sales are being handled by Sublimity Entertainment, which will be presenting the film to international distributors at the Cannes marketplace.
Set in New York City, Uppercut begins in 2014 as Toni (Luiii), a determined fighter, seeks out Elliott (Ving Rhames), a former boxer turned gym owner in gritty Bushwick. It culminates in a final showdown that alters Toni’s destiny profoundly.
Years later, Toni, now a pioneering female boxing manager, guides Payne (Jordan E. Cooper) to his first championship fight, drawing upon Elliott’s wisdom. On this very night, Toni might not only lose a fight, but also herself,...

A remake of the ’90s classic “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead” is coming to theaters in spring.
Simone Joy Jones, Nicole Richie and June Squibb will lead an ensemble including Jermaine Fowler (“Superior Donuts”), comic Ms. Pat, Olympian Gus Kenworthy, as well as newcomers Donielle Tremaine Hansley, Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson and Tyriq Withers.
Like the 1991 film, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” follows 17-year-old girl Tanya (Jones), who plans to vacation in Europe with her friends before heading to college in the fall. But her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to go to a wellness retreat in Thailand, so Tanya is forced to stay home with her siblings. When — as the title suggests — their elderly babysitter (Squibb) unexpectedly dies, Tayna gets a job working for an ambitious woman named Rose (Ritchie). As she juggles work, family and a complicated romance, Tanya navigates adulthood at the cost of her last summer of freedom.

Nearly four years have gone by since it was announced that Treehouse Pictures was developing a remake of the 1991 Christina Applegate cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (watch it Here) that would be directed by Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop and the Honey quadrilogy) from a screenplay by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People). All that was revealed about the project at the time was that it would be “a present-day retelling centered on a black family.” Then that’s the last we heard about it. Apparently it made its way through production while flying under the radar, though, because Film Ratings has revealed that the remake has already received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board… and it’s a surprising one. While the original film was rated PG-13, the remake has earned an R rating for “teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”

“It really is a fairy tale, an Oldenburg fairy tale,” says Torsten Ruether, speaking about his new movie Uppercut, “how this movie came together feels magical, somehow.”
Two years ago, Ruether was in Oldenburg, Germany’s leading indie film festival, presenting his debut feature, Leberhaken, a low-budget boxing movie with a distinctly Million Dollar Baby vibe: Newcomer Luise Großmann stars as a promising young pugilist who tries to persuade a disillusioned trainer (Hardy Daniel Krueger) to take her on as a pupil.
“We had the premiere, opening night, and at the party afterward a number of U.S. producers came up to me and said: ‘This is the kind of story American love. It’s been nearly 20 years since Million Dollar Baby. We want to redo this for the U.S.'”

A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has been released this morning, and in this episode we’re looking back at one of the least popular films to be directed by the legendary John Carpenter: the 2001 release Ghosts of Mars (watch it Here). Why didn’t Ghosts of Mars turn out to be another Carpenter classic? We try to figure that out in the video embedded above.
Directed by Carpenter from a script he wrote with Larry Sulkis, Ghosts of Mars has the following synopsis: Long inhabited by human settlers, the Red Planet has become the manifest destiny of an over-populated Earth. Nearly 640,000 people now live and work all over Mars, mining the planet for its abundant natural resources. But one of those mining operations has uncovered a deadly mother lode: a long-dormant Martian civilization whose warriors are systematically taking over the bodies of human intruders.

There was every reason to expect "Club Paradise" would be the comedy smash of Summer 1986. Harold Ramis was two-for-two as a director thanks to "Caddyshack" and "National Lampon's Vacation," and scorching hot off the blockbuster success of "Ghostbusters." Ramis had reunited with his "National Lampoon's Animal House" collaborator Chris Miller to hammer out the story, and hooked up once again with his "Caddyshack" co-writer Brian Doyle-Murray for the screenplay. And then there was the cast: Robin Williams, Peter O'Toole, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Robin Duke, and Mary Gross. How could a film stuffed with this much comedic talent possibly miss?
Aside from Ramis and Levy playing a couple of hapless, horn-dog tourists who inadvertently score a trash bag full of marijuana, just about nothing works in "Club Paradise." The notion of a retired Chicago firefighter (Williams) starting up a ramshackle Caribbean resort with his disability money sounds promising,...

