We told you earlier this year about Stiletto, an upcoming horror movie from director Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) that’s being described as a throwback to the early slashers of the 1980s. We now have an exclusive first look at the film’s villain, “The Stiletto Killer.”
The killer’s mask was created by Jason Baker, famous for designing the mask that Ethan Hawke wore in The Black Phone, and owner of Callosum FX Studios, which is the creative brainchild of legendary special effects master Tom Savini and renowned artist and effects creator Jason Baker himself.
Baker tells Bloody Disgusting in a statement, “Creating the killer’s mask for Samuel Gonzalez Jr. & Gigi Gustin on Stiletto was an absolute blast. I personally drew so much inspiration from the script. The film is a morbidly beautiful mixture of beauty and carnage. And that was the mindset we used in the design.

Jennifer Lawrence might not be nominated for the 2024 Oscars, but it couldn’t stop the actress from being dressed to the nines. She opted for attire from Dior — a brand she’s been associated with for a long time.

She walked the red carpet wearing another stunning couture gown from the French fashion house. This time, it was a strapless black gown adorned with white polka dots all over.
Although the dress may have seemed simple, it actually required a lot of preparation time. Despite its uncomplicated appearance, designing and creating it took a significant effort, totaling 1500 hours.

It’s to be expected that Jennifer Lawrence would don Dior at the 2024 Oscars — but the French fashion house’s longtime ambassador stepped out in a surprise pop of polka dots at tonight’s ceremony.
For her return to the Academy Awards red carpet, the No Hard Feelings star wore a strapless black-and-white off-shoulder gown from Christian Dior Haute Couture’s Spring 2024 collection. (She last attended the Oscars in 2018.) The playful dotted print — a pattern rarely seen at Hollywood’s biggest night — was accentuated by matching wrap.

The look was accessorized with a necklace and tennis bracelet, both crafted of created diamonds, set in 18-karat white gold, from Swarovski’s Galaxy collection. Both pieces made their debut at the 2024 Oscars.

Best Actress has come down to the two-horse race we always thought it would do as we enter Oscars weekend. “Poor Things” star Emma Stone took home the Best Comedy Actress Golden Globe as well as the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” performer Lily Gladstone landed the Best Drama Actress Golden Globe and snagged the SAG award for Best Actress. That has left us Oscarologists split. Gladstone is slightly ahead in our Oscars odds chart for Best Actress but, truthfully, it could go either way.
Or could it go the same way?
Could Stone and Gladstone produce a delightful shock and share the Best Actress Oscar in a tie? Wouldn’t that be fun? Stone and Gladstone both seem like they’d be overjoyed if that were to happen, and so would we be. Best Actress has ended in a tie before.

Bradley Cooper, the man who sports dreamy blue eyes and impressive acting chops, has graced the silver screen in numerous acclaimed movies. From playing a troubled bipolar man in Silver Linings Playbook to a war hero in American Sniper, he has shown off a variety of acting skills in recent years.
With a whopping 12 Oscar nominations under his belt, it’s undisputed that the actor, 49, certainly understands a thing or two about Hollywood’s biggest night. Having said that, despite his exceptional record at the Academy Awards, Cooper once shocked both fans and critics by referring to the ceremony as “utterly meaningless”.

Yes, the actor who’s been nominated for a gold statuette several times doesn’t seem to place much interest in the whole thing. With respect to his role as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, Cooper is currently a candidate for an Oscar.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Actor are Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”), Colman Domingo (“Rustin”), Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”), Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”), and Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction”). Murphy (16/5) is favored to win by our odds, followed in order by Giamatti (18/5), Cooper (9/2), Wright (9/2), and Domingo (9/2).
Whereas last year’s lead male lineup was the first in almost nine decades to consist entirely of Oscars newcomers, this one includes three rookies and two general veterans. Standing alone in having already competed for this specific award is Cooper, who was previously recognized for “Silver Linings Playbook” (2013), “American Sniper” (2015), and “A Star Is Born” (2019). Since he personally helmed both “A Star Is Born” and “Maestro,” he is now the fourth person to direct himself to multiple acting nominations, following Laurence Olivier, Warren Beatty, and Clint Eastwood.

One day, Barkhad Abdi was driving taxicabs in Minneapolis and the next, he was on movie sets in Malta and Morocco, making his acting debut opposite Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the high-octane hostage picture Captain Phillips for filmmaker Paul Greengrass.
A few days after cameras started rolling, Abdi dialed up Francine Maisler, the casting director who locked him in the movie playing the lead Somali pirate responsible for hijacking an American cargo ship. “I called Francine and said, ‘I like this. How can I make this my career?'” remembers Abdi, who beat out more than 1,000 hopefuls vying for the role from open casting calls in Minneapolis, Ohio and San Diego, cities home to large populations of Somali Americans. “She asked me how many Black actors I see in movies each year, and I said, ‘Not that many.’ She then said, ‘Whatever you do...

