There’s no news when we say that the whole world is literally obsessed with some American sitcoms, like Friends, The Office, Parks and Rec, and many more. These shows are on almost everybody’s rewatch: all of us just choose a number 1 series and turn them into a comfort show we watch on every occasion.
However, after Schitt's Creek just arrived, it was clear that Canadian TV has a lot to offer as well. The show is so hilarious and well-written it makes you wonder what else there is in the national store.
So here we have 5 best Canadian sitcoms to check out after you are done (for a while) with Schitt's Creek.
1. Trailer Park Boys (2001-2018)
Well, we couldn't start with anything less iconic, so the choice for the first series in the list was pretty obvious. Trailer Park Boys is a follow-up show that was created after...

Legacy U.S. shows such as The Office and Friends remain popular in Asia, but interest in American content is on the wane in the region, a new study shows.
Media Partners Asia (MPA)’s latest report show U.S. content maintained a lead among SVOD users, with 60% viewing it in Q1 of 2024, ahead of Korean titles (56%) and Japanese originals (48%). However, the figure for U.S. content was 70% two years ago in the same period, highlighting how local content, especially in Korea and Japan, are driving viewing.
Notably, in Korea, engagement with U.S. content was just 9%. In Japan, it was 11%. Conversely, engagement was up at 69% in English-speaking Australia and relatively strong in Southeast Asia (32%). Despite the low engagement, MPA Lead Analyst Dhivya T said that “even in highly local markets such as Korea, Japan and Indonesia, U.S. content drove 15-30% of SVOD customer acquisition.”

Study: U.S. Films, Series Remain Most Powerful Content Category for Global Streamers in Asia Pacific
Even in challenged times, no national entertainment industry can flex quite like Hollywood. According to new research from regional advisory group Media Partners Asia, U.S. films and series remain the most important content category for global streamers when it comes to customer acquisition and engagement across the Asia Pacific region — regardless of the way platforms continue to ramp up their local-language offerings in these territories.
In the first quarter of 2024, U.S. content was viewed by 60 percent of subscription video users in nine major markets — Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand — outperforming Korean titles (at 56 percent) and Japanese content (48 percent), according to new research from regional analysts Media Partners Asia (MPA). The report’s authors noted, however, that U.S. content’s reach has begun to wane in recent years.

U.S-produced film and TV content has maintained leadership in terms of reach among Subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) users in nine major markets in Asia-Pacific. And it remains important for acquiring and maintaining subscriptions, a new report finds.
New research from consultancy firm Media Partners Asia is based on passively-collected data from 40,000 digital users amassed by its Ampd sister company. Territories covered include Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, from May 2023 to April 2024.

Steve Carell will not be starring in the new iteration of “The Office” coming to Peacock, but he did encourage Domhnall Gleeson to sign on to star. The two actors acted together in FX’s 2022 limited series “The Patient,” which earned Carell a Screen Actors Guild award nomination. Gleeson, meanwhile, was nominated at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
“I know Domhnall Gleeson – who I did ‘The Patient’ with – is going to be one of the leads. Steve Carell is a Swiftie extraordinaire!
The actor-comedian revealed this week he met the global superstar early on in both of their careers, when they both appeared on MTV’s Trl.
“We were both on Trl at the same time,” Carell said during Monday’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I met her, sort of in passing, and I thought, ‘She seems special,’ like even back then,” Carell continued. “Very sweet, very nice. Just had a really nice first impression.”
Years later, The Office star continued, he saw a video of Swift playing the guitar for a hospital patient.
“Some kid who was recovering from something,” Carell said. “There was no big crew. It was like a really low-key, handheld thing that she sort of just did on the sly.”
He added that he thought “that’s so cool and not publicized. Just leading with her heart.

It’s official, The Office co-creator Greg Daniels has confirmed that the classic series will make its return to television. However, this is a full reboot (which is wise), so the new adaptation won’t be a recast of Michael, Jim, Dwight, Pam, or the old office crew. It also won’t revisit the stories of these iconic characters that warmed the hearts of audiences for nine seasons. Though this is a loose reboot of the original series, can a new version of The Office work in modern culture? It’s smart that Greg Daniels isn’t going anywhere near the original series because the...

