The “Old Guard” sequel starring Charlize Theron doesn’t even have an official release date, but a third installment may already be brewing. “There’s an ending to No. 2 that kind of demands a No. 3, which makes me very happy,” producer Marc Evans told me at the premiere of “The Mother,” Netflix’s new Jennifer Lopez action movie.
In “The Old Guard 2,” Theron reprises her role as the leader of a group of immortal mercenaries, and Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli return as gay couple Joe and Nicky. “You’re going to see more story of Joe and Nicky,” Evans assured.
After pandemic delays, filming began on the sequel, with Victoria Mahoney directing, about a year ago. Asked if Theron was contracted for a third movie, Evans would only say, “Charlize is a producer on the movie and deeply supportive of the franchise.”

There is a lesson Hollywood can learn from Apple TV+’s action romcom Ghosted: if you want to tell a story about a schlub who falls for a spy, don’t cast Captain America as the ordinary one. It’s just asking too much of your audience. You can’t present us with Chris Evans as a guy named Cole Riggan and then argue he’s the polar opposite to Ana de Armas’ ass-kicking, CIA operative Sadie. When Evans falls, he doesn’t flail his limbs about like us mere mortals. When he has to pose as a legendary agent and break bread with the enemy (Adrien Brody’s Leveque), there’s a smirk on his face that reads as a little too confident, a little too in control. You don’t get the sense this guy even sweats.

Chris Evans saved the world (and even the universe) multiple times as Captain America. But in his latest Apple TV+ action film “Ghosted,” it’s Ana de Armas who’s doing the rescuing.
“It was great. I mean, we’ve all seen Ana be badass; she was so good in [‘No Time to Die’],” Evans told Variety at the New York premiere of “Ghosted” on Tuesday night. “It was nice to be the damsel in distress. It was nice to need saving — primarily because I didn’t have to sweat during the action sequences.”
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, “Ghosted” follows hopelessly romantic Cole (Evans), who falls head over heels for the enigmatic Sadie (de Armas). When Sadie seemingly ghosts him, Cole follows her to London as a romantic gesture, only to discover that the girl of his dreams is a CIA agent on assignment.

Would you do it if you could drink something that would make you live forever? Dexter Fletcher will often ask himself this question as he prepares to direct Fountain of Youth for Skydance. The upcoming feature, written by James Vanderbilt, revolves around the mythical place where it grants you eternal life if you drink from it. The Fountain of Youth is the subject of countless stories, with explorers often willing to kill one another for the chance to live forever.
The announcement for Fountain of Youth comes shortly after the trailer debut for Fletcher’s Ghosted, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. In Ghosted, Cole (Chris Evans) falls head over heels for Sadie (Ana de Armas) but then discovers she’s a secret agent. Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

For almost a decade-and-a-half, Dwayne Johnson has been developing the Warner Bros./DC film, "Black Adam." We've finally gotten to see the titular antihero on the big screen going up against the Justice Society of America. And we'll likely see more Black Adam in the future if that cameo in the mid-credits scene is anything to go by, especially since Johnson has said that having Black Adam go up against a certain superhero was the whole point of the film.
In addition to Johnson in the lead role, the cast for "Black Adam" includes Aldis Hodge ("One Night in Miami") as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan ("Mamma Mia!") as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo ("To All the Boys I've Loved Before") as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi ("Sex/Life") as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari ("Murder on the Orient Express") as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell ("Voyagers") as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui ("A Million Little Things") as Amon, and Mo Amer ("Mo") as Karim.

“Black Adam” is here.
The DC Comics antihero, which has been a passion project for star and producer Dwayne Johnson, has finally been brought to the big screen with all the verve and insanity that you’d expect. This movie has everything – the Justice Society (led by Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman), which we cannot stress enough is not the Justice League; dozens of PG-13-defying deaths; a probably-recorded-on-Zoom cameo from Oscar winner Viola Davis; Pierce Brosnan wearing and constantly talking about a silly-looking helmet. Truly, an embarrassment of riches.
As for the actual story, it follows what happens when Teth-Adam (Black Adam’s ancient name) is freed from an eternal prison after 5,000 years. The kingdom he once knew is now a gang-ravaged wasteland (it takes place in the fictional North African country of Kahndaq). The heroic code that governs most superheroes against, say, murdering dozens of people in cold blood,...

