Editor’s Note: He’s already shared his screen time rankings for each of Saturday Night Live’s Season 49 cast members, hosts and musical guests, now in his final season-end screen time post, Matthew Stewart turns his trusty stopwatch to this season’s cameo performances.
As usual, the 49th season of Saturday Night Live was packed full of cameos, some lasting just a few seconds while others went on for several minutes. In all, 48 well-known individuals made unannounced speaking or singing appearances over the course of the season, and eight of them (including four of the season’s hosts) were seen in multiple episodes. Scroll down to see who among the group got the most (and least) screen time.
Nine of the 48 cameos were by unannounced guest artists who performed alongside the show’s musical guests. Also included in this list are another 10 credited musical guests who participated in at...

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Travis Kelce recently spoke out about being booed during an NBA playoff game. Kelce was in Dallas watching the Mavericks play. However, basketball fans did not seem to enjoy him being there. His teammate, Patrick Mahomes, was in fact not booed along with him. Could this be due to Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift and gaining a lot of attention? Keep reading to find out more.
Travis Kelce Is Still A Fan Of Texas Sports
Travis Kelce may have been booed at the NBA playoff game, but that does not stop him from enjoying Texas sports.
“Dude, I grew up a huge Jason Witten [former Cowboys tight end] appreciator, the Cowboys were always the f—ing boys when they had Deion and and Emmitt … and dude, I used to wanna be a Stars [player], man. I did used to wanna be a Dallas Star, but I also wanted to be a Cowboy there for a little bit.

Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror film Witchboard is one of my all-time favorites, and I also enjoy the 1993 sequel Witchboard 2: The Devil’s Doorway, which has previously received a Blu-ray release from Olive Films. Yesterday, Tenney took to his Facebook account to share a picture of him with Witchboard 2 star Ami Dolenz and reveal that a Blu-ray re-release was in the works at some unspecified company… but, unfortunately, has been postponed indefinitely for reasons Tenney didn’t reveal.
Tenney wrote, “Hung out with the lovely and talented Ami Dolenz while she gave an on-camera interview in her living room for a Blu-ray re-release of Witchboard 2, which was due to come out earlier this year. This is the only on-camera interview she’s ever recorded for our film as far as I know, but unfortunately its release has been postponed indefinitely for the time being…“

The 49th season of Saturday Night Live featured 40 distinct musical guest segments that accounted for 12.2% of the season’s total running time. The 20 artists collectively achieved about two hours and 28 minutes of screen time, averaging out to almost seven and a half minutes apiece. Scroll down to see how each stacked up against one another.
Note that the screen times listed here for Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa, who each pulled double duty this season as both host and musical guest, do not include their sketch appearances (those numbers can be found in our host ranking).
Also not factored into this ranking are cameos that ten of this season’s musical guests made during their respective episodes
Our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count.

She’s worked with some of the biggest names in pop culture over the six years she’s spent on the cast of Saturday Night Live, but there’s one would-be host who remains Heidi Gardner’s white whale.
In a new interview with her hometown paper, Kansas City’s The Pitch, Gardner was quick to answer when asked who’s on her must-have host list. “Obviously, [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick] Mahomes would be incredible to get,” she said.
Referencing Travis Kelce’s 2023 SNL hosting stint, Gardner added “Just the fact that a Kansas City Chief hosted SNL is so cool. I’m probably pressing my luck trying to get another one.”
It’s not exactly a pipe dream. Mahomes recently let slip that he turned down hosting the show this season, but said that it remains on his bucket list.

Ramy Youssef’s latest HBO special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” had been in the works for years — and had evolved over time as Youssef got in a relationship and eventually got married. But some of his routine also became very more front and center for audiences in the wake of the war in Gaza.
“There’s stuff that I do touch on, a tightrope walk of taking really big concepts, and then making them super personal,” Youssef tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “With our show [Hulu’s “Ramy”], we had already done that with Palestine and Israel. And in my stand up, I had already done versions of it. But in the last seven or eight months, it became something that has risen to the surface for everybody. When you’re taking your time to talk about it for 10 minutes in a set, it’s important to you. On a show,...

Universally beloved figures are increasingly rare these days, with a distressing number of our former heroes having been outed as one kind of monster or another in recent years. Jim Henson is a notable exception. The creator of the Muppets remains as revered today as he was during his too-short life, an enduring icon of wholesomeness whose legend has only grown since he died in 1990 at the age of 53. Among his legion of admirers is Ron Howard, whose documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” premiered at Cannes earlier this month and will be available to stream on Disney+ this Friday.

