Roots: The Gift (1988)
An excellent prequel
ROOTS: THE GIFT Is an excellent addition to the saga. Because It Is set In between the time period of Parts 2 and 3 of the original series, It's likely that you would find It hard to understand. However even If you haven't seen any of ROOTS, THE GIFT Is a fell-good drama, and you'll be guaranteed a little weep.
Jesus of Nazareth (1977)
The greatest story ever told Is made Into the greatest story ever seen!
JESUS OF NAZARETH Is a simply unforgettable six hours of television. Even If It's Inaccurate In some places, It's one of the greatest works of the 20th century and certainly the most moving. Robert Powell also gives the greatest peformance an actor or actress has ever given. TV and film's best ever production.
The Living Daylights (1987)
Scares 'The Living Daylights' out of people who dislike Bond and Dalton.
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS goes (In my view of course) along with (In release order) FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, LIVE AND LET DIE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, A VIEW TO A KILL and the later TOMORROW NEVER DIES, as the best of the Bond series. Timothy Dalton is clearly born to have played James Bond, he might not have Connery's suaveness or Moore's smooth voice, but he's great as Bond. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS is a non-stop action-packed modern 007 adventure not to be missed!.
A View to a Kill (1985)
Bond Is back to his best!
A VIEW TO A KILL is not one of the most remembered and well known of the James Bond films, and many people have different views on it. In my opinion, I think's it's fantastic and goes among the best of the Bond films. Roger does look very odd now (due to his age) as 007, I'll admit that but his performance is top-notch as ever. Christopher Walken's Zorin is the most psychotic Bond villain yet, Grace Jones is a 'grace' as Mayday, and Patrick Macnee is delightful as Godfrey Tibbet, Sir Godfey Tibbet (get it!)
The New Avengers (1976)
A great follow up series to a great show.
THE NEW AVENGERS Is the sequel series to THE AVENGERS, and for new viewers sees John Steed still as a top secret agent, this time teamed up with the unruffled Purdey, and the dangerous but kind-hearted Mike Gambit. THE NEW AVENGERS Is slightly different to the sixties original, since It takes a polished and lavish look, and makes It tougher and grittier (like a cop show). It Is very difficult to say what kind of AVENGERS fans will like this, but It should satisfy most people.
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Number two of Roger, Is one of the best of the lot!
After a great start with the brilliant LIVE AND LET DIE, Roger Moore throws in another great outing as 007 in one of the best James Bond films. Christopher Lee is highly chilling as Scaramanga, and Nik Nak is the classic pint-sized henchmen, and mixing the Bond formula with a bit of fantasy and extra-wit, make this an unmissable Bond film.
The Avengers (1961)
The best TV show ever made.
During the fourth and fifth seasons of THE AVENGERS, In my opinion It can be hailed as the best TV show ever made. Patrick Macnee Is of course John, and Diana Rigg of course Emma Peel, the secret agents born to work with each other. Steed Is a gentlemen with a wall of steel (apart from Inside his bowler) In him, and Emma Is the queen of unarmed self-defence. If you have just been Introduced to the show I strongly recommend the episodes THE TOWN OF NO RETURN, THE WINGED AVENGER DEATH'S DOOR, THE RETURN OF THE CYBERNAUGHTS and THE FORGET-ME KNOT.
Live and Let Die (1973)
The Best of the Bond films.
Roger Moore kicks off his 12 year PPK carrying and vodka martini drinking, and what a fantastic start!. In my opinion LIVE AND LET DIE Is the best James Bond film I have seen so far. There's everything; memorable villains and sidekicks, being one of It's most strongest. Kanaga Is a 'love to hate' criminal and Mr. Big Is a truly chilling villain. Plenty of wit and classic scenes also make this an unmissable Bond and adventure film. 4/5.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
'You Only Find Me Twice' Mr Bond!
Although Lazenby Is very neglected by some of the Bond fans, this film Itself Is quite good. Lazenby's Bond Is quite cruel, but Is softened by the love of his future bride, Tracy. She Is played by Diana Rigg, who In my opinion Is the film's star attraction. The bad points are that Q's gadgets are hardly In the film, Donald Pleasence Isn't Blofeld and Its plot Is a little too bare and simple. It's fine In other areas. 3.2/5
You Only Live Twice (1967)
"He would have wanted It this way"
A fine and crowd pleasing 007 adventure, that bursts with Imagination, wit and true James Bond chemistry. Sean Connery Is (despite his misery with the press while filming) as always, great as Bond, and Donald Pleasence Is easily the best of the Blofelds. The girls might not be some of the most memorable, but James has a lot of work for him (he seduces four!). Also along for the ride are pirana fish, Q's 'Little Nellie' helicopter, a memorable climax and Roald Dahl's fabulous script.
From Russia with Love (1963)
Second Bond film, and it's a good one.
They don't make James Bond films like this any more!. Okay, It may not be one of the absolute best, but It's a cracking good piece of entertainment. The thing what makes FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE a good Bond film, Is mainly that It's more focused on atomsphere than action (although there are some memorable action sequences In It). And although there's atmosphere and quite a bit of cold-heartedness, there's still some room for good doses of humor. But If you're a James Bond fan of today, you probably won't like It very much, so this Is a Bond film for true through and through Bond fans, and old-fashioned fans. 3.5/5=7/10
