It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s 80s-set “IMAX thrill-ride” for Bad Robot is shrouded in secrecy. So could Flowervale Street be another Cloverfield spin-off? We look at the possible clues.
We’ve been following the slightly under-the-radar progress of Flowervale Street for some time now. An upcoming film from It Follows and Under The Silver Lake director David Robert Mitchell, it has been shrouded in secrecy for several months, with even that title currently in question.
As more details about the project have emerged, though, we’ve began to wonder: could it be another film in the Cloverfield series? If so, this would place it in a series that has so far included the 2008 original and the spin-offs 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and The Cloverfield Paradox (2018).
Let’s take a quick look at the clues we currently have to hand.

No official announcement has yet been made by the BBC or production company Bad Wolf, but that hasn’t stopped Variety confirming, or IMDb listing, that Millie Gibson’s successor as Doctor Who companion will be Andor and Jurassic World Dominion actor Varada Sethu.
Sethu is rumoured to be filming with Ncuti Gatwa on series 15 already, and to fulfil the role of the Doctor’s new companion in all eight episodes of that series. So… who is she?
Cinta Kaz in Star Wars Andor
Tony Gilroy’s live-action Cassian Andor prequel series Star Wars: Andor aired in late 2021 on Disney+. Set five years before 2016 movie Rogue One, it’s about the formation of the Rebel Alliance in opposition to the fascistic Galactic Empire. In it, 32-year-old Sethu plays Cinta Kaz, a member of a rebel cell operating on the planet Aldhani who works alongside her partner Vel Sartha, a cousin of Senator Mon Mothma.

New Line’s new animated movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is moving from its April 12, 2024 release date to Dec. 13 next year.
The move stems from a chain-reaction of Warner Bros re-dating today, spurred by Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two going from Nov. 3 this year to March 15, 2024, which then pushed that financier and producer’s other title, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire from that date to April 12, 2024. Dune: Part Two had to move had to shift on account of the unavailability of its cast to promote during the actors strike.
War of the Rohirrim will now face off on its new December date against Sony’s reboot of The Karate Kid.
The anime feature, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original New Line Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Peter Jackson movies, in addition to his Hobbit trilogy,...

Netflix’s director of U.K. features Fiona Lamptey has exited the streamer after 19 months, Variety understands.
No reason has been given for the move and Netflix declined to comment.
Lamptey joined Netflix U.K. Oct. in 2021 from Fruit Tree Media with a brief to expand Netflix’s U.K. talent roster and scout new IP to adapt for feature-length productions. She previously spent 13 years at Channel 4 and its feature division Film4.

George MacKay is virtually unrecognizable in the erotic revenge thriller “Femme,” directed by Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping. With slicked-back hair and a heavy-handed neck tattoo, the dashing, soft-spoken British actor, well known for his period roles, is transformed into the kind of East London gangster you’d go out of your way to avoid.
Part of what makes MacKay’s character, Preston, so menacing is the fact that he’s deeply closeted. When one night he’s teased in front of his friends by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett’s drag artist Jules — dressed up as Aphrodite Banks — he responds with violence so severe that it shatters Jules’ confidence to ever perform in drag again. The attack emboldens Jules to ensnare an unwitting Preston in an intense sexual relationship with the intention of outing him on the Internet.
It’s not only Jules’ character who trades in drag, explains MacKay.

Neil Forsyth’s The Gold is a true crime drama with a distinctive perspective. As much as it’s about the cat-and-mouse chase between the robbers of £26 million’s worth of gold bullion in November 1983, and the special task force trying to catch them, it’s also about the British class system. Over six episodes (airing weekly on BBC One and available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer), Forsyth tells a story about villains on both sides of the social divide and the entrenched systems protecting those at the top. His London is just as veined with establishment corruption, freemasonry and snobbery as it is with armed robbers, hooky fences and locals who keep their mouths shut for fear of reprisal.
The ensemble drama covers the period from the 1983 robbery, then the largest gold heist in British history, to the investigation and sentencing of select ring leaders. The story, as the newspapers show,...

The death of Mahsa Amini while in police custody in Tehran on Sept. 16 has sparked widespread protests across Iran. Thousands — many of them teenage girls and women — have taken to the streets to oppose the regime and to push for their basic rights, most prominently women’s rights, while a brutal authoritarian crackdown has, according to human rights groups, led to the killing of hundreds of people so far. Although several Hollywood figures have voiced their support for the protestors and there has been a large show of solidarity from the French industry, more can be done to help, says Iranian-British director Babak Anvari.

