Aloha, Moana. (The hello kind.)
Disney released a teaser trailer (below) for “Moana 2” on Wednesday. Our princess of Motunui is still out there voyaging, still drumming with her dead ancestors, still battling coconuts — it honestly just looks like additional “Moana” footage. That’s not automatically a bad thing. Also, it’s not yet the trailer trailer, so we’ll cut it a break — especially considering the feature film’s own origin story.
“Moana 2” was originally planned as a Disney+ series. Well, upgrade. Now a proper sequel, “Moana 2” welcomes back Auli’i Cravalho (as Moana), Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, and Temuera Morrison as Chief Tai.
Also an “upgrade” is Maui’s “boat snack” — the pig, Pua, has joined Heihei the chicken on Moana’s boat. Johnson gets the big joke of the teaser trailer: “Bacon and eggs!?! Why didn’t you bring the pig last time?...

If you are looking for some Disney Crocs, we have some new choices for you based on “Toy Story” characters. Two designs are for kid and one is for adults. Of course, I would not recommend wearing these on any escalators, especially the infamous Croc-eating one at Epcot’s The Land pavilion.
Let’s take a look! Kids “Toy Story” Woody Crocs – $54.99
Sizes 11 – 3 are available.
“Your young sheriff will look very arresting in these Woody clogs by Crocs! Inspired by the outfit worn by the cowboy from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, these colorful Crocs feature a bold design that includes vinyl Jibbitz charms of Woody’s sheriff’s badge and hat!

Pixar was hit with layoffs on Tuesday as approximately 175 employees, or 14% of its workforce, were let go.
In a note to staff, Pixar president Jim Morris said that individuals who have been impacted by the layoffs will be notified on Tuesday. “Calendar invites to speak with a leader have already gone out to those individuals, and we anticipate we will have connected with everyone impacted by the end of the day,” he wrote.
Pixar employees have been bracing for layoffs since January, but cuts were smaller than the speculated 20% reduction that was reported at the time.

The report should serve as a wake-up call to streamers who take younger audiences for granted, especially as they continue to add live sports.
Could an avalanche of new sports deals for streaming platforms be coming? The floodgates certainly seem to have opened, as more and more streaming providers like Disney+, Prime Video, and even Netflix are adding live sports content to their on-demand services. But is this what future generations of audiences want? A new report from the Financial Times cites two surveys that indicate that Gen Z viewers aren’t watching live sports at anywhere near the level of older generations, and that means streaming services will have to get more creative to bring in younger customers in a future where sports are increasingly found on digital platforms.
Key Details: One survey shows that only 31% of viewers aged 18-24 watched a live sporting event in 2023. Only 53% of Gen Zers identify as sports fans,...

Actor-director John Krasinski’s animated tale of an anxious tween and her make-believe buddies is not in Pixar’s league, but it boasts a heartfelt sweetness and an engaging young star
What if imaginary friends didn’t vanish into the murk of forgotten memories as soon as the child who conjured them grew up? What if the invisible bestie lingered on, trying hard not to be wounded by the rejection and waiting in vain to be of use once more? If that sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The central premise of American actor-director John Krasinski’s If – his first family film after the horror movie double of A Quiet Place and its sequel – is borrowed from several Pixar films.
There’s an obvious parallel with the subplot of Bing Bong in Inside Out. A heartbreakingly cheerful pink cat/elephant/dolphin mashup in a too-small top hat, Bing Bong...

For years many fans of Pixar films have become familiar with a particular voice in their movies. That voice is actor and comedian John Ratzenberger. While many growing up in the 1980s remember him as Cliff Calvin on the popular sitcom Cheers, children from the mid-1990s to the late 2010s have heard his voice in other places.
Starting in the 1995 animated film Toy Story as Hamm the piggy bank, the actor went on to appear in 23 films for the animation studio. He was P.T. Flea in A Bug’s Life, Yeti in Monsters Inc., The Underminer in The Incredibles, Mack the Truck in Cars, and many more. In essence he became the Stan Lee of Pixar.
However, in recent years, he has been noticeably absent. His last vocal appearance was in 2020’s Onward as Fennwick the Cyclops. There was apparently a cameo in 2020’s Soul, but it was more...

If being hilarious is a crime, then, Adam Sandler would be the guiltiest man alive. The actor is just one of those rare comedic talents giving back-to-back hits, which make the audience laugh their heads off. Throughout his stellar acting career, Sandler has done a ton of films, but his most popular film would be Happy Gilmore.