Blade Runner star Rutger Hauer did not see his character as a villain, and the actor took some exception to that notion while doing press for the film’s initial release.
The iconic Ridley Scott sci-fi movie set in 2019 Los Angeles starring Harrison Ford as a former police officer tasked with hunting down synthetic humans turns 40 on Saturday.
In an interview for the film’s 1982 release, the Netherlands-born Hauer, while being flattered by a journalist about his good looks, was asked why he would want to play a “villain” in the film when he was handsome enough to be the hero. A polite Hauer responded that he did not see his character, Roy Batty, in the same light.

Exclusive: Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model) has signed on for a role in Treehouse Pictures’ remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is heading into production in Los Angeles in July.
The original 1991 film, from director Stephen Herek, follows Sue Ellen “Swell” Crandell (Christina Applegate), a 17-year-old forced to take care of her four younger siblings after the babysitter hired by her mother dies while mom’s out of town. While the Warner Bros comedy also starring Joanna Cassidy, Keith Coogan, John Getz and Josh Charles didn’t land as a major hit, either critically or commercially, it has fostered a cult following in the decades since.
Treehouse’s remake is billed as a present-day retelling centered on a Black family. Banks will play Cassidy’s character Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on Swell by hiring her as an executive assistant.

Some fun guest stars appear in Leverage: Redemption Season 1 to make it very much a family-oriented show — especially behind the scenes. Noah Wyle’s (corporate lawyer-turned-fixer Harry Wilson) real-life wife and daughter, and Gina Bellman’s (grifter Sophie Devereaux) daughter will appear in the second half of the first season (dropping October 8 on IMDb TV), TV Insider has learned. And even better: the kids will be acting opposite their parents. Bellman’s child, Romy Sethna, guest stars as the daughter of a legendary grifter, Stella (Joanna Cassidy), in Episode 11, “The Jackal Job.” In the episode, the team explores Stella’s failing memory to try and find her greatest score before her abusive Elder Guardian can get his hands on it and take over her life. As Leverage did in its original run, one of the team will be playing Stella in the flashbacks, and in this case, it’s, of course,...

You've probably heard the report that 78 year old Harrison Ford has suffered a shoulder injury prepping for a scene in the as yet untitled Indiana Jones 5. We've already heard his age mentioned in a joking manner around the web but we're not going to join in the ageism of that. We would just like to point out that if Harrison Ford is going to do this at 79 (his birthday is in a couple of weeks) why can't actresses get action roles at that age? Well, okay, they let Helen Mirren do it a couple of times but we can never have enough actressy action and James Cameron takes decades off between movies.
Herewith a list of women who are similar age to Harrison Ford who we'd love to see in an action flick. Sorry not sorry...
Joanna Cassidy (75) still popping up on TV and always fun to watch.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the series finale of NCIS: New Orleans.
On Monday, NCIS: New Orleans came to the end of its seventh and final season, going out on a celebratory note.
The series finale, titled “Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler,” picks up with Pride (Scott Bakula) on the eve of his wedding to Rita (his real-life wife Chelsea Field), as he continues to dig into an attack on his half brother Jimmy (Jason Alan Carvell) and Connor (Drew Scheid), the son he’s only recently come to know.
Initially, it seems like the attack came from one of his mother Sasha’s (Callie Thorne) many enemies. It ultimately comes out, though, that Sasha had the attack staged, so that she could take Connor into Witness Protection, without Pride intervening. While it looks for a moment like Connor is going to skip town with his mother,...

