Mark Wahlberg promised that he gets to show a very different side of himself in “Flight Risk,” a new thriller from Mel Gibson. And based on the trailer that Lionsgate shared at CinemaCon on Thursday, that’s no exaggeration. Wahlberg, who specializes in square-jawed heroes, is balding and psychotic, playing a mob hit man who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant out of a remote area.
Scenery is chewed as Wahlberg sports a faux Southern accent and flashes a sociopathic glint in his eye. Gibson, no stranger to controversies over the years, is presented in the trailer as the Oscar-winning director of “Braveheart” and “Apocalypto.” Gibson also earned an Oscar nomination for “Hacksaw Ridge.” He and Wahlberg have worked together in the past on “Father Stu” and “Daddy’s Home 2.” “Flight Risk” is different from those films (think aviation thrillers like “Executive Decision...

“You know animals are hairy?,” sang the Talking Heads David Byrne. “They say animals don’t worry…” Well, in David and Nathan Zellner’s Sasquatch Sunset, forthcoming from Bleecker Street Pictures, the latter statement is definitely not correct as the filmmakers — Filmmaker 25 New Faces from back in 2008 — wring wonder and joy but also anxiety and fear of encroaching humankind in their story of a family of Sasquatch living undetected in the wilds of Colorado. Bleecker Street’s redband trailer leans hard into Sasquatch sex while cleverly underlining that there’s name talent (Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough) in this movie. […]

Kate Middleton‘s and Prince William’s bios on the House of Windsor’s website received a royal refresh. The couple, who have faced Kate’s health struggles over the past month, are more prominent than ever before among other senior royals such as King Charles and Queen Camilla. However, the inclusion of Prince Harry in both their work histories is a surprising addition.

Talking Heads’ David Byrne, Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth reunited this past fall for the first time in 20 years to participate in a Q&a discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival’s screening of Stop Making Sense. Now, we’re learning that some promoters were hoping that the conversation could lead to a wider reunion. Among them were Live Nation and Coachella, who both hoped to book the legendary band for headlining gigs this year, but failed.
The news comes via a report from Billboard, which reveals that festival curator and Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett flew to Toronto for the screening of Stop Making Sense, hoping to discuss the possibility of a reunion at Coachella 2024 with members of the band and their reps. Upon arriving and conducting a vibe check, though, Tollett told Billboard that he “sensed there were no shows happening, so I didn’t make an offer.

A24 will also release a special collection of merchandise available to purchase at selected theaters. A preorder for a collector’s edition 4K and Blu-ray release of the film will open Jan. 27. Paramore eyes some oversized outerwear in the first teaser for A24’s forthcoming album paying tribute to the Talking Heads’ classic performance film Stop Making Sense.
A24 and Paramore took to social media Wednesday to share a video announcing the album, set to feature 16 artists each covering a different track from the 1984 movie. The video includes a snippet of Paramore’s version of “Burning Down the House,” which is teased as the first track for the project that has yet to announce a release date.
In the video, Paramore singer Hayley Williams receives a box at her doorstep and pulls out a gray suit jacket reminiscent of one that Talking Heads singer David Byrne famously dons in Jonathan Demme’s original movie. Filmed over four nights at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles the year prior, Stop Making Sense features hits including “Once in a Lifetime” and “Psycho Killer” and...

The college where Dream Scenario's protagonist works is called Osler. It might be named for Sir William, 1st Baronet, one of the fathers of modern medicine. That surname is probably derived from (h)ostler, one who looks after horses at an inn. Somewhere between the two is an old diagnostic adage. "If you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras".
'A24' isn't a genre, but Dream Scenario suggests that it does have sufficiently close associations with one that it might serve as proxy. A familiar tone, a space somewhere between horror and awkwardness, references to Talking Heads. There's a certain weight, the kind that one might find tied to names like Jonathan Cape or Picador.
Other names spring to mind too. Beau Is Afraid, though longer and, frankly, better. The Weather Man had a younger Nicolas Cage going through some other tribulations. A Serious Man is the Coens doing a.

This has been Taylor Swift’s year. Everything, and everyone, she touches seems to turn to gold.
Swift’s net worth crossed the $1 billion mark on the back of this year’s success, and her “Eras Tour” could be more accurately called the “Records Tour” because of all the records she broke. It is currently the second-highest-grossing tour of all time and looks set to surpass Elton John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour next year. The concert film currently in theaters, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a concert film, raking in $96 million in its first four days. What’s more, “The Eras Tour” still doesn’t have a streaming deal and is poised to be a major get for whichever service Swift decides to make the film’s home.
What does the success of the “Eras Tour” movie mean for other artists?...

A commentator says Heads Together, Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton‘s 2016 mental health awareness campaign likely contributed to Meghan Markle‘s “wrong” idea about life in the royal family. How Heads Together didn’t accurately reflect the “mundane reality” of royal life. Plus, what the Duchess of Sussex later had to say about the campaign.
Harry talked about his own mental health during 2016’s Heads Together awareness campaign
Today, Harry opening up about his mental health is nothing new. In 2016, however, the topic hadn’t really been discussed by British royals, especially not their personal experiences.

