The Defenders (2017)
Slightly disappointed
Your favourite Netflix Marvel heroes are teaming up, this is going to be epic! - Me a few years ago...
However, after watching all 8 episodes in one day, I feel underwhelmed from every aspect of the show. Daredevil is still my favourite show from the Netflix Marvel universe and this does not compare to how much I enjoyed that show. I was expecting The Defenders to be just as good or even better than Daredevil but it is not.
1. The action scenes weren't as good, the edits were too chaotic and some of the fights felt too long for the sake of being too long.
2. The acting wasn't as good as Daredevil because there is such a big cast, there is obviously going to be some characters who are poorly acted. I didn't like Colleen Wing & Murakami.
3. Music was not very memorable. The theme was good, but in the final fight, the music used was really wrong (They used an upbeat soundtrack when they were almost certainly going to die if not for plot armour).
4. Finally, the plot was very vague. They kept saying New York would fall...like how? Unless the viewers or the characters know what exactly that means, it doesn't really present a sense of urgency.
Okay some parts that I liked: 1. The dinner scene was pretty enjoyable. Superhero banter almost never gets old.
2. Stick and his badassery.
3. Everyone's reaction to Dany saying hes the "IMMORTIAL IRON FIST" :DDD I think that's it. Disappointing show but worth a watch if you just like superhero assemblies.
American Gods (2017)
A thrilling and a blast to watch show!
This show is just so extreme, fun and very enjoyable.
Yeah, it's definitely very confusing, but that's what makes it so interesting as well.
Definitely worth it to try it out, one of the best shows to come out this year I think!
Iron Fist (2017)
A MCU TV Show that doesn't really excite
Everyone knows Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were good and enjoyable shows to watch. Each of those characters had identity and the villains were spectacular, e.g. Kingpin and Kilgrave. Iron Fist on the other had lacked identity and the villains were very confusing and simply lame.
Also, his iron fist ability was used sparsely or was on cooldown half of the time, which was disappointing.
However, I did find Ward, Joy and Harold very interesting to watch in the first half of the show. They were quite confusing as characters later in the season as everything became condensed and thus out of direction.
Passengers (2016)
A sympathetic tale set in space
Although Passengers contain a few plot holes, the visuals, acting and especially the atmosphere (or lack thereof) made for a very sympathetic movie experience.
The chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence's Aurora and Chris Pratt's Jim was strong so when the inevitable happened, the viewers could do nothing except to sympathize for the both of them. Using this idea, I was very hooked onto their relationship and the somewhat unconvincing plot.
Overall, Passengers is a film with good visuals and chemistry between the protagonists but offer little in the way of plot.
The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
A well animated yet violent movie
The Secret Life of Pets was a fun movie to watch with many hilarious moments, but it contains surprisingly a lot of violence.
The pets were well animated and were very cute. They were voiced very well and the cast fit their characters perfectly. This made the movie pretty enjoyable for most parts.
One main criticism is probably how much violence is depicted in this animated film, car crashes occur often and look pretty serious. Mature themes such as death and revenge are explored liberally as well. While I have no qualms with these subjects in an action film, it just feels out of place in a film about cute little animals.
Overall a fun to watch animated film, but may not suit all children.
The Accountant (2016)
A fun to watch movie that has elements of John Wick
I quite enjoyed The Accountant; well-choreographed action scenes; witty and funny writing and a charming selection of characters made this movie very fun to watch.
Ben Affleck nailed the autistic and brilliant accountant, while Anna Kendrick was a perfect cast for the quirky and awkward Dana Cummings, just an example of the brilliant casting.
The action scenes were very intense and outrageously enjoyable to watch similar to John Wick, another entertaining action movie. One of my favourite aspects of The Accountant was his marksmanship with the badass .50cal M82 Barrett Sniper rifle. All the scenes with that were absolutely epic! Overall, The Accountant was very enjoyable to watch and that's what matters!
Moonlight (2016)
Overrated movie that is not fun to watch
Watching a movie is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, the two things that I did not feel while watching Moonlight.
I was excited to see this 2016 Best Picture especially involving an all black cast. I was expecting to see a fresh new take into the black community depicted in films, but all the excitement were quashed early on in the movie.
I understand why some people think this is a masterpiece, but it is not enjoyable to watch nor is it educational.