In 2005, Hamilton and Girls5Eva star Renee Elise Goldsberry went back home to Chicago to visit her dad. She accompanied him to church, where the reverend made a to-do of her presence. “We have a guest,” he announced to the congregation, and then proceeded to tick off her professional accomplishments, which, at that point, included a soap opera and a stint on Broadway.
Goldsberry didn’t immediately recognize herself in the introduction. “I’m looking around, like, “Who’s in the house when I’m here?” she says. “Because the year I had, I’d had two very painful miscarriages. One was in the second trimester. It was terribly painful.”
She stood up and waved, nevertheless, but it served as a stark reminder that describing her as a Tony winner or a Grammy winner or whatever else her IMDb profile offers is not fully representative of who she is. “And quite honestly,...

Ego Nwodim just completed her sixth season as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” so what is it that keeps her coming back year after year to NBC’s sketch comedy series? “For me, what is so special about the show is the unpredictability of every week … and that keeps the excitement and the fun alive,” she tells us. “You can never really find yourself in a routine or rut, because it resets every single week, and that’s really special about the show. I don’t know that there are many other jobs like that, certainly not as a performer in the same way.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Bob Dylan returned to the city that gave him his start this weekend—but he sure looked a lot like Saturday Night Live player James Austin Johnson.
To mark Dylan’s 83rd birthday, Johnson brought his impression of the legendary singer/songwriter to Washington Square Park.
“Made up a Theme Time Radio Hour segment for Bob Dylan’s Birthday at Washington Square park,” Johnson wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of the performance. Theme Time Radio Hour was a radio show Dylan hosted on Xm Satellite Radio from 2006-2009.
In the clip, Johnson-as-Dylan waxes reflective on summer staples like baseball games, suntan lotion, and carnivals—alongside SNL writer Mike Dicenzo and accompanied by musician Matt Sucich on guitar.

Robert Smigel has been responsible for some of the most memorable and inspired late-night TV of the last four decades. From his long association with Saturday Night Live, to his creative partnership with Conan O’Brien, the man who gives voice to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is a late night hall of famer if ever there was one.
In this episode of Inside Late Night, Smigel joins Mark Malkoff for a free-flowing conversation about his many years at 30 Rock, from the origins of two Steve Martin sketches that are among his proudest, to the time he says Lorne Michaels forgave him for “almost breaking” the show.
The two also discuss the evolution of the Late Night with Conan O’Brien remote, the art of the pre-show audience warm-up and how it contributed to Conan making Late Night his own, backstage tensions at SNL, and more.

Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

The Garfield Movie has arrived in theaters ahead of Memorial Day to kick off the summer fun alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The animated feature film stars the titular orange tabby cat in a coming-of-age story based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strips and an adapted script from David Reunolds (Finding Nemo) based on an earlier draft from Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) directs the creature feature.
With Chris Pratt bringing Garfield to life and Samuel L. Jackson voicing his streetwise and long-list father Vic, the film boasts quite an ensemble of voice actors that further contribute to Garfield’s adventure. Ted Lasso alumni Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham lend their familiar vocals to the movie as do Saturday Night Live alumni Bowen Yang and Cecily Strong.

Ted Lasso alumni Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham lend their familiar vocals to the movie as do Saturday Night Live alumni Bowen Yang and Cecily Strong.

Saturday Night Live’s 49th season cast consisted of 12 repertory performers and five featured players who were each seen on screen for an average of one hour, 20 minutes and 19 seconds. Some successfully or very nearly clocked in beyond two hours, while others fell short of reaching the one-hour mark. Scroll down to see how all 17 regulars (plus the three members of Please Don’t Destroy) stack up against each other.
A reminder: LateNighter’s screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Too many comedians are taking “the path of least resistance” and failing to address contentious political topics, according to the creator of The Thick of It and Veep.
Storied British comedy creator Armando Iannucci said he often hears comics utter phrases like “I have to be careful about what I say,” with his comments coming as both the UK and U.S. warm up for general elections in six weeks and six months respectively.
Speaking at the BBC Comedy Festival in Glasgow, Iannucci urged comedians to meet these challenges head on.
“Comedy is not belittling a subject but if it chooses to look at that subject it is offering a way into it that might offer a surprising or fresh perspective,” he added. “It is asking us to tell ourselves what we think about something, and how we might respond to that. We shouldn’t feel that someone is telling...

