In December 2023, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Def Leppard and Journey announced they would be joining forces for a colossal co-headlining stadium tour in the summer of 2024. The 23-city “Journey x Def Leppard Tour” kicks off on July 6, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri and wraps up on September 8 in Denver, Colorado.
Along the way, the superstar lineup will perform at major stadiums in cities like Chicago, Nashville, Boston, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, among others.
The two iconic 80s bands, who previously toured together in 2018, bring along fellow classic rock legends Cheap Trick, Heart and the Steve Miller Band for select dates.
Def Leppard, known for hits like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Love Bites,” are fresh off a successful 2023 tour with fellow heavy metal icons Mötley Crüe. This time, they’ll take the stage alongside Journey, the powerhouse band behind the classic anthems “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Faithfully.

Mötley Crüe played a “secret” club show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Monday night (May 6th). The band had teased the concert on social media under the moniker “1981” (the year they formed), and were met with a packed house for the gig.
The 12-song set at the 600-capacity venue was mostly filled with the Crüe’s best-known tunes like “Looks That Kill,” “Shout at the Devil,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and the closing number, “Kickstart My Heart.” The band also played its new single, “Dogs of War” (their first song featuring new guitarist John 5), as well as a covers medley featuring tunes by The Beatles, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Beastie Boys, and more.

Mötley Crüe have unveiled the new single “Dogs of War” along with a visually stunning music video. The track marks the legendary rock band’s first new music in five years, and first song with new guitarist John 5.
“Dogs of War” features John 5 prominently, as it contains some heavy riffage and a tantalizing guitar solo. Lyrically, the song is one of defiance, with lines like, “Don’t let the dogs of war/ Come knocking at your door/ As we’re crawling ‘cross the floor/ They’ll make your skin crawl/ They’ll make the stars fall/ Do they matter after all.”

Mötley Crüe have inked a new deal with Big Machine Records ahead of their upcoming single, “Dogs of War,” arriving this Friday (April 26th). The song marks the band’s first new music since 2019.
The deal distinguishes a new chapter for the Crüe, who have undergone major changes over the past couple years with the exit of founding axeman Mick Mars and the addition of journeyman guitarist John 5.
“Mötley Crüe on Big Machine! Growing up in Southern California, I was in Hollywood when these new sheriffs showed up and took over the city,” commented Big Machine Chairman and CEO Scott Borchetta via a press release. “It was loud. It was powerful. It was game changing. Vince, Nikki, and Tommy, along with new guitarist John 5, have reignited the flame with ferocious new Crüe music. Fans will unite… Shout!”

Cole Parsons, an 11-year-old guitarist from West Virginia, has become a viral sensation after a video of him playing in front of his 5th grade classmates was posted on social media.
Donning an Alice in Chains Dirt T-shirt, Parsons calmly ran through an original instrumental composition, stunning those in the room and millions who viewed the video online, shared by his mother on Instagram.
Beginning with a melodic arpeggiated intro — something that would be at home on an ’80s Metallica album — Parsons proceeds through an inspired and tonally impressive chord progression that bares some resemblance to the album on his shirt.
While Parsons has proven himself to be a shredder in other videos, playing songs by Van Halen, System of a Down, and Mötley Crüe, it’s interesting to note that this viral clip showcases a rather subdued, yet accomplished piece. A burgeoning songwriter in the making.

Mick Mars scored a victory in his ongoing legal battle with Mötley Crüe Tuesday when a Los Angeles judge agreed that the rock veterans had unjustly “refused” to cough up the dirt on its wide-ranging business dealings as it simultaneously sought to oust its founding guitarist early last year.
In a new court ruling obtained by Rolling Stone, the judge said the band’s stonewalling left Mars with no choice but to sue for the corporate documents last April. The Los Angeles judge noted that after the filing, the band...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox celebrated New Year’s Eve with a special “Sunday Lunch” performance of the Kiss song “Lick It Up.”
Less than a month after Kiss played their final show ever, the married couple paid tribute to the legendary rock band by putting their own spin on the classic tune.

This past fall, Toyah and Robert embarked on their first-ever “Sunday Lunch” tour, hitting multiple cities in the UK. While they no longer post new videos every week, 2023 saw the couple offering frisky renditions of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love,...

