The prequel film we have all been waiting for is finally here and I am really happy to say that it is as brilliant and bombastic as the original film. Obviously, we are talking about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to George Miller‘s 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by Miller from a screenplay by Nico Lathouris and Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows the story of a young Furiosa as she is taken from Green Place of Many Mothers and tries to survive in the wasteland while trying to get back home but the war between great biker horde’s warlord Dementus and Immortan Joe makes it harder. Replacing Charlize Theron from Fury Road, Anya Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa in the prequel film and it also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, and Nathan Jones. So,...

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, which released this year, boasted an incredible cinematic experience for the audiences. One of the primary highlights of the Dune franchise has been the Sandworms. The colossal spice-producing worms on the planet of Arrakis were hauntingly beautiful and provided an exceptional theater experience.
One might think that the sandworm must be the toughest part of the franchise based on Frank Herbert’s works. However, the mastermind behind both the Dune films, Villeneuve has claimed that the Desert Mouse was no cakewalk as well.

Even after successfully bringing the mammoth Sandworms on-screen, Denis Villeneuve admitted that the small Desert Mouse demanded a lot of work from the creative department.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 adventure novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again," Bilbo Baggins and his merry band of stern dwarf friends are apprehended by a marauding group of wicked goblins and dragged into their dank underground lair. The lead dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield, is targeted as a particular threat by the Goblin King as he is carrying a unique sword called Orcrist, the Goblin-Cleaver. Orcrist, according to Tolkien's lore, was forged millennia ago by expert elf swordsmiths, and passed down through generations. It is a magic sword that glows when orcs are nearby, warning its wielder of danger. Later in "The Hobbit," Thorin would lose Orcrist when he was captured by the Wood-elves of Mirkwood -- though it was eventually returned to him.

Although he has been making massively successful and critically acclaimed projects for years, his name has only recently entered the mainstream media after he started working on the Dune series. Since then, his filmmaking has been appreciated for the gift that it is, and respect has been put in his name.

Murray’s most recent project with the New Zealand Film Commission is a pop-up intensive film school by writer and director Jane Campion. Andy Serkis is no stranger to dual roles. The groundbreaking pioneer in motion-capture work may be most well known among general audiences for his casting in "The Lord of the Rings" as Gollum/Sméagol, everybody's favorite two-faced little gremlin, but that only scratches the surface of his contributions to film over the decades. Serkis has since expanded his talents from acting to directing ("Mowgli: The Legend of the Jungle" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" were but a warm-up for his recent announcement as director and star of "The Hunt for Gollum"), delivered a genuinely award-worthy performance as the ape Caesar in the previous "The Planet of the Apes" trilogy, and even found time to depict two very different "Star Wars" characters as Supreme Leader Snoke in "The Last Jedi" and hardened prisoner Kino Loy in "Andor."

Out of nowhere, a new Lord of the Rings movie was recently announced — and with the most surprising premise, too! The upcoming movie will focus on the person we know as Gollum — but more specifically, on the person he used to be before turning into that nauseating creature. Gollum was once called Smeagol, and it’s his story the movie seeks to finally explore after so many years.

Recently, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, and Philippa Boyens sat down with Deadline to discuss the unexpected Lord of the Rings prequel. The original trilogy’s team is eager to get back in action, and they gladly revealed what few details have been set in stone so far. The most obvious question is, why make a Gollum movie at all?

The blockbuster franchises are showing signs of serious wear and tear, so why don’t the studios take on newer worlds created by the likes of Christopher Nolan and Alex Garland?
Some of the greatest genre movies of all time are sequels. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back; Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan; The Godfather Part II; The Dark Knight; Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow. Ok, maybe not that last one, but you get the idea. In 2014, Naomi Watts voiced an animated version of herself in the “BoJack Horseman” episode “One Trick Pony.” The Watts in Hollywoo — the “BoJack” stand-in for the entertainment industry’s epicenter, inhabited mostly by anthropomorphic animals — is starring opposite BoJack in a biopic about his frenemy, Mr. Peanutbutter. She appears on set preparing to play Diane, a burgeoning writer. The meta joke is the actress accepted the part to get a break from emotionally draining, praiseworthy performances.
“I just keep getting pigeonholed as these complex characters in highly acclaimed movies,” the animated Watts bemoans to a character who is a parody of host Ryan Seacrest (A Ryan Seacrest Type). “For once, I would just love to phone it in and play a two-dimensional girl in a rom-com with no inner life of her own. That’s kind of the reason I got into this business.”
Ten years later, that tongue-in-cheek guest appearance now feels almost prophetic.