DC's "Black Adam" props up Teth-Adam (Dwayne Johnson) as an unconventional super-powered being who reluctantly winds up in a position to protect the modern world from evil. Despite his undefined stance on heroism, Teth-Adam teams up with the Justice Society to stop the Intergang from acquiring a crown of primordial power connected to the demon champion, Sabbac. After Intergang's leader, Ishmael (Marwan Kenzari), manipulates events to trigger the rebirth of Sabbac in his host body, Black Adam and the Justice Society of America attempt to fight this super-powered, awakened demon who seems to be powerful beyond measure. The DC Universe was in need of a hero. DC's plans to emulate the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been hampered now for years by a host of unfortunate factors. "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice" was met by strong critical derision. Snyder's "Justice League" follow-up was further hindered by the director stepping away due to family tragedy, with the film completed by Joss Whedon — a process that expensively altered a movie that also underperformed relative to expectations. The result was a Warner Bros. that sought to implement new leadership and move on without Snyder's vision, followed by campaigns for DC to fund "Zack Snyder's Justice League" amidst a tense battle to determine the way forward for future DC films. It's no surprise that new Warner Bros. head David Zaslav's call for someone to spearhead a 10-year vision for the DC slate of films has so far gone unanswered.

Black Adam is a bewildering entry in a franchise already falling apart at the seams. It’s therefore a perfect fit for what one day might be described as the “chaos era” of DC Comics’s corporate owners Warner Bros. This year, the studio merged with Discovery Group and placed Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav at its head. He then launched a wrecking ball at Warner’s creative portfolio – downsizing its animation unit, threatening any number of forthcoming films and TV shows, and notoriously cancelling HBO Max’s 90m Batgirl film.
Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson, may predate this entire debacle, but it has incidentally harnessed that same sentiment of action without thought. It’s relentless but stubbornly monotonous – what I imagine it’s like to be picked up curbside...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses several major plot elements throughout “Black Adam,” now playing in theaters.
Dwayne Johnson has long promised that “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change” with his movie “Black Adam.” Now that it’s finally released in theaters…will it change anything?
The post-credits scene certainly hopes so. Fans had long been clamoring for Johnson’s super-strong villain to face off against another all-powerful DC hero: Henry Cavill’s Superman. Johnson himself had even been teasing the showdown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and on the “Black Adam” world premiere red carpet. Much to the fans’ delight, Johnson and the “Black Adam” team listened to their request.
Cavill’s Superman does appear in the post-credits scene, and there seems to be some hostility between him and Black Adam. But first, the scene starts out with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller...

"Black Adam" is finally in theaters. While it's still up in the air whether it changes the hierarchy of power, what isn't in question is how much it expands the world of the DC Extended Universe. "Black Adam" is an origin story for the antihero played by Dwayne Johnson, but the film also features the Justice Society of America in a significant supporting role. This big-screen iteration of the team is a mix of members from different versions of the Jsa in the comics, allowing for a diverse set of young and old heroes. While they each more or less get a fun moment to shine in the film, one character ends up not just being the best Jsa character but the best character in "Black Adam" as a whole.

September and much of October were left barren by Hollywood, with "Halloween Ends" providing some relief last weekend. But there will be a new king in town with DC's latest certainly set to take the top spot. The question is, by how much? We have our first indication of how the film is doing with moviegoers as the Thursday preview numbers have surfaced.
According to Variety, "Black Adam" earned 7.6 million on Thursday, giving it a nice jumpstart on the weekend. The film is playing in 3,500 theaters, making it far and away the widest release of the weekend. Though Universal is also hoping to score with George Clooney and Julia Roberts' "Ticket to Paradise," which also opens this...

We have reached the end of a very long journey, DC fans. "Black Adam" has finally arrived in theaters, bringing an epic 15-year saga to its conclusion (or perhaps beginning?) for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The man became attached to the role back in 2007 and, at long last, he has brought Teth Adam to life on the big screen for the first time in the character's history. So, how did it go?
Today, we're going to go over the movie briefly, but mostly focus on the ending and what it means for the character in the Dceu, and, broadly speaking, what it means from an analytical standpoint. And, not to show my hand here, but does it have anything hiding underneath the surface at all? Or is this truly just an antihero origin story? Let's dig in.
Warning: this post contains major spoilers for "Black Adam." Proceed with caution.