Megaplatinum rock stalwarts Def Leppard and Journey are gearing up to hit the road for a North American summer stadium tour starting July 6 in St. Louis. The 23-show jaunt runs through September 8 in Denver and will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller and his band on the bulk of the dates, with Cheap Trick or Heart on the others.
The trek will hit Citi Field in metro New York on August 7 and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on August 25, both featuring Miller. See the full itinerary below.
The two headliners have toured together over the decades, but this is their first co-starring stadium affair. Def Leppard hit the huge U.S. and Canadian venues in 2022 for a Covid-delayed tour with Mötley Crüe in 2022.
San Francisco-based Journey has moved more than 49 million albums in the U.S. alone, paced by their 15 million-selling 1988 Greatest Hits.

While it’s one of the most innovative songs of the 1960s, Ringo Starr declined to play The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” for a shockingly long amount of time. He discussed performing the track live with Paul McCartney in the 2010s. The song “Helter Skelter” has a disturbing history. John Lennon had a dismissive attitude toward that history.

Ringo played “Helter Skelter” with Paul McCartney in July 2019. During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Ringo was asked if he played the song since she came out in 1968. “No, I did listen to it once before [the performance], but why would I play it?” he said.

Despite his contentious split from his longtime band Mötley Crüe, guitarist Mick Mars has nothing but kind words to say about the man who replaced him.
In a new interview with Guitar World, Mars went as far as to say that the Crüe made a “very wise choice” in selecting longtime Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 for the job. The latter has been a seamless fit in the group after being announced as Mars’ replacement shortly after Mars declared he was retiring from touring with the band.
“Well, I’ve never disliked John, I’ve always liked him and still do,” said Mars. “He’s been a really good friend of mine for a long time. So I think they’ve made a very, very wise choice with John.”
Mars didn’t delve into his drama with Mötley Crüe, which, has included some nasty exchanges between the band’s camp and the guitarist.

Mick Mars, the founding and former guitarist of Mötley Crüe, has announced his debut solo album, The Other Side of Mars, arriving February 23rd. The video for “Loyal to the Lie,” the lead single from the LP, can be streamed now.
“When it comes to my playing, there’s the Mötley side and the Mars side,” the guitarist said of his upcoming album, and “Loyal to the Lie” showcases the latter.
Crüe fans might be taken aback by the song’s more alt-metal/industrial slant, with singer Jacob Bunton providing impassioned vocals over Mars’ axework — which sounds as sharp and technically proficient as ever. While the Mötley Crüe camp raised questions about Mars’ physical ability to play amid the nasty exchanges that followed Mars’ retirement from touring with the band, this song testifies to the fact that he’s still got it.

Some movies are so iconic it’s hard to imagine that they were originally going to be radically different. Elvis Presley‘s movie Jailhouse Rock once had a completely different title. One of Elvis’ regular songwriters revealed why the film’s initial name was abandoned. In addition, he discussed what he thought about Jailhouse Rock.
Elvis Presley’s movie ‘Jailhouse Rock’ could have been called ‘Ghost of a Chance’
Mike Stoller co-wrote several Elvis tunes, including “Hound Dog,” “Bossa Nova Baby,” “Little Egypt,” and “Jailhouse Rock.” During a 2022 interview with Variety, Stoller revealed the first title of the movie Jailhouse Rock was abandoned in favor of the title of his song.
“I think [the original title] was Ghost of a Chance,” he said. “That changed, I think, as soon as they heard the initial recording. Which is not the one in the film, because the one in the film was blown out and had a bigger orchestra.

After a few weeks of revisiting past performances, Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are back with a new “Sunday Lunch” cover song. The married couple take on The Hives’ “Hate to Say I Told You So” in the latest edition of their popular YouTube series.
While Robert and Toyah usually cover older material, “Hate to Say I Told You So” is becoming a classic itself, having been released more than 20 years ago. It remains the signature song for The Hives, the Swedish garage rockers who’ve now been around for 30 years as a band.
For this cover, both Robert and Toyah are dressed as bees (get it: hives!), with the King Crimson guitarist being pestered by his singer wife throughout the performance. A sign on their kitchen cabinets reads, “Fripp is ma honey bee.”

Dolly Parton is in her rock ‘n’ roll era, and she’s ready to become the champion of the genre. To that end, she shared her cover of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” on Friday as the latest single from her forthcoming, aptly-named album, Rockstar.
With a dynamic, guitar-driven arrangement reminiscent of Queen’s original version from 1977, Parton’s take on the song is stadium-ready. At 77 years old, she still belts with goosebump-inducing power, soaring through the anthemic melody. Add in the tinge of twangy wisdom she brings to lines about how fame and fortune have been “no bed of roses,” and the tune is elevated to a new level of insight.
Parton also closes the song with a brief interpolation of “We Will Rock You” — complete with the legendary beat, crowd chanting, and some vocal ad-libs from Parton that unmistakably confirm the fact that she will, indeed, rock you.