As production continues on the second season of Peacemaker, we have word on two new additions to the cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad spin-off series.
THR reports that Picard's Sol Rodriguez and The Office actor David Denman have both signed on in supporting roles, and at least one of them will play an established DC Comics character.
While details on Denman's role are being kept under wraps, Rodriguez has been cast as Sasha Bordeaux, who made her debut as a Batman ally back in 2000’s Detective Comics No. 751.
First introduced as a young martial artist who is hired as Bruce Wayne's bodyguard by Lucius Fox, The Dark Knight actually trained Bordeaux as his new apprentice before she was framed for the murder of Vesper Fairchild and sent to prison. She later joined forces with the government agency known as Checkmate.

A "Star Trek" actor is jumping (star)ship to another major franchise, in a development that's sure to be of interest to DC superhero fans. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Sol Rodriguez, most well known for starring in several episodes of "Star Trek: Picard" season 2 as Doctor Teresa Ramirez during the storyline set in present-day Los Angeles, has been cast in season 2 of yet another streaming series. Rodriguez is reportedly set to join James Gunn's "Peacemaker" show, which is currently in the midst of production after taking a bit of a lengthy break as a result of Gunn's busy schedule and, of course, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that shut down the industry last year.
As for which character she'll be portraying? That's none other than fan-favorite DC icon Sasha Bordeaux, a figure so famous and popular that I've never actually heard of her until now.

While viewers curse streaming platforms for canceling shows too early and not giving them another chance, they are just as quick to drop the entire series based on the impressions of the pilot episode. Although understandable, sometimes this logic deprives people of watching some of the best shows.
Here are 8 TV shows that redditors of the r/television subreddit dropped after watching only the pilot, but then picked up and grew to love.
Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)
Like most sitcoms, the pilot was just the writers testing the waters. It set up a backstory, put the characters in their niches, and was released with the hope that the show would hit the right spots for all genre fans. Fortunately, the brilliant cast and the talent of Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, were enough to get the show off the ground.

Movies and television have often had a push-pull relationship. When brands and intellectual properties became king near the start of the 21st century, TV became the place to go for creatives who wanted to tell bold and original stories to a mainstream audience. In contrast, the social revolutions of the 1960s saw networks burying their heads in the sand, serving up a buffet of conservative-leaning sitcoms where just about everybody was white, straight, and Christian, nobody had sex or cursed, and things like the Civil Rights Movement or the Vietnam War might as well be happening on Neptune. Meanwhile, the pictures swung in the opposite direction; the rise of New Hollywood meant that the escapist studio fare of yore was no longer fashionable.

Summer Game Fest had a ton of excellent reveals, but perhaps one of the most bizarre trailers belonged to Skate, the upcoming Electronic Arts, commonly known as EA, game about, well, skating.
Mostly, EA has changed its Skate-related socials to M-Corp, the company responsible for bringing hope and success to the fictional city of San Vansterdam. The true bizarre nature of the trailer is evident as soon as its documentary-style preview, similar to that of The Office, starts.
EA Gives an Update on Skate in the Most Unconventional Way Imaginable
The video starts in an office space, documenting the state of the workplace and how it promises to bring success to the city of San Vansterdam. The humorous trailer is filled to the brim with well-timed sarcasm, particularly about the office’s workplace.
Rumors have been going around about M-Corp’s toxic work environment, and Tim Robinson, who you may know from Saturday Night Live,...

Tom Bower, the veteran character actor best known for prominent turns on The Waltons and in Die Hard 2, has died. A family member confirmed the news to Deadline’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter. He was 86.
Bower never had what one might call a “breakout” part, but he was an actor one recognized from, well, everywhere. His more than 180 screen credits include appearances on The Rockford Files, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order and many other TV staples of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.
And he kept on working. In the past 15 years, Bower was on Ray Donovan, Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also played the father of Bob Odenkirk’s character on Lucky Hank and had a part in Vince Gilligan’s El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie.

