The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
No Spoiler Because This Movie Sucks So bad That I Left after 15 minutes
The first Matrix movie in 1999 was already a perfect package. Unnecessary sequels have been made over and over again to scam people of their cash. This particular one was so bad that I felt embarrassed that I had sat through the first 15 minutes. Filmmakers please consider the environment before you make another sequel. The environment and humanity will thank you!
Physical (2021)
I had to go back and changed my rating from 9 to 10!
The show has compelling drama. Story line is not driven by stupidity but Sheila's intelligence and her conflicting roles in the society which make for good entertainment. The 80's music takes the cake. Highly recommended.
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (2020)
It's time to stop talking about change and start modifying our behaviour
It all boils down to are we willing to live small so that our offsprings will live on? The current pandemic and the lockdown has taught me that it is possible to reduce our carbon and consumption foot prints. It is possible to live small and it is not a sacrifice when you do it with a purpose.
The Great (2020)
Catherine is Great!
Very likable comedy. Fanning was quite adorable in it. I was rooting for Catherine the whole time which is easy to do. Especially enjoyed the heart touching season finale. Now I am interested in reading about the history.
Normal People (2020)
Confusion and anxiety
Just finished the first two episodes. They transport me back to my teenage years when we were beginners of love, constantly confused and anxious of how we feel about each other, starving for reassurances on a daily basis because we lack the life experience and confidence at that stage of our lives. The author is very successful in capturing and bringing me back to that adorable phase of my youth.
Mou gaan dou II (2003)
Compulsive Sequel Syndrome Hampering Creativity
Some movies are just better movies without having a part 2. Wu Jian Dao (or even the Matrix in that respect) is one of them. The Prequel appears so much like an add-on to an already rounded off movie. It attempts to explain what HAD HAPPENED prior to the first movie and neglects telling A STORY which is what makes Wu Jian Dao successful in the first place.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
A Disappointing Movie
Save your hard earn money from this travesty. At best this is a cyber soap opera combining elements from Star Trek and General Hospital. Keanu Reeves also suffers from the "Andy-Lau's-Look-at-Me-I-am-so-handsome-Syndrome". This sequel has totally lost its originality from its predecessor. The only thing that this movie did for me was satisfy my curiosity on it special effect which half of it is CG.
Mou gaan dou (2002)
Hong Kong Masterpiece!!
Wu jian dao is the bottom (18th) level of Hell in Buddhism. The worst punishment there is where never-ending suffering is inflicted to the condemned who will live forever in Hell.
In this movie Ming and Yan are suffering this constant daily hell of hiding unwillingly behind disguise since they started going undercovered at the opposite ends of the law nine years ago. The greatest revelation from this movie is that it shows us the level of talent Hong Kong film industry possesses. I had not regained hope in Hong Kong films until I recently watched this movie.
In the final segment of the director's commentary on the DVD version, the director says that, aside from all the beautiful cinematography, sophisticated plots, superb acting from the cast, he wants the audience to be thinking about this movie after they exit the theatre. And I am still thinking of this movie today. What would I do if I were Ming? How would I have righted all the wrong I have committed to save myself from eternal damnation? Could I have done what Yan did for nine years, living in constant fear and reminding yourself you are trying catch the same guys you live your life with? Is Ming really is good person under the impossible circumstances trying to climb out of this moral deficit? Or is he just a bad guy who has relapses of good conscience?
Wu jian dao is one of those movies I can watch over and over again just to re-live the excitement and analyze its complexities and I think the world-wide audience shouldn't be missing out on this great masterpiece from Hong Kong.

Heat (1995)
A 3 hour Miami Vice Starring Al Pacino as Don Johnson
Similarities:
A harding working cop with personal/marital/family problems. A master thief who longs for love. Everybody including bad guys wears expensive suites. Bad guys own expensive homes and go to upscale restaurants. Rock music. Shots with theme colours, eg. blue. Stylishly architectured police station. The guy who sells explosive who appeared on half the Miami Vice.
Except Pacino is not driving a Ferrari and doesn't have a partner. Michael Mann's cop movies are rarely about reality. No life lessons to be learnt here but a great entertaining romantic crime movie. (10/10)
WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3 (2001)
A Very Sophisticated Animated Movie
I was lucky enough to see this movie when it first came out in March 2002. It was featured at the 2002 Hong Kong Film Festival before the rest of the world sees it except Japan. Both the director and the writer of the movie came all the way from Japan to introduce and Q/A at the screening hall. How often do you see that? I had never seen a Patlabor movie before. I was totally blown away by how sophisticated this movie was. It rivals many Hollywood production movies if not better. The detective story, the visual, the soundtrack, the well written dialogues, the action sequences (though there are little) are all world-class beyond reproach. Fans of Patlabor will also be surprised by a change of perspective in this new movie, like that of "Metal Gear Solid 2" for PlayStation 2. This movie is simply amazing!
