The first of the yearly made Lupin the 3rd TV movies that were made from 1989 to 2013.
Charicatures of Yasuo Otsuka, animator and Hayao Miyazaki's mentor, and Osamu Dezaki, the director of the film, briefly appear during the scene at Grand Central Station. The former appears just before Zenigata steps off the train and latter walks behind the disguised Lupin. Both men worked on the first Lupin TV series.
A video was made and released only in United Kingdom. The dub was made by Manga Entertainment of UK. It was finally released on DVD in North America by Discotek media on March, 25th 2014.
Garrick Hagon and Liza Ross, who play Goemon and his love interest Isabel (Isabella in English) respectively in the English dub, are married in real life. They had also played husband and wife in Batman (1989).