Finally, Black Adam signals the return of the blockbuster. The Dceu film could not come soon enough, arriving after a brutal box office drought with 12 straight weekends where the overall box office was below 100 million, a streak that will hopefully be broken this weekend. After over two months of what was ultimately counter-programming without the main programming, it’s great to have some heavier weight classes back in the ring, which started with last weekend’s disappointing but still good 40.1 million opening for Halloween Ends. Black Adam isn’t the sort to come even close to a nine digit opening (for that we’ll have to wait three weeks for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), but two weeks in a row of at least mid-eight digit openings is bringing some much needed relief to a struggling marketplace.

Actor Noah Centineo, who plays the role of Atom Smasher in the recently released superhero film ‘Black Adam’, recently shared his memories of reading and being consumed by DC comics.
The actor told Ians: “I grew up pretending to have superpowers in my room. I grew up watching animated DC films. I remember spending hours with those books where you could draw DC characters.”
When asked about how life has come full circle for him with ‘Black Adam’, he said: “To grow up and be able to portray one of my most loved superheroes in such a way working with talents such as Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan is like a dream come true for that little kid.”
Sharing his experience of working with Pierce Brosnan, Noah said: “It was a huge learning opportunity. When you work with an artiste of Pierce Brosnan’s stature, you really get into giving 100 per cent to the character.

Spoiler Alert: This story references a major reveal that is included in the end-credits scene for “Black Adam.”
Much of the weeks leading up to the release of “Black Adam” has been dominated by Dwayne Johnson touting his eponymous comic book character’s future fight against Superman. Johnson has all but confirmed that his “Black Adam” movie will reintroduce Henry Cavill as Superman after he took on the role in films such as “Man of Steal,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League.” But “Black Adam” producer Hiram Garcia recently told CinemaBlend (via Collider) that a Superman vs. Black Adam fight won’t just be defined by just a “one-off” movie.
“It’s never been about a one off or just about a fight,” said Garcia, who has been Dwayne Johnson’s longtime producing partner on films such as “Jumanji,” “Hobbs & Shaw” and more.

Dwayne Johnson stars as DC’s anti-hero Black Adam in this de facto spin-off from 2019’s Shazam. Indeed, the character was originally intended to be the antagonist in the Shazam movie, until producers decided he merited his own franchise. On the strength of the new movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, that was probably the right call.
Unusually for a DC superhero movie, Black Adam is set entirely in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Kahndaq, which has been enriched by the discovery of a powerful element called Eternium (similarities to Black Panther’s Vibranium are presumably coincidental). When Kahndaq freedom fighter-slash-archaeologist Adrianna (Sarah Shahi) unearths a mystical crown, she unwittingly releases Teth-Adam (Johnson), an all-powerful super-being who soon unleashes his destructive force on Intergang,...

The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change, or so says The Rock. That's because "Black Adam" is finally hitting theaters after being stuck in development for years (and years). Dwayne Johnson has been attached to the role for a very long time, but through persistence and a lot of shifts behind the scenes at DC Films, this one finally came to fruition, with director Jaume Collet-Serra ("Jungle Cruise") behind the camera. But now for the ever-important question: do moviegoers have to sit through the credits?
Well, dear reader, we are here to answer that question and let you know in spoiler-free fashion whether or not the movie has a post-credits scene, or scenes, of any kind. That way, you can plan those bathroom breaks accordingly. Again, we will not spoil anything here so read on with ease. Let's get into it.

Spoiler Alert: This story references a major reveal that is included in the end-credits scene for “Black Adam.”
As often happens, footage from Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” — specifically the DC superhero movie’s end-credits scene with a very spolier-y reveal — has been leaked onto social media platforms.
There’s a bit of “dog bites man” about this. Such leaks happen with regular occurrence online. However, the end-credits scene, which has leaked out a week ahead of the Warner Bros. movie’s Oct. 21 theatrical release, does spoil one of the main reasons people may want to buy a ticket to see “Black Adam” in theaters.
Several posts that popped up Thursday on Twitter included video with the “Black Adam” scene. The social network confirmed to Variety that it is “removing the content in line with our rules,” according to a Twitter rep. The footage also has been posted to TikTok...