Last year, Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for “The Whale,” which also won Best Makeup and Hairstyling for artists Adrien Morot, Judy Chin, and Annemarie Bradley. This is a combination of Oscar categories that have popped up several times over the years. But could it happen again this year? Well, theoretically, yes.
The brilliant makeup artist Kazu Hiro, also known as Kazuhiro Tsuji, turned Bradley Cooper into Leonard Bernstein in Netflix’s “Maestro.” Kazu Hiro landed himself an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling alongside Kay Georgiou and Lori McCoy-Bell. Meanwhile, Cooper is nominated for Best Actor.

In early 2021, Megan Ellison emerged from a self-imposed Hollywood exile and did something she hadn’t done in over a year: She signed on to back a movie, Nimona. There was a time when this would not have been remarkable, when Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures was producing five films a year and she was considered the industry’s own Medici, the premier patron of prestige cinema. But Ellison had backed away from Hollywood in 2019 after a series of missteps and become elusive even to some of her own executives. When her former distribution chief, Erik Lomis, asked her whether she wanted to look at some reels of Nimona, which was about to get axed in Disney’s closure of Blue Sky Animation, “I wasn’t really engaging in new film projects at the time,” Ellison said, answering THR’s questions by email. “But being curious, I said yes.”

Before scoring three Oscar nominations this year for Netflix’s Maestro — including best picture, actor and original screenplay (the latter shared with Josh Singer) — Bradley Cooper had already garnered an impressive nine Academy Award nominations as an actor (Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, American Hustle in 2014, American Sniper in 2015 and A Star Is Born in 2019), a producer (American Sniper, A Star Is Born, Joker in 2020 and Nightmare Alley in 2022) and a writer (A Star Is Born). His latest crop of nods makes him a 12-time nominee across those three categories and one of the most successful multi-hyphenates working in film today.

For Bradley Cooper, his star wasn’t just born. He’s been in Hollywood for decades, and yet the multi-hyphenate talent seems to still be discovering more of his talents.

Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss possible upsets at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday, and as Oscar voters make their final picks, our eyes are turned toward this weekend’s big surge of precursor ceremonies. Maestro (2023) is hailed among Bradley Cooper’s best works. He had been working for six years to prepare for the movie with sheer dedication, and expectedly, he captivated audiences with his performance. The film revolved around music, love, and more subjective themes and the complicated love life between music composer Leonard Bernstein, played by Cooper, and Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. Cooper co-wrote and directed apart from starring in the biographical romantic drama.

After the results of the first two major Oscar precursor ceremonies, this year’s Best Actor race, to many, looks to be a two-horse race: Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”) was victorious at both the Golden Globes in the comedy category and at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) took home the Drama Globe, edging out the frontrunner, Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”). Going into the SAG Awards, Murphy still leads our odds, with six of our experts currently backing the Irishman. Giamatti follows closely behind with the support of four experts. Cooper sits on the outside right now with the support of a pair of pundits. Despite Cooper’s faltering at those precursors, he is still very much in this race. “Shit, I’ve been around, dude,” cracked Bradley Cooper on Thursday night after he watched a montage of his 25 years of screen work with a capacity crowd inside Santa Barbara’s historic 2000-seat Arlington Theatre en route to collecting the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Outstanding Performer of the Year Award.
The 49-year-old — who is currently Oscar-nominated for producing, co-writing and acting in Maestro, a film that he also directed for Netflix about the complicated marriage of Leonard Bernstein, played by Cooper, and Felicia Montealegre Bernstein, played by Carey Mulligan — was feted by Mulligan and, in a surprise appearance, by his friend Brad Pitt. Pitt declared, “For me, Maestro is a masterwork,” adding, “Yes, it takes great actors, but it also takes great construction. And I’m telling you, not since [Robert] Redford have I seen anyone do it so well.”

Christian Bale is thought by many to have become an “actor’s actor.” He is fully committed to his characters, often staying in character during shooting, and he is not afraid to lose or gain weight in order to make a character more believable, as was the case with his Oscar-nominated role as former U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney in “Vice.”
Good reviews are something that Bale has gotten used to during his three-decade film career, beginning with his starring role in Steven Spielberg‘s “Empire of the Sun” when he was only 13 years old. In that time, Bale has been nominated for three Oscars (winning one for “The Fighter” with bids for “American Hustle” and “The Big Short”), three Golden Globes and five Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations of which he won two (for “The Fighter” and “American Hustle”). His 2022 films included “Amsterdam” for David O. Russell and “The Pale Blue Eye...