Despite the low score on the Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is considered to be one of the best films of the actor’s career. To make things more interesting, Netflix has announced a sequel to the 1996 film. However, major concern looms around the film as fans believe none of the actors could replace the legendary actors from their iconic roles.

It’s no secret that sequel films typically send people running to movie theater seats. They’re a safe bet for a studio like Walt Disney — if audiences loved an original film, they’re sure to enjoy a new adventure with the same charismatic characters and the addition of some new ones (preferably one that can be turned into profitable theme park plushies). For better or worse, Disney has boarded the sequel train and doesn’t seem to be hopping off anytime soon. For the next solid three years, the studio has multiple sequel projects slated to drop — ranging anywhere between the second and fifth film of a franchise. While it can be nice to revisit fan-favorite universes like ‘Avatar’ and ‘Toy Story,’ there’s also a major demand for Disney to return to their original storytelling roots. Walt Disney himself was incredibly opposed to sequels, saying he always had...

In the early scenes of his new fantasy film geared to families, John Krasinski is seen as a 12-year-old girl’s father who’s in the hospital preparing for what seems to be life-threatening heart surgery. To keep up his daughter’s spirits, he delivers elaborate jokes and comedy routines, leading her to complain that he needn’t bother, that she’s not a child anymore. In other words, she thinks he’s trying too hard, which is something you could also say about If.
There’s no denying the ambition and thoughtfulness on display in this effort written and directed by Krasinski, which marks a notable stylistic turn from his smash hit horror films A Quiet Place and its sequel. If, whose title means “Imaginary Friends,” aims for obvious laughs with its multitude of amusing computer-animated characters featuring all sorts of incarnations from teddy bears to melting marshmallows. John Krasinski proudly makes movies for and about the whole family. Maybe his vastly successful “A Quiet Place” franchise, with all its screechy monsters, is too much for youngsters to handle. But there’s still an undeniable, innocent loveliness to those movies, with warm moments that lean closely into the bonds of an adoring family that only grow stronger in the face of danger and despair.
So it’s perhaps no surprise that Krasinski’s latest sets its sights on a tale that this time is genuinely for kids, and not just their parents. There are no bloodthirsty brutes in the live action-animation hybrid “If,” a sweetly old-fashioned yet messily conjured children’s tale that sadly falls short of its thematic ambitions. Instead, it has oddly endearing creatures that represent a child’s wild imagination, overeager to show up and save the day for the people who envisioned them once upon a time,...

After pioneering feature length computer animated features with "Toy Story," Pixar Animation became the gold standard for the medium. But it wasn't just because of the innovative animation style providing a new palette for storytelling. Like the many Walt Disney Animation movies that came in the decades before Pixar rose to prominence, the filmmakers at Pixar had a knack for finding the perfect voices for their characters. Whether it was Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear or Patton Oswalt as Remy in "Ratatoiulle," Pixar has always let the perfect voices shine in their work, even if they don't come from the biggest stars. That's especially true with "Inside Out."
In "Inside Out," a stellar ensemble came together to voice the core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Amy Poehler delivered boundless exuberance and enthusiasm as Joy, Phyllis Smith brought an adorable melancholy to Sadness,...

The Anaheim City Council gave final approval today to DisneylandForward, the $1.9 billion, Disney’s multi-decade expansion plan for Walt’s original park. Today’s 7-0 procedural vote came after a unanimous vote approving the project in April. The zoning and other changes laid out by the plan to take effect in 30 days.
Those changes include zoning that will allow mixed use development where it does not exist now. The proposal allows the redeployment of some 57 acres of parking and unused land. Artists’ renderings of the plans provided by Disney, while conceptual, show one major development to the west of the current parks near the Disneyland Hotel and another to the southeast of California Adventure. Both plots are currently dedicated mostly to parking.
That would allow theme park attractions alongside hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive. See rendering below.

Bob Iger wants you to marvel more at his Marvel films and series. To make them better, he’s making fewer.
On Tuesday, the Disney CEO said Marvel is going to decrease its volume to “probably about two TV series a year” and 2-3 movies annually.
“We’ve been working hard with the studio to reduce output and focus on quality,” Iger said on Disney’s fiscal second quarter (Q2) earnings call. “That’s particularly true with Marvel.”
“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two— a maximum of three,” he continued.
Cool, so what you got? Iger said Marvel has “a couple of good films in [2025], and then we’re heading to more ‘Avengers,’ which we’re extremely excited about.”