Olivia Rodrigo may be one of the modern princesses of pop, but the 20-year-old singer has been getting a taste of the ’80s as of late by attending Depeche Mode and The Cure concerts with her dad, as she shared in a new interview with Vogue.
While at A-1 Record Shop in the East Village with writer Jia Tolentino, Rodrigo ruminated over an album by The Cure she found during her crate dig. “I’m going to see them in two weeks with my dad,” she said at the time. “He’s introducing me to all the bands he went to see when he was my age,” adding that Depeche Mode was on the list of legacy acts they’ve recently seen on stage.
Elsewhere in the profile, Rodrigo expanded upon how her parents played a big part in rooting her musical influences. They weren’t just fans of ’80s gothy new wave,...

As the legal feud between Mötley Crüe and Mick Mars continues, the guitarist has opened up about the full extent of the disconnect between himself and his former bandmates.
Mars has been outspoken regarding his unceremonious exit from the band, blaming Nikki Sixx and company for forcing him out and cutting his profit share in the process. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mars said that his bandmates didn’t so much as speak to him throughout 2022 — including the entirety of the band’s stadium tour with Def Leppard — leading up to his retirement from touring back in October.
“Nobody spoke to me in 2022,” Mars said. “A lot of the time felt like I was just playing by myself. You know how you can be in a crowd of people and still feel alone? That’s how I felt that whole tour. I felt used, sad, and inferior. When we...

Mötley Crüe played a “surprise” intimate club show Friday night (June 30th) at The Underworld in London in advance of their concert at Wembley Stadium the next evening.
The band performed to around 450 attendees under the pseudonym Dogs of War — the title of a new Crüe song that has yet to be released — and ran through a setlist stacked with hits, including “Shout at the Devil,” “Too Fast for Love,” “Live Wire,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Dr. Feelgood,” and “Kickstart My Heart” (which closed the set).
Mötley Crüe typically perform a medley of covers during their sets, and for The Underworld performance, they fused Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll, Part 2” with Brownsville Station’s “Smokin’ in the Boys Room,” The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” Sex Pistols’ “Anarchy in the U.K.,” and the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
They followed the medley up with a full rendition of Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!

In early May, we travelled to Nashville to spend a couple of days with Mick Mars and hear about his bitter departure from Mötley Crüe. Mars stepped away from the touring unit in late 2022 after 41 years in the group he co-founded. He’d been suffering from the debilitating bone disease ankylosing spondylitis for decades, and life on the road simply became too painful to endure. In his telling, they used this as an excuse to violate legal agreements and deny him his share of band proceeds. The matter is currently...

After taking a month off from their “Sunday Lunch” performances, Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are back with a rendition of the Joan Jett classic “Bad Reputation.”
The King Crimson guitarist and his vocalist wife play off the song’s theme, with Robert taking on the bad-guy role and Toyah pasting sticky notes with the word “Bad” all over his forehead. Along with her usual revealing outfit, Toyah is sporting a new hairdo that harkens back to her days as a new wave singer in the late ’70s and early ’80s.
The couple had been posting archival videos over the past few weeks, with the previous new “Sunday Lunch” performance being a cover of J. Geils Band’s “Centerfold” in late March.
Other recent “Sunday Lunch” performances include covers of Mötley Crüe’s “Shout at the Devil,” Kiss’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You,” and The Offspring’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright.

The ’80s and ’90s were a tumultuous time for rock music, especially for Mötley Crüe. Lead singer Vince Neil infamously left the band in 1992. He says that when he was fired, he was in “complete shock.” But one Mötley Crüe member recalls Neil’s departure differently.

Neil joined Mötley Crüe in 1981 after the band saw him perform with the group Rock Candy. Drummer Tommy Lee had known Neil from high school and encouraged his bandmates to check Neil out, sure the singer’s image would match Mötley Crüe.
The group released its debut album, Too Fast for Love, in 1981, but it wasn’t an overnight success. The album was self-produced and sold only 20,000 copies. The bandmates...

