It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sting was pitting an oversized spider against the inhabitants of an NYC apartment building. Now we have Infested, which pits the inhabitants of a French housing project against a horde of arachnids. Arachnids that the prologue implies are both deadly and in demand.
One of the people that demand comes from is Kaleb. He’s a young man trying to make a living hustling sneakers and whatever else he can make a quick profit from. It’s not exactly a thriving business, and he’s stuck living with his sister Manon in the rundown apartment they inherited from their mother. Adding to his unhappiness is a falling out with his long time friend Jordy.

Photo: ‘How I Became a Superhero’/Netflix ‘How I Became a Superhero’ is Netflix’s latest film to drop on their streaming service. It is clear superhero films are definitely in during this era of Marvel and DC universes as they continue to dominate our theaters and screens. It may be considered risky to release an unknown hero’s story with characters that are unfamiliar with common fans, but this film is up to par with the best of the best. Based on Gérald Bronner’s novel, Douglas Attal turns it into a fantastic visual experience. This week’s biggest home title doesn’t show on any VOD chart: It’s Marvel’s “Black Widow,” of course, exclusively available on Disney+ for $29.99. About 2 million of the platform’s subscribers paid for it, generating $60 million.
Unlike theater grosses, “Black Widow” PVOD revenues represent a 100 percent return to the studio. Rival studios suggest that the domestic portion ranged between 67-80 percent. On that basis, Disney would have so far earned more from PVOD than in theaters. A single weekend’s performance is not the final word for movies, theaters, or even Disney, but it suggests major implications for all concerned.
Another indication that PVOD remains a lucrative alternative to theaters is the strategy for home availability of “A Quiet Place Part II” which drops Tuesday — as planned, 45 days after its very successful theatrical release — on Paramount+. What’s surprising here is “A Quiet Place Part II” will also...

"Is it true there's a drug that gives you superpowers?" Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller titled How I Became a Super Hero, marking the feature directorial debut of French filmmaker Douglas Attal. This originally premiered at last year's Deauville Film Festival in the fall. And it's set to arrive streaming on Netflix this July. Set in Paris in a world where superheroes are perfectly assimilated within society and want to be famous at all costs. A drug that gives super powers to mere mortals is spreading all over town. Moreau & Schaltzmann are investigating the case with the support of two ex-superheroes, Monte Carlo and Callista. They'll do whatever it takes to dismantle the drug traffic ring. Starring Pio Marmaï, Vimala Pons, Benoît Poelvoorde, Leïla Bekhti, and Swann Arlaud. There are so many films trying to reinvent the superhero concept and make the stories more gritty and realistic,...

Paris-based Kinology has acquired world rights for Finnish director Aino Suni’s psychological thriller “A Girl’s Room.”
Cannes-based Adastra Films is teaming on the project with Hamburg shingle and “System Crasher” producer Oma Inge Film and Helsinki-based Made.
Suni’s feature debut follows Elina, a 17-year-old aspiring Finnish rapper forced to leave her home for the south of France after her mother finds a French boyfriend. There, she is drawn to her new stepsister Sofia, a charismatic ballet dancer who leads a double life. Their relationship soon turns toxic, however.
The film follows Suni’s 2018 documentary “Never Again,” about Finnish rap artist Mercedes Bentso (a.k.a. Linda-Maria Roine).
Adastra has worked with Suni since 2012, when it began distributing her short works. “We were so convinced of Aino’s talent as a storyteller that we decided to work with her on her first fiction feature film,” said Adastra producer Sébastien Aubert.
