Told in flashback, End of Term opens with a young student, Melissa (Chelsea Edge), being interviewed by DS Stacy Harcourt (Julie Graham) and Di Jim Burman (David Bamber) who are investigating the death of a teacher Damian Self at the Ford Barrington School of Art. Only this school has a history and that history is coming back to haunt this year’s graduating class. Literally.
You see some 50 years earlier artist Garth Stroman, had a disturbing vision for his art – a vision which hangs over the current crop of students, in particular Melissa’s sister who is infatuated with Stroman’s obsession with Bdsm in his art. In fact, Stroman torments the school and in this case, the graduating class who are embarking on a journey of artistic exploration…...

Weird goings-on in a basement lead to Cluedo-ish suspects and piecemeal flashbacks, but here it is the audience that suffers in the name of art
‘So, you call yourself conceptualists, do you?” says the straight-arrow detective quizzing Melissa (Chelsea Edge), a cool-customer art student with three long lacerations on her face. “Mostly. Ashley wasn’t,” Melissa replies. “Unless anti-conceptualism is a concept. She was always about being in the moment. Expressionism. Impressionism.” End of Term has a fondness for bandying around the art-theory big talk, but this silly but stolidly genre project could sorely use a conceptual cutting edge itself.
Melissa is getting questioned after being found strapped to a chair in the blood-splattered basement of Ford Barrington art school. Strangely, there are no bodies – except for that of snooty art critic Damian Self (Ronald Pickup) in the nearby space for the students’ end-of-term exhibition. In Usual Suspects-style piecemeal flashbacks,...

One of the first things you’ll learn if you watch or read science fiction is that meteor showers are bad for your health. Especially if they’re unexpected. Especially if you can actually see the meteors hitting the ground, and all the more so if one lands in your pool.
Dierdre (Lucy Marton), Heather (Sophie Vavasseur) and Charlotte (Chelsea Edge) are in one of the safer places to be in the event of an alien invasion: out in the desert, in the middle of nowhere. They do not, however, really have the skills for handling this kind of thing. Social media influencer Dierdre is distraught because she can’t stream what she’s seeing (never mind the fact that people can probably see it for themselves across hundreds or even thousands of miles). She and Heather are utterly disgusted by the slim-looking egg thing in the pool, and all the more so when it.

As The Seed opens Heather, Diedre and Charlotte arrive at an opulent vacation home in the middle of what is supposed to be the Mojave Desert, (the film was shot in Malta).
There’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower, (where have we heard that before?), and social media personalities Heather and Dierdre think this will be the perfect location for a photoshoot incorporating it. Charlotte who has no social media presence at all just wants to hang out and party with her friends from school. Things become complicated when something falls from the sky and lands in their pool. Not a meteorite, but something alive.
Saying the leads are unlikable would be an understatement. Heather is the kind of famous for being born rich celebrity that makes it...

If you’re looking for a family-friendly alien invasion movie like E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, you will not find it here. The new out of this world horror comedy, The Seed, is not kid-friendly, but it does feature an incredibly cute alien who has a devious plan for world domination. The Seed is produced by Shudder, Camelot Films and Hardman Pictures, in association with Lipsync Productions, Amp International, The Malta Film Commission and Ingenious Media. The film is written and directed by British filmmaker Sam Walker in his feature film debut.
The Seed stars Lucy Martin (Vikings) as Diedre, Sophie Vavasseur (Resident Evil: Apocapylse) as Heather, and Chelsea Edge (I Hate Suzie) as Charlotte, a group of friends who have bonded over their social media channels. They decide to go to Heather’s family home in the Mojave Desert for a girls’ getaway and to film the upcoming meteor...

Childhood friends Charlotte (Chelsea Edge), Heather (Sophie Vavasseur), and Deidre (Lucy Martin) never get to hang out anymore. Adulthood has a tendency of keeping once-inseparable cliques apart, but they’re hoping a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower is just the excuse to finally get them together again. What better reason is there for Heather to use her father’s isolated modern mansion in the middle of nowhere? She can cajole Charlotte’s analog and low-maintenance “nerd” away from her 9-to-5 grind, as well as Deidre’s ultra-popular social-media influencer from her hectically vapid life by promising peace and quiet to the former and scenic livestream views to the latter. Maybe they’ll even have fun breaking from their usual routines to remember who they were all those years ago.
It’s a solid entry point into writer-director Sam Walker’s feature debut The Seed because it sets up conflict rooted in their pasts.

"Killing it is the kind thing." Shudder has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror dark comedy thriller titled The Seed, which first premiered at last year's Beyond Fest.