Harry, along with his brother and sister-in-law, talked about their mental health while promoting the campaign, which launched in May 2016. Much ink has been spilled regarding "Taylor Swift: The Era's Tour." The Grammy-winning, chart-topping artist released a concert film documenting her massive ongoing tour in theaters recently, and it's gone all too well so far, with the movie earning more than $92 million on its opening weekend in theaters domestically. Meanwhile, another concert film -- one that was originally made nearly 40 years ago -- has been quietly cementing itself as a box office success as well.
Over the last several weeks, Jonathan Demme's 1984 concert film "Stop Making Sense," featuring the Talking Heads, has been making the rounds in theaters. A24 recently remastered the film in 4K timed to its upcoming 40th anniversary and, somewhat quietly, the film has been doing quite well for itself. To date, it's made $4.5 million domestically in re-release, to go along with $641,000 internationally, including $171,000 from 258 screens in its most recent weekend, per Box Office Mojo. That's...

If you’re here wondering why “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” isn’t new tonight, wonder no further. Tuesday’s episode was canceled at the last minute because Colbert is still battling a recent Covid-19 infection.

Exclusive: Talpa Studios entertainment format The Floor is in production for a remake in Ukraine, as a response to the devastating war that continues to cripple the Eastern European country.
Novy Channel and Netherlands-based Talpa are co-producing the remake of the shiny floor show as part of a relief effort designed to “offer a form of distraction from the news and contribute to the positive well-being of Ukrainian viewers,” they say.
The Floor Ukraine is set to air in spring 2024, with a quick turnaround production kicking off in the safety of the Netherlands at Talpa’s production hub yesterday. Olena Anotova, Head of Production at Novy stablemate Starlight Production, told Deadline it was currently “not safe to set up a steady and continuous production of this scale” in her home country.
“The production of The Floor in the Netherlands offers a safe environment for both contestants and the Ukrainian production team.

Duran Duran have shared their funky new song “Black Moonlight,” one of the band’s three originals from their upcoming Halloween-inspired, largely covers album Danse Macabre.
For the track, Duran Duran reunited with longtime collaborator Nile Rodgers, who previously produced the band’s 1986 LP Notorious, in addition to other contributions throughout the decades.
“‘Black Moonlight’ is this classic Duran Duran-Nile Rodgers collaboration,” Simon Le Bon said in a statement. “When Nile started playing his guitar in the studio, he really inspired everyone with his riff, and the song just kind of wrote itself.

“Stop Making Sense,” the Talking Heads concert film breathlessly directed by the late, great Jonathan Demme, is returning to theaters this fall, newly restored for its 40th-ish anniversary (the movie actually came out in 1984 but was filmed in 1983).
While a re-release of “Stop Making Sense,” overseen by A24, is exciting, perhaps even more exciting is the fact that the band will reunite at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 11 for a chat moderated by Spike Lee. Lee directed the filmed version of David Byrne’s “American Utopia” for HBO.
Byrne will be joined by Jerry Harrison and the still-married Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth on stage.
The chat will be live-broadcast for a special Global IMAX Live event that same night; the movie will then be in IMAX theaters exclusively on September 22 and everywhere September 29 “in a pristine new 4K restoration,” according to A24.

At one time Prince Harry seemed to have a wonderful relationship with his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales (formerly Kate Middleton), and his brother, Prince William. Or at least that’s what we all thought. But years before Harry’s feud with his family became public knowledge, he showed signs of “vulnerability” in a video with Will and Kate that one body language expert has called “upsetting.”

Madonna has shared a powerful tribute to late record executive Seymour Stein, the man who signed her and “changed my world”.
Sire Records co-founder Stein, who also signed the Talking Heads, and the Ramones, died on Sunday (2 April) aged 80. He had been treated for cancer.
On Monday (3 April), Madonna wrote that she was “weeping” as she shared a photo series of her and Stein over the years, writing how she was “eternally grateful” for him taking a chance on her.
“Seymour Stein Has Left Us! I need to catch my breath,” she wrote. “He was one of the most influential men in my life!! He changed and shaped my world.”
Madonna recalled the first time she was offered an introduction to meet Stein, saying: “I couldn’t get the words: ‘Hell yes!’ out of my mouth fast enough!

When Madonna first met Seymour Stein back in the Eighties, it was under unusual circumstances. Normally, when a record label executive expresses interest in a budding, early-career artist, meetings about their future and potential partnership in the industry take place in glossy high-rise buildings. But an eager 24-year-old Madonna met the Sire Records founder, who died Sunday at age 80, while he was propped up in a hospital bed.
Madonna recalled their first meeting in a moving tribute post shared one day after Stein’s death.

Unpleasant to look at, with a chatbot-level script and phoned-in voiceovers, film-makers can’t get away with shovelling out this kind of thing
You may find yourself, as Talking Heads might have said, watching this animated feature about dead yet ambulatory mummified ancient Egyptians capering about some weird version of London. And you may ask yourself, not only how did you get here when the oracle warned you not to go, but what did you do in a past life to deserve this?
You may also ask yourself all sorts of questions about the simple logic of this very poorly written and ill-considered film. Such as: why do the mummy characters look like regular humans most of the time except in certain kinds of light which make them look like trick-or-treaters wearing bad skeleton makeup? How did they magically get back from our world to their underworld land of the...