Sean Young opens up in a new interview with The Daily Beast about how her career was derailed by top directors such as Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone, Warren Beatty, and more. Speaking of Scott, who cast Young in a career-defining role as the replicant love interest Rachael in “Blade Runner,” the actress alleged the film’s aggressive love scene between her and Harrison Ford was the result of Scott’s interest in dating Young and Young turning him down.
“Well, honestly, Ridley [Scott] wanted me to date him. He tried very hard in the beginning of the show to date him, and I never would,” Young said. “I was like, nah. And then he started dating the actress who played Zhora, Joanna Cassidy, and I felt relieved. And then we do this scene, and I think it was Ridley. Sean Young, best known for her roles in “Blade Runner” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” has been acting in Hollywood for over 40 years — and has seen a lot. Once branded as difficult to work with and blacklisted in Hollywood, Young revealed how her career was sabotaged by a handful of “powerful, terribly vindictive men.”
In an interview with the Daily Beast’s Marlow Stern, the actor said she doesn’t think of herself as strong-willed, but she “did make men nervous — and for no particular reason” back in the ’80s. During the interview, Stern mentioned the David Letterman interview where Young flaunted her armpit hair, to which she said Letterman was “intimidated” in the moment.
“David’s much more insecure than he lets on,” Young said. “He’s a great guy, though. In my opinion, it’s much more common for show business to attract very insecure people. People who need approval.

In quintessential Logan Roy fashion, the HBO series “Succession” absolutely dominated Emmy nominations in terms of acting recognition. After an across-the-board snub by the acting branch last year, the Roy family came roaring back with an impressive nine acting bids, over-performing our own high expectations. In addition to the blindside of Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) sneaking into the competitive Supporting Actor category, “Succession” also picked up an unexpected nomination for Harriet Walter, who only 222 of our users correctly predicted––this author included.
Though Walter’s nomination indicates just how much the acting branch loved and paid close attention to the second season of the series, her surprise appearance in the category could potentially stymie a “Succession” victory in the Guest Actress category, where two-time Emmy-winner Cherry Jones also competes for her “Succession” turn as media mogul Nan Pierce. Might the surprise, second nomination in this category actually cost “Succession” some Emmy gold?...

Ratification ballots are in the mail for the new SAG-AFTRA contract, with pro and con statements from opponents and proponents. Opponents have issued a minority report urging members to vote no, saying that the deal “enshrines historic losses and missed opportunities.” Proponents, saying that this is the best deal in the union’s history, are urging a “yes” vote. The union will be holding a series of virtual information meetings later this month.
On Monday, voting along the guild’s fractious party lines, nearly one-third of the national board of directors voted to reject the contract. And although they fell short of achieving the threshold required to trigger the board’s consideration of a minority report, the guild included their dissenting opinion in the ratification package that’s now been sent to members.

Exclusive: Treehouse Pictures has set in motion what it’s describing as a diverse remake of 1991 coming-of-age comedy, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is being written by Chuck Hayward with Bille Woodruff attached to direct. Hayward’s take is a present-day retelling centered on a black family.
Treehouse’s Justin Nappi and Juliet Berman are producing along with Oren Segal. Executive producers are Michael Phillips — also an Ep on the original — Juliana Maio and Tova Laiter.
The 1991 film, which was directed by Stephen Herek, starred Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and Josh Charles. It follows Sue Ellen Crandell, a teenager who is forced to take charge of her four younger siblings when their mom leaves town and the wicked babysitter her mother hired suddenly dies. Despite the fact that the film wasn’t a huge success critically or commercially, it amassed a significant cult following.

