Before being hailed for his shocking transformations and commendable versatility, Christian Bale started as a child actor with not many roles in his now accolade-brimming career. Thanks to one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers, the English actor soon found himself on the path to fame after being cast in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun.

Back when Christian Bale was filming the last segment in Christopher Nolan’s internationally hailed The Dark Knight trilogy, the English actor had a bizarre yet interesting encounter with the former President of the United States.

Nowadays, horror filmmakers do everything they can to surprise the viewers who are tired of standard jumpscares. Therefore, for every Annabelle, which is a typical horror film based only on gore effects and all sorts of jumpscares, there is The Babadook, which attracts with its oppressive atmosphere and psychological story.
Exactly 20 years ago, a movie was released that didn't aim to scare the viewers at all, but that's exactly what it did.

The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s sci-fi monster movie World-Breaker has just finished filming, and stars Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich.
Everything was so topsy-turvy during those 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes that when World-Breaker was announced last October, the production had a cast in place but wasn’t allowed to reveal who was starring. Months later, it’s been announced that Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich are the leads in the sci-fi monster film from director Brad Anderson.
Filming recently ended in Northern Ireland, and The Hollywood Reporter has the story that Signature Entertainment will distribute the film in the UK and Ireland. The news emerges as the Cannes Film Festival begins in earnest; production company The Exchange is hoping to find buyers for World-Breaker’s international and US rights at the festival’s busy market.

Milla Jovovich returns to the genre she knows so well with World Breaker. She stars opposite Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold. Brad Anderson is in the director’s chair for this science-fiction film. Many actors would love to portray James Bond, yet there is a specific casting process that must be adhered to and not everybody is willing to play the role. For example, Christian Bale turned down the role of James Bond early in the new millennium.
Ian Fleming created the prominent British secret agent in 1953, and he has since been featured in 12 novels and two collections of short stories. Despite having a readership of their own, James Bond’s cinematic adaptations helped popularize the character on a large scale.
Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises
Following the expiration of Pierce Brosnan’s contract, Bale, the British actor, was deemed one of the best candidates to portray James Bond due to his acclaimed appearance. Unexpectedly, The Dark Knight star rejected the role—which has historically only been given to British actors—because he felt it promoted negative stereotypes about the country.

The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is Aspyr’s latest attempt at bringing a classic video game experience into the modern age. This time around, the studio is taking us back 20 years, to 2004. It was an era of Christian Bale starving himself for The Machinist, Green Day calling out the American Idiots in charge of running the US, and Pandemic delivering a Star Wars gaming experience that was lightyears ahead of its time. The good old days before the Disney/EA chokehold on all things Star Wars.

If you are looking for something that looks like it was released last week that simultaneously manages to capture that sweet noughties nostalgia, then you may be left disappointed. This is really something special. A movie that resonates with me to such a degree that it is etched upon all that I love within the genre. It feels like a twisted take on a certain Marvel hero who loves to show off his patriotism—and love for his country—through blood, bullets, and even a bar brawl. All he was missing was a vibranium shield. This film involves a charismatic, stone-cold stoic, and reserved antagonist that you sometimes cheer for, even if he has a bloodlust towards innocent bystanders. I would like to defend myself by saying that it’s not just a cult-classic, but a bona fide, badass flick that displays multiple elements of thriller, comedy, action, and horror. It gels together so damn well, that you can’t believe it’s not butter. Today we’re discussing Adam Wingard’s 2014, stranger-danger film, The Guest (watch it Here...

When it comes to pushing the limits physically and mentally for a role, it is difficult to look past Christian Bale. The British actor is not just known for his memorable performances on screen, but also for his extreme modes of preparation that he adopts to get into the skin of his characters. From resorting to brutal diets for his roles in American Psycho and The Fighter to sacrificing sleep to play an insomniac in The Machinist, Bale has done it all for the love of his craft.

More recently, the Oscar winner was seen in Thor: Love and Thunder in another transformative role as Gorr the God Butcher. Every comic book fan as well as a movie buff who is well-versed in their area of expertise will collectively agree that when filmmaker Christopher Nolan created The Dark Knight trilogy, it was something truly special in regards to a superhero film. Even after more than a decade since its conclusion, the series is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, that superhero cinema had to offer.
Anne Hathaway and Christopher Nolan on the sets of The Dark Knight Rises
One of the hands in making this series such an icon was the exceptional performance of Christian Bale as the titular protagonist. But at the same time, Nolan had little faith in the appeal of the star when he would pitch him to WB for the sole reason that he didn’t look the part, especially since he had just dropped almost all of his weight for his then-upcoming film The Machinist.

