Director George Lucas surprised cinemagoers with his uniquely charming space-opera film Star Wars, released in 1977. The film became a cultural phenomenon and spawned a franchise with several sequels, prequels, and spin-off media that have continued to expand upon Lucas’ original idea for a galaxy far, far away.

Amidst the franchise’s recent struggles, Andor established itself as one of the most unique and fresh entries in the Star Wars universe, arguably since the original trilogy. However, the series emerging as one of the best entries wouldn’t surprise creator Lucas as it is something the acclaimed filmmaker himself foretold decades ago. Here is how Andor fulfills a prophecy by George Lucas.

Avengers: Endgame sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 550 reviews. However, with many critics turning on superhero movies in recent years, there's been an increase in "superhero fatigue" talk and a general, often overly harsh, criticism of the genre.
However, one person who won't put up with the 2019 movie being torn down in any way is singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.
In a new video posted on The Kelly Clarkson Show's YouTube channel, the American Idol winner responds to negative Letterboxd reviews. In the case of Avengers: Endgame, she was having none of it.
"Who gave this a bad review?" Clarkson wondered before mocking critics: "'Ugh, it’s just these big epic Marvel things. These big epic superhero movies.' Fans love them. Not everything has to be Shawshank Redemption. Whatever."
The review also referenced Martin Scorsese's scathing assessment of comic book adaptations to which Clarkson said,...

In 1997, Platinum Studios co-founder and chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg came up with a unique genre-mash concept. What if classic Western tropes were infused with a gritty alien invasion storyline?
This idea birthed the graphic novel "Cowboys & Aliens," where gunslingers Zeke Jackson and Verity Jones witness the crash-landing of an alien spaceship during a caravan ambush. The aliens that disembark the ship are not the friendly, benevolent type -- this is a race bent on invading and conquering Earth by destroying everything they set their sights on. Now, it is up to the cowboys to work together with the local natives to defeat the aliens at all costs, even if it means adapting to their superior, futuristic weapons to nudge the odds in their favor.
Although the one-sheet for Rosenberg's graphic novel was always geared toward a big-budget film adaptation, it wasn't until 2011 that the Jon Favreau-helmed "Cowboys & Aliens" was released,...

Of course — spoiler alert — the character’s heroic death in Avengers: Endgame would seem to rule out Downey’s and his character’s involvement in future MCU efforts, but you never know. (Stranger things have happened in the MCU.) Fans’ hopes have only been piqued by a new interview Downey gave to Variety with Jodie Foster, in which he said he’s “surprisingly open” to reprising his role if given the opportunity.

The world changed forever when Samuel L. Jackson showed up in the post-credits scene of Iron Man as Nick Fury talking to Robert Downey Jr. about the ‘Avengers Initiative’. The scene gave birth to the MCU and the culture of post-credits scenes that did not just feature in the Marvel films but also carried over to every other shared cinematic universe.
While the legendary scene teased The Avengers, which drove fans crazy, one deleted take of the scene showed Jackson referring to Spider-Man and the X-Men. While both properties were owned by Sony and Fox at the time, the dialogue proved that producer and Marvel CEO Kevin Feige always wanted to include the two in the MCU.

It's practically impossible to talk about Mimi Leder's 1998 comet-based disaster film "Deep Impact" without also cursorily mentioning Michael Bay's 1998 comet-based disaster film "Armageddon." Leder's film was released on May 8, and was presented as a stern and realistic view of what might happen to the Earth if a massive, Mount Everest-sized comet struck. Bay's film was released on July 1, and presented a much more cartoony, ultra-macho version of the same story, this time with a comet the size of Texas. The former was about somber politicians planning for the worst, the latter was about muscular, blue-collar miners flying into space. Curiously, both films were hits; "Deep Impact" made $350 million on a budget of $80 million, and "Armageddon" made over $550 million on a budget of $140 million.
Of the two, "Deep Impact" is the "classy" choice, featuring a wide ensemble of recognizable actors, each doing their best to prepare for -- and...