Indie Sales has acquired Japanese director Momoko Seto’s “Dandelion’s Odyssey,” an ecological fable animated by Guionne Leroy (“Toy Story”) and scored by Nicolas Becker (“Sound of Metal”) and Quentin Sirjacq.
Shot from Japan to Iceland, “Dandelion’s Odyssey” is an adventure set in a dystopian world and is reminiscent of “Microcosmos,” with plants and animals as the main characters. The feature boasts a mix of timelapse photography, as well as live-action shooting and 3D animation. Most of the production is being done in France, where Seto is based. Seto is best known for her shorts “Planet A,” “Planet Z” and “Planet ∑,” which played at Locarno and the Berlin Film Festival, respectively.
“Dandelion’s Odyssey” is produced by Miyu Productions and Ecce Films, and co-produced by Arte Cinéma and U Media in Belgium. It received the support of the French Gan Cinema Foundation.

Pixar has given the world some of the most successful animated films of all time. Near the top of the list is 2009’s Up. One of the most iconic parts of the movie is the main character’s house, which is able to fly up into the air thanks to thousands of helium balloons tied to the roof.
Fans love recreations of their favorite things from movies in the real world. But this time, things might have gone a bit too far. Have you ever stopped to marvel at the wonders human talent can achieve? Take Tom Hanks’ example, whose popularity stems from his roles in major blockbusters like Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, and Saving Private Ryan, making him one of Hollywood’s top actors. Tom Hanks has played a hero multiple times, whether in Captain Phillips or as Woody from Toy Story. Each time, he’s managed to bring something new and meaningful to the idea of being a hero. Thus, when Clint Eastwood approached Tom Hanks, proposing that he take on the role of Sully, the real-life hero who safely landed a plane on the Hudson River in 2009, Hanks found himself pausing before making a decision, in the 2016 film.

But then Eastwood hit him with just three words that sealed the deal. And that decision turned out to be a major highlight in Hanks’ already impressive career.

Did you know there are only two perfect horror movies? Or that there are only two perfect sci-fi films? At least, that's what Rotten Tomatoes would have you believe. The great arbiter of our collective cinematic taste has bestowed the hallowed 100% Tomatometer rating on just a handful of films across cinema history, and the result of this incessant ranking of art has apparently left us with two perfect "Toy Story" movies and just a single perfect "Godzilla" film. What a world.
Anyway, for whatever reason, Rotten Tomatoes scores remain consistently alluring to us all, even showing up on our streaming interfaces and instantly deciding for us whether a movie is worth a watch. Now, it's time to put cinematic legend and Hollywood hero Charlie Chaplin under the microscope and see how this giant of the industry can stand up to the mighty Tomatometer.

The best things come in threes, especially stories. In Western nations, we like a three-act structure in which we set a status quo, watch our heroes fall, and then see them return to greatness. Some of these stories cannot be held within a single movie. For those epics, those monumental narratives, the movie trilogy was born. Trilogies represent some of the best that cinema has to offer, movies that changed the culture and the art form. The trilogy might vary in quality from film to film, but together these three films tell a story that cannot be ignored.
Before we get too far, let’s lay out our criteria. The trilogies chosen here are those intended to be a trilogy, either from the outset or by the end of the third film. Thus we’re including things such as the Toy Story and Indiana Jones trilogies, even though those continued on with further entries.

Disney’s and Pixar’s movies are full of easter eggs, which are a popular way of entertaining fans, as they are not just looking for them, but are also interpreting them and the meaning of their presence in the work. Such easter eggs are present in other works as well, not just movies, but this discussion is about a very special easter egg that potentially connects two big franchises created by Pixar.
The first one is Toy Story, which basically launched Pixar into orbit and became a critically acclaimed and beloved animated franchise with a fifth installment on the way, while the second one is Monsters, Inc., a very popular series as well which managed to become a standalone franchise with some beloved moments and characters. And while Pixar has never officially connected any of its individual animated universes, some fans think that a Monsters, Inc. easter egg confirms...

It’s been almost seven years since Cars 3 was released in theaters, and back then, most fans were dead sure that a Cars 4 update was coming soon. When it comes to complex and challenging roles that require submitting oneself fully to the process, few actors can claim to have achieved what Tom Hanks has. The two-time Oscar winner is synonymous with some of the most iconic characters in films like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Cast Away, and many more that have showcased his prowess as a performer.