After all the trials and misses, Marvel Cinematic Universe might finally be heading in the right direction, bringing back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool to the big screen with one of the most anticipated Marvel releases since Avengers: Endgame.
Wolverine’s return to the MCU means a lot, not only for the franchise but for Hugh Jackman as well. Everything is going how it actually should. But years back, the Australian star had prepared a contingency plan if things wouldn’t go as he wanted them to, with none other than Christian Bale.

When Makeup Artists Mocked Christian Bale For His Low Salary In American Psycho (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Christian Bale is known for his method of acting and is one of the finest actors of this era. He has given many fantastic performances throughout his career, and some of his movies or nuances have found their places in pop culture. For example, his character Patrick Bateman in the 2000 horror crime American Psycho is still seen in several social media memes and GIFs. It is one of the British actor’s most notable performances, but the paycheck he received for it was the bare minimum.
Bale has always been known for his acting chops, and his collaboration with directors like Christopher Nolan led to some blockbuster movies that were both critically and commercially successful. As cinephiles look on to what is anticipated to be an amazing year in film and television, it’s almost unbelievable that two decades have passed since the release of certain 2004 movies. 2004 was packed with several exciting, high box-office-earning sequels, first installments, and standalone films. Most notably, the year presented several blockbusters in several genres. Interestingly, memorable movies like Starsky & Hutch, You Got Served, The Prince & Me, White Chicks, King Arthur, Man on Fire, The Machinist, Catwoman, Kung Fu Hustle, and Hotel Rwanda were all released in 2004. Although 2004 may seem a distant past to a...

One need only glance at the leading men and women of any given era to see Hollywood's perennial beauty standards. Most actors will know the pressure of keeping fit and aesthetic, especially after the mainstreaming of gym and fitness culture in the late 20th century. Take Superman, for example. Christopher Reeve was a tall and athletic man, but compared to Henry Cavill's cast iron physique, his rangy costume looks slightly pedestrian. It's not all about "looking good," of course. Some actors have drastically changed their bodies to better portray their characters, such as Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull," Christian Bale in "The Machinist," Matthew McConaughey in "Dallas Buyers Club," and Tom Hanks in "Cast Away."
Still, "looking good" is a prerequisite for many actors, and they often must obey the wishes of producers, directors, and casting managers, who are known to ask for weight loss, dental work, and even plastic surgery.

In a big step forward for data transparency, the leading streaming platform Netflix releases total hours of viewing time for everything on its service.
One of the major criticisms of Netflix and other Silicon Valley streaming platforms over the past few years has centred upon the company’s reluctance to play nice and share data with others.
Big Tech has always been renowned for data secrecy but as it has increasingly moved into the entertainment sector, that refusal to reveal information has led to conflict with the creative community who are used to seeing viewing numbers as a means of determining a film or TV series’ success, not to mention that it’s also vital in helping creators to put a dollar-figure on any subsequent work that they create.

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

Brad Anderson, a director whose credits include Session 9 and The Call, was recently hired to direct the zombie film Twilight of the Dead, which is based on a treatment left behind by the great George A. Romero when he passed away in 2017. Twilight of the Dead is expected to start filming in Puerto Rico by the end of this year – and Deadline reports that Anderson has already lined up the project he’ll be making after he works with Romero zombies. It’s a sci-fi action creature feature called Worldbreaker, which The Exchange will be presenting to potential international distributors at the upcoming American Film Market.
Scripted by Joshua Rollins (Infinite Storm), Worldbreaker has the following synopsis: Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to...

Instead of wearing a fat suit, Bale went the extra mile for his American Hustle character by putting on the weight the role required. His process for getting out of shape was a simple one, and consisted of eating as much as he could.
“I ate lots of doughnuts, a whole lot of cheeseburgers and whatever I could get my hands on. I literally ate anything that came my way,” Bale, once told People. “I was about 185 and went up to 228. I’m still working it off.”