The unfortunate dispute between Mötley Crüe and their former guitarist Mick Mars has gotten pretty ugly, with the band’s manager now accusing Mars’ representatives of “elder abuse.”
As previously reported, Mars recently sued Mötley Crüe, claiming his financial cut of the band’s profits was severely reduced and that he was let go from the band despite his desire to remain a member upon retiring from touring. He also snuck in a jab about bassist Nikki Sixx playing to pre-recorded tracks during the Crüe’s live shows.
Mötley Crüe then hit back, with one of their lawyers stating, “Retiring from touring is retiring from the band.” A statement further claimed that Mars’ playing had diminished significantly and that he was being manipulated by his representative into taking legal action against his longtime band. To which Mars responded, “I carried those bastards for years.”

The situation between Mötley Crüe and guitarist Mick Mars has turned litigious, with Mars suing his bandmates over his claims that he’s being forced out of the band.
It all started in October 2022 when Mars issued a statement announcing he was retiring from touring with the band, due to his ongoing struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a degenerative disease that affects the spine.
According to legal documents obtained by Variety, Mars is accusing the other members of the band — singer Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee — of “gaslighting” him in an attempt to kick him out of the band.

Mars alleges that the band is demanding that he sign a severance agreement that would divest him of all Mötley Crüe’s future earnings, in return for a five-per-cent stake in the group’s 2023 tour, on which he’s not performing.

Mick Mars is turning up the heat in his legal fight with Mötley Crüe, saying in a new interview that he “carried those bastards for years.”
“Those guys have been hammering on me since ’87, trying to replace me,” Mars told Variety. They haven’t been able to do that, because I’m the guitar player. I helped form this band. It’s my name I came up with [the Mötley Crüe moniker], my ideas, my money that I had from a backer to start this band. It wouldn’t have gone anywhere.”
This week, Mars filed a lawsuit against Mötley Crüe over a dispute his share of profits. Mars specifically alleges that he was “unilaterally” removed from the band after announcing his retirement from touring due to ongoing struggles with an arthritic disease called ankylosing spondylitis. As a result, his profit share was cut from 25 percent to a five percent.

Mötley Crüe have responded to a lawsuit filed by former guitarist, Mick Mars. Update: Mars has since hit back at the band, saying in a new interview that he “carried those bastards for years.”
Through their attorneys, the band said “resigned from the band” when he retired from touring. They also dismissed Mars’ argument that he is owed money, while arguing that he suffered from performance issues that impacted the rest of the band on their most recent tour.
“Retiring from touring is resigning from the band,” said Sasha Frid, Mötley Crüe’s litigation attorney (via Variety). “The band’s primary function is to tour and perform concerts… If a shareholder resigns, he cannot receive any compensation from touring — which is what Mick is trying to get. It’s clear-cut that Mick is not entitled to any more money.”

Mötley Crüe has called guitarist Mick Mars’ lawsuit against the band “unfortunate.” In a statement to Rolling Stone, the band responded to the suit, which was made public yesterday, and rebutted claims that they ousted him from the group and cut him out of profits.

Guitarist Mick Mars is suing Mötley Crüe over his departure from the band and a dramatic decrease in profit share.
Last year, Mars announced that he was retiring from touring with Mötley Crüe, citing his ongoing struggles with an arthritic disease called ankylosing spondylitis. A statement from his rep specified, “Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigors of the road.”
However, in their own follow-up statement, Mötley Crüe implied that Mars was done for good, leading some — including one-time Crüe singer John Corabi — to believe that he was “shown the door.”
It turns out Corabi may have been on to something, as Mars has now filed a lawsuit against his longtime band. In legal documents obtained by TMZ, Mars claims that he still intended to play with Mötley Crüe in some capacity, whether it be select live dates or in the studio,...

Singer Toyah Willcox and King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp tackle the J. Geils Band hit “Centerfold” for their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance, making us wonder how it took the married couple this long to cover the ’80s classic.
After taking a handful of weeks off (and posting some best-of clips and bloopers in the meantime), the frisky pair are back in a big way with “Centerfold.” Toyah, in an unbuttoned white shirt with nothing underneath, holds up a copy of last year’s Prog magazine with Fripp on the cover, as they reverse the roles of the original tune.
She even changes the lyrics to, “Years go by, I’m lookin’ through a Proggy magazine / And there’s my homeroom angel on the pages in-between.”
But wait, there’s more! In bonus footage, we see Fripp in a sheer dress posing for a magazine centerfold on top of a King Crimson towel,...

When Mötley Crüe announced their “Final Tour” in 2014, they knew they’d have to make a huge effort to convince people it wasn’t just an elaborate con, so they signed a “cessation of touring activity contract” at a press conference. They never actually shared the document with the public, but they claimed it meant they could never tour again. The enforcement mechanism was always a little vague since there’s no rock & roll police to stop them from just touring again anyway, but it seemed to work since it...

