Exclusive: After circling rights for weeks to the buzzy Vanity Fair article “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him,” Amazon MGM Studios has locked them down, Deadline understands.
Executive producer and production attachments on True Crime, True Faith are premature and cannot be confirmed at this time.
While certain buyers had been looking at developing the piece for film, it seems that the Amazon adaptation will be a series. Details have yet to emerge about creatives involved behind the camera, and of course, discussions on casting have not started given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Published by Julie Miller on August 9, the Vanity Fair article tells for the first time the full story of Margy Palm, a religious Texas mother who was abducted by serial killer Stephen Morin outside of a Kmart while shopping for Christmas gifts on December 11, 1981. Palm spent eight hours...

Not long after Bravo canceled Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2007, the show’s creators thought their showbiz careers were over. Despite masterminding one of the 21st century’s seminal reality TV hits, David Collins, Rob Eric and Michael Williams — the team behind Scout Productions, founded in 1994 as a scrappy indie film outfit based out of Boston — were struggling to find another hit now that they’d been rebranded as unscripted lifestyle guys. “In 2004, we won an Oscar for The Fog of War and an Emmy for Queer Eye,” Collins says. “Two years after that, we could not get arrested. There was a moment where I was like, ‘All right, am I going to become a barista?’ “

The Duggar family’s previously “shiny” image has long been tarnished. The fall from grace was certainly earned — eldest son Josh Duggar is currently serving a 12+-year prison sentence for possession of child pornography, and in Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, the Duggar documentary premiering June 2 on Prime Video, viewers will learn more of the unconscionable lengths Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar went to to shield their firstborn from the consequences of his actions. Like FX‘s The Secrets of Hillsong, Shiny Happy People first focuses on one disgraced religious figure before pivoting into the large-scale issue in which they were involved. Hillsong details Carl and Laura Lentz‘s ousting from the megachurch, then shifts gears to show their place as cogs in the wheel of Hillsong’s cycle of abuse led by founder Brian Houston. Shiny Happy People takes the expansion further, showing the alarming reach the Duggar...

Afeni and Tupac Shakur are making history once again. FX has reported that its five-part docuseries about the mother and son, “Dear Mama,” scored the most-watched premiere episode for an unscripted series in FX’s history. The series premiered on the network before becoming available to stream on Hulu. Those combined numbers account for the record-breaking performance.
“It’s only fitting that Allen Hughes definitive piece on Tupac and Afeni Shakur delivered a record performance for us and it speaks to Tupac’s enduring legacy,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement. “Allen’s examination of Tupac viewed through the prism of his mother Afeni is a fascinating take that really gets beneath the education and experience that shaped his life and inspired him to become one of the greatest artists ever.

Based on its first trailer, FX’s upcoming docuseries about Hillsong Church seems as though it’s going to be as explosive as its subject matter.
In this first look at “The Secrets of Hillsong,” the series accuses Hillsong of “child abuse, labor abuse and sexual assault.” The four-part series is set to premiere on FX on May 19 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
The trailer features interview footage of disgraced ex-pastor Carl Lentz. The celebrity pastor served as a spiritual advisor to Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner before he was fired in 2020. According to Hillsong Global Pastor Brian Houston, Lentz was fired for “leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.” But as the docuseries teases, there may be more to this story.
“You do not want to be in this chair. I cannot stress it enough,” Lentz says in the trailer.
