Doctor Who: Blink (2007)
So good it could have been a standalone
This is a refreshingly different episode that's extremely disturbing and thoroughly engaging. Like the tagline, you literally never look away from the screen.
Extremely good acting from Carey Mulligan and a great example of the plot possibilities in the time / space travel genre of TV and movies.
Perfectly crafted and excellently paced. The less is more certainly works here. The locations are really well thought out and contribute to the journey through the story. Easily the best of the post 2005 series and Steven Moffat excels at making an episode that is satisfying to both SCI-FI and Horror fans. 10/10.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Great film, ignore the bad reviews
People saying this was far fetched and not in keeping with the TV series, really? Do you not remember 9 Lives Alice? Plus all the other crazy stuff that happened, how many deaths and car chases in the TV show?
It was a cat and mouse fast paced action film, What do we want thought provoking or to be entertained in this ever more depressing reality of 21st century life?
So what they through in a baddies lair and some set pieces reminiscent of Bond. Some cheesy parts like the baddie and his setup but it was never meant to be a true story.
This is an enjoyable film as long as you see it in the eyes of a decent action flick and not some boring thought provoking stuff like the typical Oscar chasing movies!!
Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965)
4k was a mistake
While it's great that they painstakingly cleaned up the original film stock and rescanned. The detail should have been a HD remaster rather than 4K because the extra resolution just shows up the imperfections in the colour techniques of that time and results in very poor skin tones and whites. Constantly noticing the pixel artifacts is very jarring at times.
Probably wouldn't rewatch
The film itself is reasonably ok and worth seeing for extra large sets and better practical effects compared to the BBC studio TV version.
The dialog replacement was quite noticeable and is quite common in films from this era.
Save the Cinema (2022)
Very moving and touching story.
Reading some of the lower score reviews made me almost not watch this movie. In the end I thought I would try it anyway and I was so glad I did. It's just a simply great story and very well told. I knew nothing about the history, so it unfolded before my eyes. It held my interest to the last frame and even brought tears to my eyes. Highly recommended if you like British movies with a heart.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Good yes but 9.9 seriously? No
Just because a slow burning show has 1 decent episode doesn't mean we should lower the bar and rate it a 10. Surprise ending, yes? Funny parts, yes. But this is no Ozimandus or Breaking bad. It's a cash cow off the back of the BB universe. It's an OK to good show mostly (less so in later seasons) but let's reserve judgment until the final curtain is dropped!!!
No Time to Die (2021)
Bond without Bond
A franchise is something that replicates a fomula proven to work. It's clearly not doing that as well as it could. I totally understand we are in a different world and attitudes have evolved, but shouldn't we see Flemings original style with warts and all. Rather than what is starting to look like the standard action movie, with the usual tropes, save the girl, save the child, save the world. This time without the interesting dialog, the exotic locations and the fem fatale strong leading ladies. I give this a 5 for cinematography, ok acting but skills underused on many of the actors. Barbara, Michael you can do better than this, don't cave to the minority who want to cancel everything rather that let intelligent people make their own judgments. Resurrect the Franchise!!
Line of Duty: Episode #6.7 (2021)
One last series Jed. Save your legacy!!!!
Dear Jed Mecurio, I know you read these reviews. Please save your legacy, this is your defining TV masterpiece. Give the fans the ending they want. Don't be a House of Cards, Game of thrones or Lost. Only you have the power. Use it wisely.
Stay Close (2021)
Don't rate if you didn't finish it !!!
Some many bad reviews from people who didn't finish the series. This is very unfair and these people have missed out on what was a rewarding ending. Harlen has written 33 books, how many have you wrote?
Murder, They Hope (2021)
Wasn't this supposed to be a comedy?
Just didn't seem funny at all which is a shame because I liked first one Blackpool express, unfortunately they seem less funny with each new season. Going to give it a try next week to see if it improves.
The Syndicate: Episode #4.6 (2021)
What's with the low scores
This wasn't a masterpiece but it was entertaining enough to hold my interest through the whole of series 4. The end was a nice wrap up and I loved seeing all the dogs.
Just because it had a mostly unknown youngish cast is not a good reason for the unfair low reviews.
Ignore them and watch series 4 as it lot better than most of the newer dull stuff on BBC including the LOD final episode!!!
The War with Grandpa (2020)
Easy to watch
Stop expecting De Niro to only do critically acclaimed movies and enjoy this with your kids.
It probably won't be a classic in years to come but it's an enjoyable hour and a half.
The Irishman (2019)
Worth a 10 year wait
I don't like De niro's political rants but I will not allow them to influence my respect of great acting, directing and storyline. This had all those in spades and didn't need fast cuts and fast action. You enter their world and the cold reality of a gangsters less glamorous side bares it soul and it's a sad but poignant reality. Excellent nuanced acting make this a true masterpiece of cinema. Do not miss this film!!!