After 15 years in the making, Black Adam finally made its debut on Wednesday night, hosting its world premiere in Times Square.
The DC film, which stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero who is released into modern times after 5,000 years of imprisonment, has been a longtime dream of Johnson’s, as he told THR about putting on his (not-muscle-padded) suit for the first time.
“I just took a look in the mirror — it was a very humbling moment because I fought so hard for this movie to get this movie made, and keep it on track. Fifteen long years, and here we are,” Johnson reminisced on the red carpet. “Before I walked out of my trailer on day one, I was grateful: Thank you, God; thank you, universe; let’s go to work. Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he “absolutely” intends to make a Black Adam-Superman crossover film – going so far as to say that this prospect was “the whole point” of making his forthcoming DC antihero standalone pic.
Johnson’s comments came in a recent interview with CinemaBlend, in which he reiterated that “a new era in the DC Universe” is about to kick off. “What I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It’s not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was…you know, Black Adam!” he said. “Two years ago the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not, you know, the rest of the mass out there. The DC/Warner Bros. Pictures film "Black Adam" has been in development for almost a decade, and it's been a passion project since the beginning for star Dwayne Johnson. This character is powerful, and for quite some time, we've been hearing Johnson say that the "hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change." We all know what that means: Johnson has been hoping for a showdown between Superman and Black Adam, whose powers are a match for the Kryptonian.
Black Adam is also known as Teth-Adam, a man who lived thousands of years ago in Kahndaq, a fictional city in the Middle East. He's granted powers, then locked away. When he's awoken again, the Justice Society of America -- including Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) -- is sent by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to deal with this new force causing chaos.

Exclusive: Disney is working on a live action fantasy and sci-fi-infused movie inspired by the classic Middle East folk tale collection, One Thousand And One Nights, aka Arabian Nights.
The Walt Disney Pictures project, currently titled 1001 Nights, is being penned and exec-produced by Arash Amel, who recently wrote well-received Disney+ movie Rise, about NBA Mvp Giannis Antetokounmpo, and who previously penned A Private War, starring Rosamund Pike as war correspondent Marie Colvin.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but I understand this will be an original take drawn from the ancient folk tales and will be a standalone IP, not related to any existing Disney properties such as their Aladdin franchise. Aladdin’s Wonderful Lamp is one of the stories contained in the Arabian Nights collection, along with other well known stores such as Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves and The Seven Voyages Of Sinbad The Sailor. WaterTower Music has released the first music to be heard from the upcoming New Line Cinema action adventure “Black Adam,” starring Dwayne Johnson. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the uncompromising DC antihero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”). The Black Adam Theme (from “Black Adam”) by highly respected Grammy Award-winning and Emmy-nominated composer Lorne Balfe has just been released – in advance of the film and soundtrack release. “Black Adam” smashes into theaters and IMAX internationally beginning 19 October 2022, and in North America on October 21, 2022.
Balfe’s vision for the music of Black Adam encompasses an exploration into the back stories that define the characters. After years spent in development hell, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will finally be hitting theaters next month. Johnson has frequently said that the movie will change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe as it starts a whole new era, but it won’t be long until we find out for ourselves. New Line Cinema has released a new Black Adam poster which finds Black Adam seated upon a throne.
The Black Adam poster proclaims that the time for heroes is over, but I’ll be curious to see just how dark they’ll take the character without making him a straight-up villain. The movie has certainly been a long time coming, and at one point, the character was supposed to appear in the Shazam! movie before Dwayne Johnson decided the two needed their own separate movies.

Dwayne Johnson will soon be making his comics film debut by appearing in Black Adam, and the actor/producer of the film recently spoke about how he got the villain his own solo origin story.
It was known that Johnson was originally supposed to play Black Adam in the 2019 film Shazam! and face off against Zachary Levi as the titular hero, but said he cooled to the idea after reading the first attempt at the screenplay, saying he felt it was “an incredible disservice” to Black Adam, he told Vanity Fair.