Chloe Fineman’s IMDb page just keeps growing.
Less than a week after walking the red carpet at Cannes alongside Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, and Aubrey Plaza—her co-stars in Francis Ford Coppola’s long-simmering passion project Megalopolis—the Saturday Night Live star has gotten Laid.
According to a new Deadline report, Fineman is among the impressive list of guest stars who have signed onto the upcoming Peacock project, which stars Stephanie Hsu, Zosia Mamet, and Michael Angarano.
The comedy series, which Deadline says has been “described as a f*cked-up rom-com,” is based on the Australian series of the same name. It follows the adventures of a young woman (Hsu) who is shocked to learn that her exes are dying in a series of bizarre ways, so she attempts to reconstruct her full sex timeline in order to save those who remain.

It’s been nearly 18 years since Michael Richards, best known for playing Kramer in Seinfeld, had a very controversial outburst that basically cost him his career. He has been out of the spotlight since then, but the actor has recently appeared at the premiere of his colleague’s movie Unfrosted, which was not that well received by either the critics or the audiences, but Richards came to support Jerry Seinfeld. This was a rare public appearance by the former star and, of course, the media used the opportunity to talk to the actor, especially about the 2006 incident.
The incident we are talking about, if you don’t remember, happened during a stand-up show in Los Angeles, when some Black members of the audience supposedly reacted in a way that Richards did not like. The actor then had an aggressive and highly controversial outburst, saying the following:

At this month’s Cannes Film Festival, Francis Ford Coppola and Kevin Costner each unveiled passion projects they opted to finance themselves after institutional backers initially passed. This week, three auteurs make a trend — except instead of putting his own funds toward a deeply personal, sweeping epic, comedian Shane Gillis has made a lewd, bro-y workplace comedy set at a Pennsylvania tire shop.
Since getting fired from “Saturday Night Live” — before he’d even started — for offensive jokes on his podcast, Gillis has become the poster child for a decentralized, grassroots attention economy that allows some entertainers to build thriving careers without gatekeepers’ blessings. His 2021 special “Live in Austin” blew up on YouTube; the same podcast that cost him “SNL,” co-hosted with fellow comic Matt McCusker, continues apace; Gillis even self-produced his own sketch comedy series, “Gilly and Keeves,” which culminated with a feature-length special last year. “Welcome to The View, ladies!” Michelle Buteau whoops as the comedy actress roundtable veers into more dramatic territory. It was a question about the most transformative performances or periods of their collective careers that has sent this Emmy-worthy sextet — Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim, Loot’s Maya Rudolph, Palm Royale’s Kristen Wiig, Girls5eva’s Renée Elise Goldsberry and Survival of the Thickest’s Buteau — down a rabbit hole of self-doubt and self-discovery. And though a succession of big belly laughs punctuate the hourlong conversation at The Georgian Hotel in mid-April, the actresses also get serious about their fertility struggles and identity crises.

Rachel Dratch made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live October 23rd 1999. It was a bit part—she played Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart in a parody of an MSNBC panel show—but Dratch killed it so hard that she was asked to bring the same impression back the very next episode. Already on her way, a week later she and Jimmy Fallon brought down the house in the first “Boston Teens” sketch.
But as she reveals to Mark Malkoff, Dratch’s rocket ship to SNL royalty had a slower start than it seemed to viewers watching at home at the time. In fact, she spent her first two episodes on the job without a single sketch making it to air.
Needless to say, Dratch quickly made up for lost (air)time, enjoying a legendary seven-year run on the show, and returning to cameo a whopping 14 times.

The new Netflix streaming comedy Tires is in the vein of single-camera sitcoms from Greg Daniels or Michael Schur. Yet, Tires is far from being on par with The Office or Parks and Recreation. In fact, this will probably be the first and last time the new Shane Gillis comedy is mentioned in the same breath as those classic sitcoms.
That’s because Tires is a poor imitation of those workplace comedies. At its worst, the new sitcom can be tedious, grating, and painfully unfunny. At its best, the series is something you have on in the background—a harmless, politically incorrect excursion. Yes, the jokes are on the hapless and clueless characters. However, that doesn’t make it good or mean its heart is in the right place.