George A. Romero, horror legend and father of the modern zombie movie, passed away in 2017. At the time of his death, he was developing the next installment in his "Dead" series: a film called "Twilight of the Dead," for which he had written a treatment with journalist and film critic Paolo Zelati. In 2021, we learned that "Twilight of the Dead" was in active development, with Romero's widow, Suzanne Romero, meeting with filmmakers to find the right director for what is being billed as George Romero's "final zombie movie."
Now, the filmmaker who will take on that daunting duty has been found. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Anderson will direct the movie from a script co-written by Zelati, Joe Knetter, and Robert Lucas. Anderson's previous directing credits are primarily horror movies and psychological thrillers, with his best-known work being a combination of the two genres: "Session 9," a...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Romero had been developing one final zombie movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which has shown brief signs of life here and there over the years. The film is finally coming to life, The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this morning, with Brad Anderson on board to direct!
“Shooting is expected to start later this year,” THR notes in their exclusive report.
“George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead may have been the first real horror movie I ever saw and its shock value, its keen social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all hugely inspirational to me,” said Anderson. “This too is a zombie movie in which limbs fly and heads roll, but one that is also about social transformation, one that asks the question: What is it to be human? Everyone knows the story of Goldilocks and the three bears, wherein a girl isn't satisfied with the things she discovers until they're "just right." This concept has permeated a number of disparate fields, even making it into scientific circles where the "Goldilocks principle" is used as a measure of balance.
Apparently the "Goldilocks principle" applies to the Dark Knight, too. When it comes to portraying the superhero known as Batman, there seems to be a particular physique and shape that is, as Goldilocks would say, "just right." Hitting that physique, however, is easier said than done, as actor Christian Bale came to discover while attempting to mold his body in preparation for director Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." Through a distinct amount of effort and a lot of trial and error, it took Bale more than one try to make himself into the Caped Crusader, leading to a minor crisis behind the scenes.

To properly portray the physically and mentally disturbed character, Bale slimmed down to 121 pounds. To achieve this feat, Bale once told Radio Free he put himself on a diet where he ate practically nothing.

Christopher Nolan is a director who seems to like bringing actors with him from one movie to the next. Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anne Hathaway got roles in multiple consecutive Nolan films, and legendary British thespian Michael Caine has gotten many brief appearances as well. Still, there are few actors who have worked with him as often as Cillian Murphy. It's a partnership that started with the 2005 film "Batman Begins," Nolan's notably serious and gritty reboot of the "Batman" film franchise.
Many decisions were made to distinguish that movie from what had come before with the series. Nolan and company dispensed with the over-the-top and stagebound Gotham of Tim Burton's 1989 film or the cartoony villains rendered in campy glory in Joel Schumacher's oft-criticized "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" for this iteration of the character. There’s no question that Christian Bale is one of the top actors of this era of film. When he joins a movie, the producers know he’s a major audience draw and pay him accordingly. But earlier in his career — specifically, in the American Psycho days — that was decidedly not the case.
That isn’t to say that Bale was seen as untalented. Even when he was a fresh-faced young actor in movies like the 1987 war film Empire of the Sun and the 1992 musical Newsies, his abilities as a performer were obvious. But that critical praise wasn’t enough to get an oddball project like American Psycho off the ground.

It's no secret that Christian Bale takes his roles seriously. So seriously, that he'll commit to massive weight changes to help get into character — a practice he said he's finished with as of 2019. The actor famously shed almost all his body fat to play the sleep-deprived 121-pound protagonist of "The Machinist" before bulking up to 240 pounds to take on the role of the Dark Knight in 2005's "Batman Begins." Since then he's fluctuated in weight with every role he's taken. Bale once again packed on the pounds to play Dick Cheney in 2018's "Vice," then immediately dropped 40 pounds to play British racing driver Ken Miles in "Ford v Ferrari" — prompting his co-star Matt Damon to praise his "monk-like discipline."
And his commitment to roles extends beyond weight fluctuations. For 2022's "Amsterdam," Bale became a bit of a stalker after seeing a man on the street whose movements he wanted to...

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.

But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

When he saw how people avoided this bodybuilder, something clicked: “You have an individual who is both feared and invisible — because of everyone around him. And I thought it was a really peculiar way for someone to move through the world.”
That was the genesis of Magazine Dreams, the new feature that debuted at Sundance last month and took home the creative vision jury prize. It is earning rave reviews for Jonathan Majors,...