When it comes to horror and sci-fi movies from 1986, there are several milestone titles that always come to mind first: Aliens, The Fly, Blue Velvet, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Manhunter, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, or even Psycho III, just to name a few. But like any great year of cinema, there are always a few underrated gems that get overshadowed along the way and should receive a little extra love. Here are six films from 1986 that I think deserve to be on every genre fan’s radar:
F/X: A movie about a special effects artist who gets mixed up in a government conspiracy, at a time when practical effects were in their heyday? Yes, please. F/X isn’t a film I hear a ton of folks talk about, but it has been on cable a lot lately, which means I’ve spent a few nights revisiting it,...

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash we have very little reason to be interested in them. – Pauline Kael.
The above quote from the late, legendary American film critic Kael was most certainly not referring to Lamberto Bava’s Demons (1985), but a lot of films in our beloved genre bow to this description. Demons is great trash – it wants nothing more to assault your senses with a barrage of images and sound for 88 minutes before you even know what hit you, and does so while breathing that rarified Italian air.
But I’m sure she was referring to a film like Demons – one made with a ton of style, by a filmmaker impassioned with his chosen topic, as ridiculous as that plays on the screen. And make no mistake, Demons is ridiculous; as a matter of fact, it starts there before rapidly ascending to the sublime.

English language film has long been a place for some of the greatest horror film directors of all time. All the way back to Alfred Hitchcock, we have seen the genre grow and develop sub-genres, thanks to the public’s ongoing thirst for fear and the possibility of danger around every turn. But, for every Saw or Hostel or terrible remake of classic English-language horror films, there are inventive, terrifying films made somewhere else that inspire and even outdo many of our best Western world horror films. This list will count down the fifty definitive horror films with a main language that isn’t English; some may have some English-language parts in them, but they are, for the most part, foreign. Enlighten yourself. Broaden your horizons. People can get murdered and tortured in every language.

Arrow Films delves once again into the treasure trove of cult genre favourites from the video shop era, bringing their restoration process to the Dario Argento-produced 1985 horror Demons and its sequel from the following year, Demons 2.
On a subway train, a student named Cheryl is offered free cinema tickets by a mysterious masked stranger. Instead of discarding them as any sane person would, she decides instead to take her friend along to the screening. The film in question is a teens-in-peril horror where one of the characters manages to scratch his face on a demonic-looking mask, echoing what happens earlier to a patron playing with that very prop in the cinema’s lobby.
The scratch appears to unleash some kind of infection, turning the audience member into green, gunk-spewing creatures. Before long, there’s carnage on and off screen as the cinema turns into a battleground between the living and undead.

The zombie horror classic Demons and its follow-up Demons 2 are to be resurrected in all their gruesome glory as limited edition deluxe releases.
Both films were directed by Lamberto Bava and co-written with Italian horror maestro Dario Argento, whose latest work Dracula 3D stars Thomas Kretschmann (Valkyrie, Wanted, Resident Evil: Apocalypse) as the legendary vampire and Rutger Hauer as Van Helsing.
Arrow Films announced that Blu-ray, DVD and Steelbook editions of the two Demons films will hit stores in the UK on April 30 alongside Demons 3 - an exclusive, specially-commissioned comic book by Stefan Hutchinson that finally completes the intended trilogy.
Restored from the original camera negatives by Cineteca di Bologna, each release will be packaged with both the original Anglo/Italian artwork and newly-commissioned artwork by Jeff Zornow, in a reversible, interchangeable design.
Also included will be a double-sided fold-out poster, a collector's booklet written by Calum Waddell, and...

On September 24, Nirvana's epochal Nevermind turns 20 ... a milestone that's not only given us pause (since it's downright unfathomable to anyone who came of age during that era) but has caused us to reflect on what, in retrospect, was a pretty staggeringly great year for rock music in general.
Because, while Nevermind gets the majority of the headlines, there were no shortage of other iconic albums released that year, too ... a fact we illustrated last week, when we shone the spotlight on some of '91's greatest; everything from alt-rock tent poles like the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Pearl Jam's Ten to big-budget blockbusters like Metallica's Black album and Guns N' Roses' Use Your Illusion series and overlooked indie gems like Fugazi's Steady Diet of Nothing and Slint's Spiderland.
In a lot of ways, it seems like 1991 was the last year rock truly rocked.
