La Fille qu’on appelle
Who knew that a tale about a ski instructor and favored skier narrative that teeters into power-struggle and examines sexual exploitation would be such a stellar debut. Unfortunately, Charlène Favier didn’t get to have an in-person premiere but nonetheless 2020’s Slalom (Cannes Label) played especially well internationally. The French filmmaker moved into her sophomore feature this past July in Marseille on a project based on Tanguy Viel’s novel of the same name. Alba Gaïa Bellugi (Fabrice Du Welz’s Inexorable) toplines La Fille qu’on appelle, and Jean-Pierre Martins, Pascal Gregory and Anne Suarez co-star.

We now have even more proof that holiday revelers are not thinking about horror as there are only three notable titles this week. What do you think about Devil being released so close to this religious holiday?
Zombie fans among us should appreciate The Horde; however, if The Foywonder's recent tweet is any indication, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus may not be a shiny present from Santa after all.
For the gamers out there, your early Xmas present just arrived in the form of a downloadable Dead Space 2 (watch trailer) demo arriving today on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Devil
Directed by The Dowdle Brothers (Drew Dowdle, John Erick Dowdle)

Trapped in an elevator high above Philadelphia, five people discover that the Devil (Blu-ray DVD review) is among them – and no one can escape their fate. This chilling, supernatural thriller from M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense,...

Two notable horror films will release on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. The titles include M. Night Shyamalan's Devil and Yannick Dahan's La Horde, or The Horde. Devil has been given some attention in a review on 28Dla; the review can be found here: Devil Movie Review. 28Dla writer, Ed Sum described the film as "what Shyamalan has created has the scope of being something larger than life." So, there is definitely some intrigue in the film. As well, the French film La Horde has made some waves by putting some thrills and action back into the coming zombie apocalypse. An international trailer for this film has previously been posted here: La Horde International Trailer.
Both of these titles will be made available December 21st and these releases will each host a whole slew of extras. The special features and more details on these films can be found inside.

Halloween is becoming one of my favourite times of the year as I get to put myself through some extreme movie watching experiences as well as seeing some of the best/worst horror films and characters ever created.
Last Halloween I watched all the films featuring the horror legends of Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, I recorded their kill counts as well as doing a face off competition to decide who was the ultimate movie villain of the three legends with Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th Movies being the overall winner. You can see my blood-soaked venture here.
This year I went for a test of endurance, my plan was to watch as many Zombie movies consecutively until sleep deprivation turned me into something closely resembling a Zombie. I had 20 films lined up for the experiment and managed to get through 10 films over approximately 19 hours from...

Winter's Bone (15)
(Debra Granik, 2010, Us) Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Kevin Breznahan. 100 mins
What No Country For Old Men did for west Texas, this striking landscape thriller does for Missouri's Ozark mountains. This is no country for poor women: an insular rural community clouded by drugs and patriarchy where they do things their way. So when Ree learns her father's skipped bail, and the family home was his security, she must ask difficult questions in dangerous places – chiefly among her extended outlaw family. Tough suspense, documentary-like observation and character drama are perfectly balanced.
I'm Still Here (15)
(Casey Affleck, 2010, Us) Joaquin Phoenix, Sean Combs, Anthony Langdon. 107 mins
What was Joaquin thinking? This film won't clear that up, but it at least shows you what he was doing: taking drugs, falling out with friends and the movie biz, rapping badly and descending into mumbling incoherence – apparently.
The Other Guys (12A)
(Adam McKay, 2010, Us) Will Ferrell,...

It's an unwritten rule in zombie film making that the beginning of the film is just a day in the life. Films which follow this pattern begin with people going about their various petty affairs, going to work, getting groceries, scratching themselves, and all the other common activities that make up humdrum existence. It's refreshing, then, that a film has finally been made which captures a scenario wherein the zombie apocalypse crashes down upon a completely unrelated drama.

- Internationally renowned regular art-house actresses Diane Kruger (upcoming Inglourious Basterds) and Ludivine Sagnier (A Girl Cut in Two) are being paired together to portray sisters with very different life expectations and experiences in Pieds Nus sur les Limaces (“Bare Feet on Slugs”). Fabienne Berthaud's sophomore feature begins lensing on August 17 until end of September. According to Cineuropa, Brigitte Catillon and Jean-Pierre Martins also fill out the cast and the pic will be produced by Le Bureau's Bertrand Faivre. We recently witnessed how Euro fair that specifically address this family dynamic could be all encompassing and yet simple, strength of sister-dramas with I've Love You So Long, but this reminds me of one of the characters that as featured in Duane Hopkins' Better Things – where the notion of protecting one's self from the outside world is explored. Ever since Alex Aja's High Tension broke onto the scene back in 2003, it seems that every year there is that one French horror film that is almost guaranteed to blow us out of the water. With word that Humains (Humans) and Mutants are quite the disappointment, there's a lot riding on The Horde, the zombie film being produced by Xavier Gens (Frontier(s)). Today we got our hands on the first teaser trailer that looks quite promising. What do you think? Directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, film follows an end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. Eriq Ebouaney, Jean-Pierre Martins, Aurélien Recoing, Claude Perron, Alain Figlarz all star.

Production is set to begin on Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher's The Horde, a French film that follows an end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. We've been keeping a very close eye on this film as it's being executive produced by Xavier Gens (Frontier(s), Hitman), besides sounding very awesome. This morning I was provided with a storyboard from the film that stars Eriq Ebouaney, Jean-Pierre Martins, Aurélien Recoing, Claude Perron and Alain Fig. North of Paris. In order to avenge the murder of one of their own by a group of ruthless gangsters, corrupt cops four go on a rampage in a condemned building serving as the mobster's hideout. Now trapped, the officers are about to be executed when the unimaginable occurs: hordes of bloodthirsty, cannibalistic creatures invade the building, savagely attacking everyone. Unexpected alliances are made when their lives are threatened by the unthinkable.