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood working today. His cinematic glory was further complemented as the actor came fresh out of the 2024 Academy Awards claiming his first Oscars after being nominated three times. Well, for fellow Marvel aficionados and movie buffs, let’s delve into a little-known snippet of Iron Man lore—the curious case of Robert Downey Jr. mimicking Tom Cruise in a scrapped romantic scene from Iron Man 2 that we, the fans, will never forgive Marvel for omitting.
Yes, there was a sequence loaded with Tony Stark’s (Downey Jr.) trademark sarcasm, the ever-tenacious Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), & a heartfelt homage to an iconic moment from Cruise’s Jerry Maguire that didn’t see the light of the final cut. Did you know this deleted opener for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 could’ve shown an uncharacteristically vulnerable side of Tony Stark?

Robert Downey Jr.’s biggest comeback was also the savior of Marvel Studios. The actor made his MCU debut with Iron Man and it was a hammer on the nail gaining widespread attention from the global audience. Downey’s Iron Man gave the studio an absolute boost propelling it to the road of success.

While the studio lacked faith in the movie and the actor, director Jon Favreau could somehow convince the producer to move forward with the narrative with Downey. Following the success of the movie, there was room for more sequels and Downey’s Iron Man movies came to be one of the most remarkable franchises in the MCU.

When Marvel launched its universe with Iron Man, the industry was divided into two eras defined as pre-mcu and post-mcu. Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau changed Hollywood for good and never batted an eye while doing so. It was only fair that the audience got on board with the program and rode the Marvel wave until it crashed into a storm of its own making, drowning everyone and everything in its path.

As we reflect on and put together the story of Robert Downey Jr.’s life, we have to agree that his portrayal of Tony Stark actually saved his career. Since the actor went from being a drug addict to one of the biggest stars on the planet, there has not been a better example of a comeback in recent memory.
For eleven years, he played the MCU’s Iron Man, which gave him all the things an actor could hope for: a stable career, exposure to a new audience, and, most of course, plenty of money. However, that does not tell the whole story. It was Downey Jr.’s role in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang that served as his “calling card to Iron Man”.

Kick-started in 2008 with prime Robert Downey Jr. taking over as Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come a long way from its roots. What started as a series of interconnected movies soon expanded into one of the entertainment industry’s largest ever following the release of 2012’s The Avengers.
The ultimate crossover laced with an intricate storyline gave fans a complete look at arguably the best comic book live-action universe, complete with actors that became synonymous with their roles.

The success of such a crossover largely came off the expertise and brainwork of Kevin Feige, John Favreau, and other early leads who had worked in the early age of superhero movies, that started taking shape in the late ‘90s. However, what if that age had happened a bit closer?

One could say that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man (2008) is the reason why the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still up and running. The film acted like the stepping stone for the superhero universe and if it failed, who knows where the MCU would be right now? Thankfully, Robert Downey Jr’s charm along with Tony Stark’s egoistic yet somehow loveable personality together made Iron Man a huge success.

The gender pay gap in Hollywood is one of the most surprising yet unfortunate realities in Hollywood. Over the years, many actors and actresses like Jennifer Lawrence, Ronda Rousey, and many more are some big names that have spoken out about the gap in their pay in accordance with their male co-stars. Diane Keaton was also one of the big names, that talked about the issue when she was working with Jack Nicholson in their 2003 rom-com film.

There are many things that every person goes through in life, both pleasant and very unpleasant. One of the things you'd rather leave to the enemy is going through a painful breakup.
It may sound silly to some people, but it is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a person. Your whole life comes crashing down and you find yourself completely lost.
In moments like this, the only thing you can do is focus on yourself, but that's just too hard to do when you're freshly heartbroken. So maybe instead you should watch a bunch of movies to help you forget that your ex ever existed?
Here's a list of movies that solve the problem perfectly, despite being so different.
1. The Thing (1982)

When George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion, it marked a major turning point in the movie industry. But, as Lucas himself says, some game-changing transitions within the business were already in full swing.
In an interview with Brut (via Screen Rant), George Lucas said that selling Lucasfilm all came down to the rise of streaming. “Streaming is really powerful, and it’s great, it’s really upped the movie business because the theatrical movie business… we could see the problems, and it was not good. So everybody was looking to save it, but nobody knew streaming would. And that’s when Netflix took off, and at that point, I said, ‘I don’t know what this is gonna be, there’s gonna be a giant transition in the business, I don’t know that much about it,’ and I sold the company, and I retired.