No horror fan needs to be introduced to the likes of Robert Englund, a name which in the collective imagery has become synonymous with so many different and varied aspects of the genre that he has left a deep and undeniable mark on. Needless to say, the thread holding together Englund’s celluloid persona is streaked with red and dark green, but the Californian actor could also resonate with many for the work he did with Tobe Hooper; his participation in ’90s items such as Urban Legend (1998), Strangeland (1998), and Wishmaster (1997); his previous work, during a time in which Freddy was still taking shape in the mind of Wes Craven, including Bruce D. Clark’s Galaxy of Terror (1981); or his recurring role as “Willie” in the TV series V (1983–1985).

Gabrielle Carteris Re-Elected President of SAG-AFTRA, But “Loyal Opposition” Makes Major Gains In La
Update: SAG-AFTRA presidential candidate Matthew Modine has conceded defeat, sort of. The election was marred by some mudslinging from each side, and in a statement Modine appears to be keeping options open if the election is scrutinized.
“I am proud of our campaign for transparency and the goal of uniting all 160,000 members of SAG-aftra,” Modine said. “It has been an honor to stand with you. I congratulate all of our MembershipFirst candidates on winning important victories tonight. Each will be instrumental in forming a more perfect union. It appears there has already been a challenge from outside of the political groups with allegations of impropriety and possible Federal election law violations. Therefore, as a matter of principal it is important to withhold judgment until it is determined that the election was held fairly and in compliance with the labor code. If it is determined that the election was...

Gabrielle Carteris has been re-elected president of SAG-aftra, fending off challenges from Matthew Modine and three other contenders.
Carteris won handily with 13,537 votes, or 44% of ballots cast, to 10,682 for Modine and 5,048 for Jane Austin, 1,096 for Queen Alljahye Searles and 367 for Abraham Justice.
The results were announced early Thursday morning at 4 a.m. following one of the most bitter election campaigns in memory, including multiple accusations of misconduct.
Camryn Manheim won the secretary-treasurer post with 16,047 votes, or 53%, as Carteris’ running mate. She defeated Modine ally Jodi Long, who garnered 10,251 votes, followed by Chuck Slavin with 2,204 votes and Rob Stats with 1,790. The union mailed a total of 145,700 ballots, so the participation level was about 21%.
Carteris, best known for playing Andrea Zuckerman on “Beverly Hills 90210,” has been president since 2016. She and her allies in the moderate-leaning Unite For Strength and United Screen Actors Nationwide have been in control of SAG-AFTRA and SAG for a decade.

Membership First, the “loyal opposition” at SAG-AFTRA, has unveiled its slate of candidates in the upcoming elections. Patricia Richardson is running for president of the guild’s Los Angeles local, and Frances Fisher and David Jolliffe are vying for two local vice president slots. As previously reported, Matthew Modine heads the slate in his bid to unseat Gabrielle Carteris as president of SAG-aftra, and Jodi Long is running for national secretary-treasurer.
Richardson, who is the La local’s first vp, was defeated by incumbent Ken Howard four years ago in the race for president of the 160,000-member union — “We have the largest local, half the union’s members,” Richardson said in her campaign statement. “Our building, doubling as national headquarters and our home, now a construction site rented at $6,000,000 a year, is inadequate for our needs. We still have to rent other spaces for any large meetings. Thanks to Membership First,...

Like most of his peers in horror’s hallowed halls, Wes Craven contributed his share to the small screen; Summer of Fear (1978), Chiller (1985), and several episodes of The Twilight Zone revival (’85–’86) are indications of an artist who liked to keep busy and sometimes pay some bills. Invitation to Hell (’84) would seem to be a case for the latter, but it has an irresistibly goofy charm that’s impossible to resist.
Originally an ABC broadcast from Thursday, May 24th, Invitation stood no hope in you know where of winning the night; CBS had Magnum, P.I. and Simon & Simon, while the Peacock strutted around with their comedy lineup of Gimme A Break!/Family Ties/Cheers/Night Court. Those were impossible odds, even for the devil himself. Oh well. Throw on your tracksuit, grab your water bottle, because you’ve just received your Invitation to Hell.