There are multiple offers on the table for Paramount, but the company’s three-headed ‘Office of the CEO’ has a plan if all the deals fall through.
Paramount Global is entering its seventh month of merger and acquisition discussions, and whether or not there is an end in sight remains a bit cloudy. In December, news first broke that the company had begun initial discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery about a potential combination of the two media conglomerates. Those talks came to naught, but more seriously interested parties have emerged to evaluate Paramount’s assets in the meantime. Earlier this week, the special committee established by Paramount to evaluate M&a opportunities approved a bid by Skydance Media and its owner David Ellison, but one of the company’s major shareholder has publicly expressed its disapproval of the deal. With all of the confusion over the company’s future, Paramount executives...

One of the most popular genres to ever exist, sitcoms have long ushered as the cherished favorites for many to wind down and let themselves loose in the content. The early 2000s, in particular, saw the rise of many of these shows, which soon went on to affix their place prominently in the audience’s hearts.
At a time when Friends reigned supreme on television and streaming did not yet exist, Steve Carell and his cast representing the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc. came to the spotlight with The Office.

Steve Carell’s The Office made generations of fans laugh with their simplistic but funniest portrayal of a paper company in Scranton. Neither Michael Scott nor his staff were the normal kind of office people, but the series tried to maintain the authenticity of the setting.
The Office creators resorted to one simple way to ensure this during the first few seasons. They didn’t allow any of the hair and makeup artists on the set as they wanted the actors to be in their authentic office worker roles.

When James Gunn sat to announce the projects in the first slate of the Dcu, the Lanterns series was one of the most hyped projects. Now, the latest rumors suggest that the casting for the upcoming series has started.

There’s nothing more entertaining in the world of TV than a sitcom. You can just turn on a funny ensemble cast show and just chill for several hours while the characters go on with their bizarre storylines that will definitely make you laugh.
For many of us one of the most rewatchable sitcoms has been The Big Bang Theory, but redditors suggest you pay enough attention to these 5 shows instead.
1. New Girl (2011-2018)
For fans of quirky characters, this sitcom is a perfect choice. When a young girl named Jess finds out that her boyfriend is a cheater, she has to move out and start a new life on her own. But instead – she ends up in a loft with three single guys.
Needless to say, they all have their cringeworthy traits, and together they form the most dysfunctional group you can imagine. Anyway, somehow they make it work.

Whether it’s How I Met Your Mother, Law & Order, or Gilmore Girls, everyone seems to have a comfort show. Like that one snack that always sounds good, it’s a show you know you can count on time and time again. You never really get tired of watching it, and you just feel better after indulging in an episode. But what exactly defines a comfort watch? What does a comfort show even look like in today’s streaming-dominant world?
I can understand why many people immediately associate “comfort watch” exclusively with the likes of Friends and The Office. Sitcoms like this not only provide familiarity, but also simplicity. It’s nice to imagine a world where conflicts miraculously get resolved in 30 minutes or less, there’s hardly any real, lasting consequences, and everyone sits down for a nice dinner together at the end.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming service is named Max because of the amount of premium content available, but customers may point to the rising price of the service as the true source of its name. Does the world seem like it's more complicated and confusing than it used to be?
When you look at the way people lived in previous generations, are you struck by a vague sense that you missed out on something?
Do you sometimes feel as though it just hasn't been your day, your week, your month -- or even your year?
If so, you're not alone.
This might sound like the voice-over that plays over a beach volleyball scene in a commercial for the latest magic-bullet anti-depressant, but it's actually the beginning of an attempt to understand the viewing habits of tens of millions of Netflix customers.
A Surprising Trend
You see, in most previous decades, one of the defining traits of young people was a rabid interest in all things new and innovative, often to the exclusion of anything deemed "old."
That's still the case for members of Generation Z in most areas.

With “Dancing with the Stars” set to come back for a 33rd season this fall, there’s a long list of celebrities who deserve to compete on the dance floor. Three of my past suggestions did ultimately become “DWTS” contestants: Frankie Muniz (who came in third in season 25), Kel Mitchell (who came in second in season 28), and Jamie Lynn Spears (who was the second to be eliminated last season).