Patton Oswalt saw the future. Or, at least his Parks and Recreation character did.
Speaking during a visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, Oswalt recalled a 2013 episode where he played an angry Pawnee resident who engages in a filibuster. The rambling speech morphs into a pitch of his idea for a Marvel and Star Wars crossover film.
“So the scene was supposed to be [that] I announce I’m gonna do this filibuster and then they cut to Amy’s character, Leslie, just going ‘Oh dear God,’ and that would be the joke,” Oswalt recounted. “And then the directors and the writers said, ‘Let’s not yell cut and just see how long he’ll talk.’”
Oswalt did his best to keep it going.
“[Marvel] had not done Guardians of the Galaxy. When I say Time Gem [one of the Infinity Stones], they cut to Chris Pratt. This was way before he did Guardians,” Oswalt explained.

There’s a moment near the end of Latvian animation director Gints Zilbalodis’ “Flow” that powerfully tugs at the heartstrings. It’s when the film’s central character, a black cat who you’ve come to have a profound emotional connection with, rediscovers a lost ball that he and his animal friends (especially a lemur) had been playing with earlier in the movie. He thought he’d never see it again. And suddenly he does.
Sometimes, lost things can be found again.
If you thought that emotion elicited without cloying manipulation was something lost in animation, it is found again in “Flow” as well. A movie brimming with sentiment but not sentimentality, this is one of the most moving animated films in recent memory, and, beyond that, groundbreaking too. The anthropomorphic animal characters of 21st century U.S. animated features have nothing on the animal stars of “Flow,” who never...

With the release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” on May 10, this year’s Best Visual Effects Oscar race just got a lot more interesting. That’s because we’re almost guaranteed to get three, possibly even four, movies in the race that are follow-ups to previous Visual Effects nominees. “Apes” is likely to be the fourth movie in its franchise nominated for the innovative performance capture used to help create the film’s photo-realistic apes. Three previous films, starring Andy Serkis, were nominated for Oscars in the category in 2011, 2014, and 2017, but none of them won.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe lost its biggest hero when Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man fell in Avengers: Endgame, but not after saving the day/Earth 616. Ever since then, the MCU has struggled to create the kind of projects that made it such a global success in the first place.
While most fans have asked for Kevin Feige and company to focus on originality and come up with new narratives that delve into the wealth of characters the Comics have on offer, some have also pressed for a Robert Downey Jr. return. Whether that is a potential option especially considering the actor’s own wishes, Feige had previously claimed they would ‘never want to mafically undo’ Stark’s heroic death.

As part of Sony's celebration of Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary, every live-action Spider-Man movie is swinging back into theaters.
Dropping every Monday as part of the studio's "Spider-Mondays," we've seen over the past 5 weeks that there's a real appetite among moviegoers to see the wall-crawler back on the big screen.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Homecoming webbed up the lowest box office haul to date with a disappointing $285,000 opening day. With 466 theaters in the U.S. screening the movie, that works out to a far from amazing $612 per theater average.
Some will likely jump on this news to tear into the MCU, forgetting that Marvel Studios actually saved Spidey back in 2017 (following his memorable debut the year prior in Captain America: Civil War).
Understandably, there's less interest in seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man back on the big screen because he's really not been gone that long. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and...

Have you ever wondered how a single scene could redefine the trajectory of a character we’ve come to love? Numerous deleted scenes starring Iron Man throughout the character’s MCU history could’ve altered the direction of the franchise. Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., is certainly one of the most significant heroes in the MCU, having been the character whose tale once served as the catalyst for the film series’ narrative.

That being said, there were, nonetheless, numerous scenes in Jon Favreau’s film, Iron Man, that were never incorporated into the franchise’s canon. One such scene included when Tony found himself in a precarious situation during his battle on the Freeway with Obadiah Stane, dressed as Iron Monger.
During this moment, Terrence Howard’s character, Rhodey, came to rescue Iron Man from a brutal beatdown at the hands of Stane.

When Peter Billingsley's comedy "Couples Retreat" was released in 2009, some critics argued that the title should serve as a warning. It only garnered a 10% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian saying that former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Pol Pot, could have written a warmer, funnier film.
The film follows four middle-aged couples on a retreat to a tropical resort called Eden where they mean to rekindle their respective flagging relationships. The couples are played by Vince Vaughn and Malin Åkerman, Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, and Faizon Love and Kali Hawk. The cast was stacked, and the story interspersed run-of-the-mill midlife crises with limp attempts at slapstick. The film cost $60 million to make and netted $171 million worldwide, so it wasn't a bomb, but it also was dismissed and forgotten by the culture at large.