It’s Labor Day weekend, more than three months after “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount) rose to #1 in theaters over Memorial Day weekend, and it’s #1 again thanks to no competition and the September 5 boost of 3 tickets for National Cinema Day.
As for those who didn’t go to theaters, plenty of them selected “Maverick” at 19.99 to download and view at home. It spent the second of what will be likely many weeks atop all VOD charts.
Five of this weekend’s box office top 10 titles are also available on VOD. Also arriving this week are box-office leaders “Beast” (Universal) and “Thor: Love and Thunder” (Disney). “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony), now available as as a lower-cost title, didn’t pop up.
Apart from “Maverick,” the charts again prove a big get for Universal. They own 14 of the 30 slots, including five of the #2 and #3 positions. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” (now...

It’s well-known by now that Netflix has a pretty lenient approach to storytelling when they support exciting filmmakers. You can sense that mentality in their massive productions, like Martin Scorsese finally getting to make “The Irishman,” with a three-hour running time. Or there are the countless smaller projects that run amok and usually aren’t entirely focused in their own right.

The state of the nation is explored in British Netflix Original I Came By, and (spoilers) it turns out it’s in a terrible state. This is a horror/thriller from Under The Shadow director Babak Anvari and it sees disaffected graffiti writer Toby (George MacKay) discover something incredibly disturbing in a house he has broken into belonging to a wealthy and highly respected former judge played by Hugh Bonneville.

But the ending to I Came By comes with a twist and it’s an important one for the future of these characters, while carrying a message for us all today. Let’s break it down.

Netflix may be undervaluing their latest original thriller from Babak Anvari by unceremoniously dropping it on the streaming platform today, but we at /Film know a solid thriller when we see it and will happily pick up the mantle to sing its praises. Directed by Anvari from a script he co-wrote with Namsi Khan, "I Came By" is a twisty thriller about a young graffiti artist named Toby Nealey (George MacKay) who intentionally tags the homes of the elite, but gets more than he bargained for after breaking into the home of a high-profile judge Hector Blake (Hugh Bonneville) and discovering the truth of his hidden basement.
Now, Tobey has put himself and his loved ones in harm's way, as Blake will do anything to keep his secret under wraps. Netflix describes the film with the tagline "Privilege hides the darkest secrets," which sounds like a no-brainer hit for the streaming juggernaut.

Netflix has a way of under-promoting their exclusive and original movies, especially when it comes to international horror, and that’s definitely been the case with Under the Shadow and Wounds director Babak Anvari‘s I Came By, a new suspense thriller that’s… streaming now?!
Much to our surprise, I Came By premiered on Netflix this morning with very little promotion. In fact, we weren’t even aware that Babak Anvari had a new movie coming out this year!

Netflix also teases, “Privilege hides the darkest secrets. After uncovering a sinister secret of a prestigious judge (Hugh Bonneville), a young graffiti artist (George Mackay) and his loved ones are dragged into a deadly game of cat and mouse.”

A shot of Idris Elba socking a lion in the face isn’t just the dramatic denouement of Beast – it’s the film’s entire raison d’etre. No one’s here for the scenes of Elba’s well-intentioned patriarch attempting to heal his fractured family, or the vague sentiments about nature’s karmic vengeance. Audiences will turn up because a trailer promised to show them one of our most charismatic A-listers in a boxing match with a roided-out kitty cat. In that sense, it’s impossible to argue that Beast doesn’t live up to its promise, because the only promise was another piece of recyclable pop-culture imagery. Beast is the latest entry in the man vs arbitrary animal Hall of Fame, filed...

The Downton Abbey star plays a believably sinister villain in an otherwise underwhelming tale of a judge with a horrific secret in his basement
There’s a believably devious turn from Hugh Bonneville at the centre of new hit-and-miss Netflix thriller I Came By, a film that sadly has very little else believable in it. He plays well-heeled former judge Hector Blake, who finds himself locked in a class-based battle of wills when socially conscious graffiti artist Toby (George MacKay) uncovers something nasty in his basement. Toby and friend Jay (Percelle Ascott) have gained notoriety in London for breaking into the homes of the rich and leaving the tag “I Came By”, but when Toby delves further into Hector’s home, he discovers something he’s unable to ignore. He calls the police but Hector’s connections and wealth make him an impossible target, leading the two into war.