Hanks is also famously known for voicing the iconic cowboy toy, Woody, in Pixar’s animated masterpiece Toy Story, a franchise that pioneered a whole new revolution in Hollywood. Having played the cult character over 4 films, The Terminal star wholeheartedly welcomed the opportunity to reprise his role in a possible 5th installment, but under certain mandates.

Tim Allen is returning to ABC in a new comedy [*Tool man grunt*]. The Toy Story star is a veteran of the network, having starred in the popular 90s series Home Improvement for eight seasons, then coming back as the lead in another sitcom, Last Man Standing, which had a run of nine seasons. Last Man Standing had concluded its last season in 2021 and Allen will now be starring in a new show with the current working title Shifting Gears. The series will be written by Mike Scully, veteran writer of The Simpsons and Parks and Rec, along with his wife Julie Thacker Scully, who has also written for The Simpsons.
According to Deadline, Allen will also be joined by fellow sitcom vet Kat Dennings. Dennings would star in the CBS show Two Broke Girls, which would run for six seasons. Dennings is also on board as a producer for Shifting Gears. The plot according to Deadline says,...

Disney has seemingly shifted its release schedule around again. Now we have some updated release dates for several upcoming Disney Films, including ‘Toy Story 5,’ ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ ‘Tron: Ares,’ and the live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’ (which seems redundant at this point.)
The release dates are now as follows:
‘Tron: Ares’ will be released next year on Oct. 10, 2025. The Jared Leto-led film is currently in production.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be released on May 22, 2026.
‘Toy Story 5’ will be released on June 19, 2026.
The live-action version of ‘Moana’ will now be released on July 10, 2026, instead of June 27, 2025. This move is likely due to the hastily announced ‘Moana 2’ coming later this year.
Disney CEO Bob Iger recently indicated that Disney was going to cancel some film and streaming projects to reduce output and focus on quality over quantity. To stop the box office losses, Disney is also doubling...

It’s been five years since Toy Story 4, the critically acclaimed fourth installment in one of Pixar’s greatest animated franchises, was released. While a sequel was announced back in February 2023 by Bob Iger, the movie is still not even close to being released, but we are happy to say that we finally have an official release date for the upcoming Toy Story 5 movie, which is set for a June 19, 2026 release. Yes, it’s a long wait, but Toy Story fans will have gotten used to it by now since the shortest span between two movies from the franchise was an enormous four years, which passed between the release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2.

In great news for fans of Baby Yoda, Buzz and Woody, and Disney princesses (as well as Disney shareholders), Disney announced a blockbuster slate of films set for release in 2026.
First up, on May 22, 2026, is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a feature expansion of the Emmy Award-winning “The Mandalorian” series that introduced the world to Baby Yoda. No word yet on whether star Pedro Pascal will appear as the title character as he’s done in the streaming series. Jon Favreau is aboard as director.
Next, on June 19, 2026, is “Toy Story 5.” Little is also known about that project but Disney boss Bob Iger revealed in 2023 that another installment of the Oscar-winning franchise was en route.
Finally, on July 10, 2026, Disney will release a live-action version of “Moana” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This is not to be confused with an animated “Moana” sequel that Disney has set for release later this year.

Woody and Buzz have a date to return to theaters. Disney will release Pixar’s Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026, the studio announced Friday.
Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced Toy Story 5 in February 2023, with the sequel an attempt to return to form for the franchise after the disappointing performance of the 2022 spinoff, Lightyear, which voice starred Chris Evans. Toy Story has spanned four mainline films dating back to 1995, with the most recent installment topping $1 billion at the box office in 2019. The features have voice starred Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
Toy Story 5‘s date with theaters was among a slew of changes and additions made to the Disney release calendar. The studio also pushing Dwayne Johnson’s live-action remake of Moana by a year to July 10, 2026 (it was previously slated for from June 27, 2025). One day after Bob Iger faced questions about Disney’s competitive position vs. Universal in the Orlando theme park game, there came more information today about a significant expansion of Walt Disney World.
Michael Hundgen, Walt Disney World site portfolio executive, said the company’s Orlando resort is undergoing “probably the largest expansion ever at Magic Kingdom,” according to a piece by CNN.
Dubbed “Beyond Big Thunder,” the project is so named because it will expand the park into a swampy, wooded area behind the current Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at one corner of the property. See photo below.

