A UK trailer has been released for The Girl with All the Gifts. Based on Mike Carey's book, the film involves a zombie apocalypse, in which children hold the key to a cure. A new look at some familiar undead territory, The Girl with All the Gifts is set to release, in the United Kingdom, this September. Saban Films will make the film available in North America, later this year. Shot by Colm McCarthy (Outcast, 2010), the first trailer for the film shows a world in chaos; you can see this exciting trailer, now! A longer synopsis talks about a mutated fungal disease. It reduces free will. Now, an army base, in rural England, is all that is left of civilization. Here, scientists try to find a cure for this infection. An attack leaves the base vulnerable and a group of survivors head out into a devastated Britain. The trailer is action focused.

It’s hard to believe that another South by Southwest Film Festival is almost upon us, and this year’s lineup is yet another stellar collection of indie films, shorts, documentaries and experiential projects from all over the world. As we prepare to bring our readers extensive coverage over the next week from Austin, here’s a look at the 11 genre-related films and TV shows we’re excited to check out during the festival, which begins on Friday, March 11th.
[Writer’s Note: During Sundance 2016, this writer had the privilege of covering two great genre films: Under the Shadow from Babak Anvari and Mickey Keating’s Carnage Park. Since I had the chance to catch both of these films back in January, I decided it wouldn’t be fair to include them here in my preview piece (however, genre fans attending SXSW should definitely check out both films during the fest, as they are equally incredible).]
In a Valley of Violence (Director/Screenwriter: Ti West)
Festival Synopsis: From Blumhouse, the film tells the story of a drifter named Paul who arrives in a small town, seeking revenge on the thugs who murdered his friend. Sisters Mary Anne and Ellen, who run the town’s hotel, help Paul in his quest for vengeance. Cast: Ethan Hawke, Taissa Farmiga, James Ransone, Karen Gillan, John Travolta (World Premiere)

Karen Gillan is perhaps most known for her work on the beloved BBC series Dr. Who, but horror fans may remember her from the stylish almost-werewolf flick Outcast last year. She's gearing up for another bout with the supernatural - and this time it's personal!
According to Variety, Gillan will star in the horror flick Oculus for Intrepid Pictures and director Mike Flanagan (Absentia). No word on a release date as of yet, but we do know that FilmDistrict is handling domestic distribution while Focus Features International will handle foreign sales. Production begins this fall.
Stay tuned, and rest assured we'll be covering this one closely.

Back in early 2011, horror fan-site juggernaut Bloody Disgusting took a stand for independent and foreign genre lore by partnering with The Collective and AMC Theaters, establishing distribution company Bloody Disgusting Selects. Their purpose? To hand-pick often glanced over horror gems which get lost in the mainstream remake shuffle, and grant those deemed worthy of proper theatrical and Video On Demand releases exposure.
As an avid follower and member of “The Infected” (the site’s online community), Bloody Disgusting Selects seemed like a gleaming beacon of hope in the world of inventive, creative, and one-of-a-kind horror experiences. Selected by site staffers and genre enthusiast super fans sharing a common love for skin crawling madness, I made it my mission not to skip a single feature. Now, with their first ten tales of terror rated and reviewed, I thought I’d touch upon Bloody Disgusting’s foray into film distribution and determine the company’s future.

It probably seems that I don’t like anything I watch. But, that’s definitely not the case. I just watch a lot of really shitty movies.
Outcast is a mediocre tale of Celtic witchcraft and secret societies. Mary is being sought by an occult group intent upon killing her son, who has a non-ironic mullet. The group sends an assassin armed with ancient mythical powers to seek out and kill the lad. The assassin invokes his magical powers by killing and gutting land fowl. It seems the boy possesses mystical powers which he has yet to fully realize or harness. Thus, the reason for his plotted demise. Against the advisement of his mother, the boy begins a flirtation with danger that could cost him and his mother their lives.
The film is co-written and directed by Colm McCarthy. I wasn’t particularly impressed with his directorial prowess or his ability as a writer.

It’s a case of better late than never as Daniel Portman joins HBO’s Game of Thrones as Podrick Payne. Podrick, the squire of Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), actually shows up in the first book of the Song of Ice and Fire series, but it took him until Season 2 to find his way from page to screen in the cable network’s adaptation. His arrival still comes with good timing, though, because Tyrion heads to King’s Landing to become the King’s Hand, where Podrick will be “an invaluable ally” to the dwarf, according to Access Hollywood.
Game of Thrones Season 2 Fills Seastone Chair
Portman, like some of the other new additions to the series, is still a Hollywood newbie, with a role in 2010’s Outcast with Karen Gillan and a part in the upcoming 2012 film, The Angel’s Share, as his only screen credits.

Yes it’s time for another round of casting news for season 2 of HBO‘s Game of Thrones. One of our favorite characters and definitely one of our favorite actors, Peter Dinklage‘s character Tyrion Lannister will be getting a squire in the new season.
Access Hollywood reports that the squire by the name of Podrick Payne will be played by Daniel Portman (Outcast). Although Podrick appeared in the first book, he wasn’t included in the first season of the tv series. It’s presumed, given the casting, that the character will be older in the series than he was in the books, as in the books he wasn’t yet even a teenager.
In other casting news, Theon Greyjoy’s father Lord Balon Greyjoy will be played by Patrick Malahide (Law and Order: UK), and Oona Chaplin (The Hour, Quantum of Solace) has been cast as Jeyne Westerling.

Following Wednesday's announcement that Patrick Malahide had been cast in the role of Balon Greyjoy, it's being reported that two more roles have been filled for Game of Thrones' second season. These two are that of Pyat Pree and Podrick Payne. As WinterIsComing.net noted, that's a neat bit of alliteration.
Pyat Pree, a warlock who Daenerys meets in her travels, will be played by Ian Hanmore, according to Westeros.org. Hanmore has appeared in such British shows as Shameless, Life on Mars, Doctor Who, and Outlaws.
Podrick Payne, a much younger addition to the cast, will be played by Daniel Portman, Access Hollywood is reporting. In the books, Payne is a young boy who becomes Tyrion Lannister's (Peter Dinklage) squire. Portman is older than Payne was in the books, but this makes since considering most of the show's characters are a few years older than their book counterparts.

Shaun of the Dead's Rafe Spall has landed a big role in Ridley Scotts much anticipated sci-fi thriller Prometheus, alongside previous announced Idris Elba (28 Weeks Later, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), Sean Harris (Isolation, Creep), Kate Dickie (Outcast), Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, reports the Daily Mail. The latest entry in the epic saga that is the Prometheus project, we have some new cast to connect with the film, and an unnamed source close to the film has some insight to share. The film is shaping up, more and more, in my eyes to not be a direct sequel or prequel but to take place in the same universe, thus serving as a companion piece to the Alien series. More after the jump!...
