Sylvester Stallone sure has had one hell of a run with his most famous onscreen creation, Rocky Balboa. He's had a long career full of ups and downs ("Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot"), but when people look back at Stallone's contribution to cinema in 50 or 100 years' time, it will be the big-hearted slugger from Philadelphia who Sly is best remembered for.
Perhaps because of his association with the action genre and easily-spoofed screen persona, people don't always give Stallone the credit as an artist he deserves. After all, you can say what you want about the overall quality of the "Rocky" franchise, but there can be little doubt that he created one of the greatest movie characters of the 20th century. Plenty of actors are intrinsically linked with their most famous roles; just take Harrison Ford, who pulled off the feat of embodying not just one but two iconic characters,...

The Boy Who Lived is changing his U.S. streaming address again.
All eight original “Harry Potter” films from Warner Bros. are returning to HBO Max next month, after spending a little less than a year on NBCUniversal’s Peacock.
Starting Sept. 1, the eight wizarding films based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels will be available on HBO Max: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Parts 1 and 2.
When HBO Max launched in May 2020, it included the octet of “Harry Potter” movies — but that was only a three-month carve-out on streaming rights the studio had sold to NBCU. In October 2020, Peacock began streaming the “Harry Potter” movies; now WarnerMedia...

It's always heartening to see A-list Hollywood talent supporting independent features. The latest example is Jesse Eisenberg, who's red hot thanks to Zombieland (2009), and now stars in Holy Rollers (2010), a little film that will need every last bit of his emerging star power to find an audience. The drama, which was inspired by real events (in the 1990's) and won its share of praise at the Sundance Film Festival, casts Eisenberg as Sam Gold, a young Hasid from a deeply religious Orthodox Jewish section of Brooklyn, New York. Sam is supposed to be on the path to becoming a rabbi, which involves marrying a girl of his family's choosing and, in the process, taking his family to the next level financially and socially. However, Sam veers completely off the path, tasting the thrill of drug deals, the power of money, and the fast-lane life of people just over the bridge in New York City.

DreamWorks has gone barking mad for the script to – wait for it – Doggy Day Care.Written by Laurie Craig, the movie will be set in a day care for – yes! – dogs, and will show what the lovable mutts get up to when humans aren’t around to watch them. So, essentially, it’s Chewy Toy Story, with the hounds – presumably voiced by human actors – getting up to all sorts of allegedly hilarious activities. To which we shall say just one thing: does nobody remember the horror of Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Dear Lord, that film almost brought the world to the brink of war. Do we really want to risk tumbling over the precipice once more?Craig, it must be said, has form when it comes to this sort of thing – she wrote the talking parrot movie, Paulie, in 1998. She wrote the story of Doggy Day Care with two friends, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Julie Goldstein.

Scribe Laurie Craig has sold her pitch "Doggy Day Care" to DreamWorks Studios.
The comedy is about what really happens when dogs get together without human supervision. Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas ("Mona Lisa Smile") and Julie Goldstein ("Chicago"), who created the original story with Craig, are producing.
DreamWorks exec Chloe Dan brought the project to the studio.
"We were utterly charmed by the story they have crafted, and we think audiences will love it as much as we did," said DreamWorks co-president of production Holly Bario.
DreamWorks recently produced another canine-centric family film, "Hotel for Dogs," which Paramount released in January to a $113 million worldwide gross.
Craig, who is repped by Original Artists, wrote the screenplay for the DreamWorks feature "Paulie" and co-wrote "Ella Enchanted." She also co-wrote the adaptation of the Beverly Cleary book, "Ramona and Beezus," which Fox 2000 is producing for an August release.
She most recently wrote "Left Tern" for Fox Animation.

Let’s bow our heads for a moment of silence. As we learned last night, NBC snuffed out one of our favorite procedurals, the gritty, fantastically acted Southland. You’d think shoving Jay Leno down our throats for five hours of primetime would be injury enough, but no—they had to add insult. This, NBC. This is why TV viewers are dropping network for cable in ever-greater numbers. Viewers know cable offers the kind of risky, investment-heavy programming that’s rare on network television these days, and what’s better, cable will actually stick with it. Take a show like Mad Men.

Could Jesse Eisenberg, the gawky kid from Adventureland and The Squid and the Whale, be on the verge of breakout star status? I'd say yes, after watching him on last night's Conan (check out the clip after the jump). The 25-year-old did a great job of plugging his new movie Zombieland, earning big laughs from the crowd with a few of his nervous jokes. And through it all, he reminded me of some other famous people. Here's the breakdown: Woody Allen - 60% The New York accent, the nebbishy stutter, the self-deprecating zingers: all classic Allen. Michael Cera - 30% Cera and...