After four decades of filmmaking, Renny Harlin isn’t slowing down in the slightest. The journeyman director, who’s most known for Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, is back on the big screen with The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film in a trilogy that he’s already shot across 52 days in Slovakia.
Chapter 1 stays true to Bryan Bertino’s 2008 horror classic, The Strangers, only it imagines a scenario where an analogue for Liv Tyler’s character definitively survives the central home invasion, setting up Chapter Two and Three. Madelaine Petsch’s Maya is now filling that protagonist role, as her cross-country road trip to Portland results in her and her boyfriend (Froy Gutierrez’s Ryan) having to stay at a small town Airbnb due to car trouble. That’s when the Strangers crawl out of the woodwork to play their patented cat-and-mouse game.

The production of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films is beyond impressive; a story set in the backdrop of an arid desert landscape will always be a sight to behold. This, however, is not an easy movie to make. Interestingly, the director planned to shoot the movies back-to-back.

Last week, Warner Bros. announced plans for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new movie set near the beginning of the original trilogy starring and directed by Andy Serkis.
Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who wrote the previous movies, are set to pen the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). Filmmaker Peter Jackson, meanwhile, is producing the project.
In a lengthy interview with Deadline, the latter elaborated on why Gollum's origin story was the right focus for the first of what's expected to be a whole slate of spin-offs.
"The Gollum/Sméagol character has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst of human nature, whilst his Sméagol side is, arguably, quite sympathetic," Jackson said. "I think he connects with readers and film audiences alike, because there’s a little bit of both of them in all of us.

As the Lord of the Rings franchise has pulled in nearly $6 billion over the course of six movies, it was only natural that Warner Bros. would return to the well. That’s why it didn’t come as a big surprise when it was announced that more Lord of the Rings movies are in development, the first of which will be Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
In addition to reprising his role as Gollum, Andy Serkis is set to direct The Hunt for Gollum, which will be written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and produced by Peter Jackson. As for why the Og Lord of the Rings team has decided to return to Middle-earth, Jackson told Deadline that although we saw some of Gollum’s backstory in the previous six movies, there’s still a lot of story to be told.

It’s been 23 years since Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring hit the theatres. There has been no turning back for the franchise ever since. Based on Jrr Tolkien’s books of the same name, the Og trilogy won fans over with not only the representation of Middle Earth, but also the characters with whom the people could resonate. Over two decades after the release of the first film, Jackson returns, taking fans back to the Middle Earth to explore the character arc of Gollum.

How do you craft an entirely new story about a character that we've seen depicted throughout one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time -- especially when one of those movies already laid out his origin story in its opening 10 minutes? Since I'm not a studio executive desperate to keep one of their biggest cash cows going with the recently-announced "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" film, I'm in the fortunate position of not having to be the one to provide answers to such burning questions. But for those with much more personal stakes involved in this unexpected new journey, namely producer Peter Jackson and returning star-turned-director Andy Serkis, this conundrum only made them all the more excited to sink their teeth into the IP's biggest live-action project since "The Hobbit" trilogy.

While everyone is talking about the next live-action Lord of the Rings film, the Hunt for Gollum, which will include Peter Jackson making a comeback to the franchise, WB Animation has been quietly working on its previously announced Lord of the Rings animated picture.
First revealed in June 2021 during 20th anniversary celebrations of the film franchise, WB shared the first details on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Described as an anime movie, the project was subsequently confirmed to be a collaboration between WB Animation and Tokyo-based Solo Entertainment.
Earlier this week, WB Animation confirmed that The War of the Rohirrim would be showcased at next month's Annecy Film Festival and also released three hi-res versions of previously released conceptual images from the film. Specifically, the first footage from the film will be showcased (and hopefully) uploaded near the time of the panel.

Exclusive: Since Warner Bros acquired rights to make more Middle-earth films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works and the canon established by New Line’s original trilogy, Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings cohorts Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens hovered over the proceedings for a long time, as they mulled how to return, and much to involve themselves into another deep dive into Tolkien mythology.
As a business proposition, the allure is easy to understand: the two trilogies – the six Lotr and The Hobbit films — generated nearly $6 billion in worldwide grosses and enough Oscar gold to fill the lair of the dragon Smaug from 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Go back 23 years, and the road was far more perilous when New Line founder Bob Shaye greenlit three Lotr movies that Jackson shot one after the other in New Zealand. One of the biggest gambles in film history,...

The Wizarding World never ceases to amaze with its magical appeal. This applies not only to millennials who have been exposed to the Harry Potter ongoing books and movies as children, but also to younger generations as today's kids are no less delighted to read J.K. Rowling's books and watch the films.
Speaking of the latter, the Warner Bros. film series wouldn't be nearly as magical without the cast, who have been the source of many laughs, tears... and bloopers! Here are 10 of the most hilarious on-set errors from the Harry Potter movies.