Here we go again...! A24 is planning a special 4K restoration re-release of this documentary Stop Making Sense, from Jonathan Demme and first released in 1984. Widely considered one of these best concert docs ever made, setting a precedent that others follow in its footsteps, this classic is getting another chance to shine. "If the suit still fits... This year, we're bringing Demme's groundbreaking 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense (newly remastered in 4K!) back to theaters worldwide." The live performance was shot over three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre in December of 1983, and features such memorable Talking Heads songs as "Burning Down the House," "Life During Wartime," "Take Me to the River," "Psycho Killer" and "Once in a Lifetime." The Talking Heads released a statement as well: "There was a band. There was a concert. This must be the movie!" The band broke up in 1991 and played briefly at...

There are concert films, and then there's Jonathan Demme's "Stop Making Sense," incorporating footage from the final shows of Talking Heads' 1983 "Speaking in Tongues" tour. There are only a handful of concert documentaries that even come close to the intense brilliance of "Stop Making Sense," among them Martin Scorsese's "The Last Waltz," Saul Swimmer's "The Concert for Bangladesh," and Spike Lee's "David Byrne's American Utopia." Now, 40 years after the concert and 39 years after the film released, A24 will be bringing "Stop Making Sense" back to theaters with a glorious 4K restoration, which is just about the best news for music fans because it's the ultimate concert movie.
"Stop Making Sense" takes the concert experience and gives audiences a closer look at the performances without ever showing the behind-the-scenes magic that makes those performances come alive. While many concert docs focus on personal turmoil in the...

After sweeping the 95th Academy Awards with seven monumental wins for Everything Everywhere All At Once, A24 plans to release the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense in 4K for a theatrical release! Director Jonathan Demme’s first concert film is my favorite concert experience ever captured on film. The phenomenal performance by the Talking Heads changed how I listen to music. I’ll never forget the first time I watched Stop Making Sense on my way to All Tomorrow’s Parties 2008, curated by My Bloody Valentine.

In the upcoming season of Bates Motel, we’ll get our first look at the infamous basement from Psycho, as TV Guide reports. Norman will use it to practice his taxidermy in there.
Bates Motel
Among the revelations in book about Rupert Murdoch is that Fox News paid people to post comments favorable to Fox News in articles about the right wing channel. I guess that explains the times I’ve seen comments complaining that we haven’t acknowledged that Greta Van Susteren is like super-duper liberal.
Syfy has ordered a sixth season of Face Off, along with two specials. One special will be a countdown of the judges’ favorite works while the other will basically bridge Face Off with Syfy’s upcoming body painting show, Naked Vegas.
CBS is developing Nicky a comedy that would star Nick Zano and take inspiration from Zano growing up in a home with seven female family members.

Supernatural Photos: Dean Heads Back in Time in Episode 7.12
The January return of Supernatural brought us devastating news and confirmed Bobby's death once and for all. Those of you (including myself) who were holding out a shred of hope that the elder hunter may have somehow survived - or lapsed into a coma - had to deal with the reality of his death. Although, I'm fairly certain there's a piece of Bobby still floating around.
As for the Winchesters...they were grieving their father figure's death in brooding and obsessive fashion. Dean is determined to take down Dick Roman now and, with Frank's help, was able to find a small clue that could eventually lead to their plans, although we're not yet sure what the leviathans' plan actually is. At the end of the episode, both Sam and Dean seemed determined to soldier on, despite the fact that there seems...

If it's bad news that Dimension (aka Bob Weinstein) wants a third Halloween movie and wants it in less than a year and wants it in 3-D, then it is significantly better news that possibly the best candidate is coming forward to direct it.
Patrick Lussier, who made the splatteringly good horror flick My Bloody Valentine is the odds-on favorite to win the job, taking over for Rob Zombie. Fangoria reports that Lussier would write and direct, and since his Valentine was the best use of the new 3-D I've seen in a live action film, then it's a choice that's almost too good for the especially bad Halloween series.

One man to not truly break through the 1980s stigma and revamp his career is Eric Stoltz. James Spader did a heck of a job with it, now being smarmy fun on Boston Legal, as did the likes of Jon Cryer, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, and more. But then again, even Stoltz's '80s classics, Mask and Some Kind of Wonderful, were drowned by the likes of Molly Ringwald and her swarm of teen romances, so it's not like he ever had a bit spotlight.
Stoltz remains a bit on the outside, but still working as hard as ever. He's got a bit of a role in Milk, and now Variety reports that he's joining a wartime indie drama called Fort McCoy. Along with the likes of Brendan Fehr, Camryn Manheim, Lyndsy Fonseca, Seymour Cassel, and Kate Connor, Stoltz is nestled in Wisconsin shooting the true story, based on a script from Connor.