More and more sports teams and distributors are offering alternate broadcasts as the 2023-24 NHL and NBA seasons conclude.
How hard is Batman’s slapshot? Can Daffy Duck hit the five-hole? However improbable these questions seem, it appears they’re about to be answered! TNT Sports has announced that on Sunday, April 14, it will present an animated alternate broadcast of an NHL game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights. The game will feature animated characters like Bugs Bunny, Shaggy, and Superman taking the place of NHL players and mirroring their actions on the ice in real-time, and it will allow Warner Bros. After Disney declared victory in its proxy battle with activist investor Nelson Peltz, CEO Bob Iger went on a theme-park offensive during the company’s annual shareholder meeting.

It's astonishing to look back at John Lasseter's 1995 film "Toy Story" and regard how rudimentary it looks by today's standards. "Toy Story" was the first widely distributed CGI-animated feature film, and it felt overwhelmingly revolutionary at the time. Many were astonished at how expressive and fun CGI characters could be, and the film's success effectively ushered in a sea change in the animation world. In 2024, traditional cel animation is incredibly uncommon, and CGI is the naturally assumed standard.
CGI characters are designed to essentially be "puppets," in terms of their elasticity. Animators, at least at the time, were forced to stay on-model, only able to expand eyeballs or raise eyebrows so high. It wouldn't be for years that CG characters could mutate, squash, and stretch the way hand-drawn characters could. "Toy Story" benefitted from being about, well, toys. It's a testament to Disney's branding that mainstream audiences don't necessarily know who directed or starred in some of their better-known movies. Although many have seen the studio's 1950 animated feature "Cinderella," most audiences wouldn't be able to tell you that Ilene Woods played the title character, or that Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi directed the film. Disney's "Aladdin" changed that with the casting of Robin Williams as the Genie. And the trend of hiring known screen celebrities, often not voice actors, to sell an animated feature to a broad audience went to a whole other level in the wake of DreamWorks' "Shrek." The advent of the internet also helped certain actresses become known among Disney fans. Nowadays, many adults know the names of the actresses who played characters like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or Ariel the Mermaid.

Across four movies, the animated franchise has now surpassed the $2 billion mark at the box office. Over 16 years and through several enemies, Jack Black's Po has endured multiple decades to help make this one of the biggest animated movie franchises of all time. Skadoosh.
"Kung Fu Panda 4" topped the charts through its first two weekends and has, thus far, taken in $187.1 million worldwide against a very reasonable $85 million production budget -- by far the cheapest entry in the series to date. That has pushed the franchise to just over $2 billion collectively. The highest-grossing entry to date remains 2011's "Kung Fu Panda 2" with $664.8 million worldwide. Interestingly, that's also the only movie of the four that didn't open atop the charts when it debuted.

Toy Story is a classic. Whether you love it or hate it, this film put Pixar on the map. The animated studio continued to up the ante with excellent movies such as Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, or Wall-e, but the original Toy Story remains their best. Somehow, a film about the misadventures of talking toys managed to tug at the heartstrings of both kids and adults. The journey of Woody and Buzz represents the magic that films have on society. They’re supposed to be an escape from the everyday drudgery of our world. Plus, it taps into our imaginations and

Before the 2001 film year, it had always been a subject of debate in years prior as to whether the Academy Awards should create a category for animated features. That finally came to fruition with an uptick in the amount of animated movies that were released annually. Prior to the category being established, several animated films would occasionally win special prizes. Such films included “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937 (for which Walt Disney received a normal-sized Oscar and seven miniature ones), “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in 1988 and “Toy Story” in 1995. “Beauty and the Beast” also managed a major feat in 1991 when it became the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture, eventually losing to “The Silence of Lambs.” Tour our photo gallery below to see every Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature, from “Shrek” to the most recent. Pixar’s latest film arrives in June but you catch the trailer for it right here. Here’s how Inside Out 2 is looking.
Pixar has gone with a pretty straightforward title for its upcoming summer release Inside Out 2 and you know what? That’s just fine with us.
After a turbulent couple of years where Pixar saw its prestigious output stacked straight onto Disney’s streaming platform, not to mention coming in for some flak when last year’s Elemental was preemptively labelled as a flop, we just want to enjoy the beloved animation house do their thing without any fuss or fanfare. Sticking a good-old fashioned number on the end of a good old-fashioned sequel might be considered a classic example of doing just that.
The film follows in the footsteps of 2015’s Inside Out. That film won awards and made a lot of money for Pixar Animation Studios,...