Denis Villeneuve has worked some cinematic magic by making not one but two successful "Dune" movies, especially since for years people considered Frank Herbert's sci-fi tome to be unadaptable. Villeneuve broke Herbert's book in half, starting off with "Dune" released in 2021, and then continuing things with this year's "Dune: Part Two" (you can read our review right here). While Villeneuve always intended to make two films (the first movie's title card proclaimed it to be "Dune: Part One" before a second film was even officially given the green light in the public), he didn't shoot the movies back to back — there was a bit of a gap between productions.
But as it turns out, that wasn't the original plan. According to Villeneuve himself, his initial goal was to shoot "Dune" and "Dune: Part Two" back-to-back, similar to what Peter Jackson did with his glorious "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Anime fans might not know this, but Hideaki Anno’s Neon Genesis Evangelion was probably one of the first anime series to revolutionize the anime world by introducing giant robot monsters fighting with each other while being piloted mostly by teenagers. While there were other series that were working on such narratives, no one was able to make it as big as Anno.

The shadow of Xu Zhonglin's influential novel “The Investiture of the Gods” looms long over Chinese popular culture. As one of the most well-regarded vernacular epics since the 16th century, its heady blend of history and mythology has been a creatively enticing gauntlet for many filmmakers. Before now, the last big-budget stab at the material was 2016's 3D flop “League of Gods”, led by an all-star cast including Jet Li, Tony Leung Ka-Fai and Louis Koo, and still somehow won Worst Picture at that year's Golden Broom Awards. The crown now lies heavy on the head of filmmaker Wuershan, a director experienced in the fantasy genre (his “Painted Skin 2: The Resurrection” was at one time China's highest grossing movie domestically) but still holding the great responsibility of condensing 100 chapters of beloved high-concept magic and action into a movie…or three. Does the first chapter, “Kingdom of Storms”, capture...

Tolkien IP arrives on the streamer. Prime Video released a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette Monday. The drama series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books with an ensemble cast of familiar faces mixed with new characters. Both George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien have been some of the biggest names in the fantasy genre, each renowned for their extensive literary creations that have sparked beloved TV adaptations and blockbuster movies. Martin has openly expressed his admiration for Tolkien’s work on Middle Earth, a realm teeming with fantastical races, intricate languages, and epic battles.

The Lord of the Rings game, Gollum, was… not a hit, to say the least. Our review called it a “waste of your precious time,” and for good reason. So when news came out that more franchise games were in the works, people couldn’t help but feel skeptical.
At least it can’t get any worse, right? That’s what we’d like to think, but many have already condemned the idea to be “trash” or have outright rejected it. Embracer CEO Lee Guinchard seems to have a lot of hope, however, as relayed in a recent interview.

Fresh off the news that Warner Bros is re-teaming with Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis for their Gollum spin-off, comes Prime Video’s announcement of the return of their own ambitious Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power. The new trailer teases the return of Charlie Vickers’s Sauron, sporting a new look, with the season making its debut on August 29th.
Despite being the most ambitious series in Prime Video’s history, it’s worth noting that the first season got a rather middling reception from fans. Whether or not the show was seen as a success for Prime ended up being a matter of perspective, with the streamer boasting that it had the streamer’s biggest premiere ever. Ready your elven forge. Today brings us some big news for the most annoying people you know. Seemingly out of nowhere, "The Lord of the Rings" has become a hot commodity once again between the recent announcement of the "Hunt for Gollum" spin-off/prequel movie, this year's upcoming animated effort titled "The War of the Rohirrim," and, of course, the ongoing television show that's caused no controversy or divided opinions whatsoever known as "The Rings of Power."
Set thousands of years prior to the events of "The Fellowship of the Ring" during the period known as the Second Age, season 1 of the wildly expensive streaming series was a solid and enjoyable enough experience that attempted to reach the same heights as Peter Jackson's original trilogy. It may not have become the instant "Game of Thrones"-sized cultural juggernaut that Prime Video was likely hoping for -- it's worth noting that even the hit...

The action-packed first look focuses on the rise of the fearsome and powerful villain during Middle-earth’s Second Age, as Sauron (Charlie Vickers) disguises himself as an elf to aid Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) in the forging of the titular rings of power. All sorts of menacing creatures — orcs, creeping tree vines, an oozing morass of wormy goo — appear to pollute the land, while many of the characters from Season 1 ready themselves for battle, including Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry).

Hugo Weaving’s iconic way of speaking has become synonymous with villainous roles, but the actor is no stranger to playing positive characters, with one notable example being Elron Half-elven. Appearing in all three The Lord of the Rings entries, Weaving played the character to perfection and was lauded by fans and critics for bringing the character’s archaic style of speech to life.
But despite garnering critical acclaim for his portrayal of the noble ruler, Weaving had no interest in stepping into Elrond’s shoes ever again, as he isn’t particularly a fan of the character.