Michael Richards is addressing his racist outburst 18 years after the incident.
The Seinfeld actor has been out of the spotlight since the 2006 incident where he was recorded using the n-word and racial slurs while at the Laugh Factory in L.A. Richards made a rare appearance at the premiere of Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix film Unfrosted and is about to release a memoir titled Entrances and Exits.
In a new interview with People, he acknowledges that he doesn’t expect people to forget the incident, adding, “I’m not looking for a comeback.”
“My anger was all over the place, and it came through hard and fast,” he continued. “Anger is quite a force. But it happened. Rather than run from it, I dove into the deep end and tried to learn from it. It hasn’t been easy.”

“Seinfeld” fans got a shock last month when Michael Richards made a public appearance at the Hollywood premiere for Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix movie “Unfrosted.” It was one of the rare times Richards has showed up on a major red carpet in nearly 18 years, as his career more or less ended in 2006 after he was recorded hurling the N-word and other racial insults at a group of hecklers during an infamous outburst while onstage at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.
Richards, who played Kramer on “Seinfeld” for nearly a decade and won three Emmys for his performance, is now returning to the spotlight due to the upcoming release of his memoir, “Entrances and Exits.” He recently told People magazine that “I’m not looking for a comeback” and stressed that he was “immediately sorry the moment” he said racial slurs onstage in November 2006.

Everyone knows the mongoose is one of nature’s slipperiest animals. Not only can they run at 20 mph, but they’re also resistant to snake venom! Saturday Night Live wrapped up its 49th season last week with one of its strongest recent episodes, thanks in large part to (third time) host Jake Gyllenhaal. So it’s hardly surprising that the Road House actor’s name is among those that have been submitted for Emmy consideration in the Outstanding Guest Actor In a Comedy Series category. But he’s far from the only recent host whose name is in the mix.
On Tuesday, Variety reported that at least 17 of the 20 individuals who hosted SNL this season have been submitted for Emmy consideration. If that seems like a lot of people competing for the same awards, that’s because it is: it’s the highest number of hosts to submit in the past five years.

“Saturday Night Live” ended its 49th season on May 18, and now all eyes are set for the fall of 2024, when the monumental 50th season will begin. “I get awestruck at that idea and that concept,” reveals Bowen Yang, who just wrapped up his fifth year as a cast member. “It’s all tied back to [showrunner and creator] Lorne Michaels and all of the producers who’ve been on that journey with him and us, and who’ve supported people and launched their careers. You may want to take LateNighter’s Saturday Night Live screen time reports for Sarah Sherman with a grain of salt, since some of her time this season could be attributed to a recurring guest star: her fake severed head.
As Sherman pointed out in an Instagram post this week, she was decapitated twice on the show this season.
In the post, (the real) Sherman can be seen posing alongside the model of her head. Also included is a photo of the prop head atop the muscular torso she wore in this season’s “Gym Call” sketch (alongside a photobomb by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog).
Sherman’s first beheading came in a pre-taped sketch last November with host Jason Momoa, who knocked off the head of Sherman’s tennis player character Charna Lee Diamond with a particularly strong serve.

Within the next year, the memories, evaluations, assessments, and historical judgements of the impact and legacy of Saturday Night Live will become like a great song you’ve always enjoyed but suddenly can’t rid from your beleaguered brain as the show approaches its 50th anniversary special in February 2025.
So let’s not get into that.
Let’s instead take note that the 49th season, which wrapped up Saturday with another fine hosting job—this one by Jake Gyllenhaal—was damn good. Meaning: a high percentage of the episodes were above average, and several, especially during a strong run of hosts this spring—Kristen Wiig, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Maya Rudolph, and Gyllenhaal—were well above average.
Such a season-long performance should not be smiled about, patted on the head, and sent on its way. It should be celebrated, because putting on a live 90-minute comedy show 20 times a year is a feat.

Ayo Edebiri is calling rumors she was beefing with Jennifer Lopez “absurd” after a clip from a 2020 podcast surfaced in which The Bear star agreed with the host, saying J.Lo’s career was a “scam.”

Edebiri addressed the controversy on SNL, saying in a game show sketch, “Ok, Ok, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”

For basketball fans already mourning the potential loss of TNT’s Inside the NBA, there may be some small consolation: NBC may bring back John Tesh’s iconic “Roundball Rock.”
NBCU is reportedly set to bid $2.5 a year for rights to NBA games going forward, according to the Wall Street Journal. If the offer is successful, the company would supplant media rival Warner Bros.
