Tales of the Unexpected: The Landlady (1979)
Season 1, Episode 5
beautiful version
30 May 2024
The great virtue of this adaptation is the admirable performance of Siobhan McKenna as landlady. Like the final, the tension of other versions having, in this case, profound inspired crafted confirmation.

The story of young man looking for room for night in a town , the more than kind host and the book of visitors are familiar for many, like different nice performances in the two roles but, in this case, the atmosphere, like the dialogues are just correct , in spirit of Roald Dahl short story and creepy in precise manner, scene by scene.

The result is more than beautiful but pretty fascinating.

Stillness (2023)
fragile beauty
30 May 2024
The fragile beauty of this short film about two couples having in common few photos and, I feel this, a common profound painful experience is the main virtue of this delicate, powerful, impressive at whole short film.

A film about way to resist to a terrible lost and to reconciliate with this lost.

Grace seems the proper term to define the story of a photographer , in a hospital, helped by familiar nurse, to a couple suffering a stillbirth.

First impulse was to remind me the photos of XIX century of death people.

But the film offers more - a sort of reconciliation , more useful, maybe , for photographer than for parents.

Well acted, it is , for so many reasons, pure gem.

Vance (2023)
Vance and Cat
30 May 2024
Easy to define it as a profound charming vampire short film. A young man takes care of his younger brother , looks for an eccentric tool on a shopping site, buys a bizarre drink, goes to therapist , meets a girl so different, at first sight, by him, discovers a not so comfortable truth after a terrible personal tragedy , learns about life out of his selfish perspective.

The first temptation is to applause the performance, both young actors in main roles offering a beautiful work.

Or the craft of story.

Or the atmosphere.

Or storytelling.

At the end, you discover the richness of meanings used by Vance. Indeed, a beautiful parable.

siblings
30 May 2024
Two brothers meet after 15 years. A bar, a not easy dialogue, a cardboard box . Its contain - the ash of their mother- represents the motif of reunion and kick for reveal the motif of leaving of one of brothers, his frustrations, the vulnerability source and old dark feelings about loss woman.

But her last wish is, against an unpleasant accident, the tool for aproach the siblings and to build their reconciliation.

A simple story, good acting and fair moral. And delicate portrait of relation with past and a touching attitude about facts easy ignored. So, a nice surprise , includig for inspired mix of humor and sensitivity.

correct
30 May 2024
Familiar story, beautiful acting and fair atmosphere for define the vulnerability of young Mr. Weaver, nice acted by Ashton Charge.

In same measure, fine job of Maggie Day as landlady, maybe too reserved by the potential of role but seductive for the correct use of the nuances of dialogue.

Adaptation of Roald Dahl short story, it works well especially for modern details, from train to smartphone , in contrast with the air of house. The result, not impressive but correct is the main virtue of this short film , proposing the good job of actors and the good remind of a familiar text .

So, nothing impressive but nice at whole.

nice

A man needs to choice between his girlfriend and his sex partner. Difficult option, both being profound necessary for his happiness.

This represents an essential part of his life and the dialogues with his girlfriend, in fact, fiance, like the tourment after the discover by her of infidelity (smells are always cruel traitors ) are good points of film.

Biyarre remains the conciliatory final, portrait of pure forced happiness , in which the little son, having the name of sex partner, the attitude of lady about him and the final kiss are...eccentric .

But, sure, nice idea, not awful compromise and a happy end not very frequent for gay stories.

The Landlady (I) (2022)
names , a cat...
29 May 2024
I do not know the story inspiring this short film. But I was just seduced by atmosphere - beautiful Gothic one - and by the fine performance of Frances Knows. A young man, in an isolated town, looking for hotel. A mistake, a too polite - nice lady and the thrill of the cold-dark truth behind her amability.

Fair construction of a story of mysteries and precise crafted end. You feel the tension from the first scenes but the end, almost brutal cut , like by a guilottine is just precious.

Like the game of seduction of lady , reminding a spider for capture her victim.

In short, not original but pretty fascinating.

Soviet flavor
29 May 2024
The Soviet flavor defines this charming bitter -sweet short film about the relation between a not so young man helping his daughter affected by a kind embarassing accident, depending by her husband, later by his father help.

A film about the clash between two profound different perspectives about life and the manner to manage a relation in which the regrets and the reproches are the only obvious reality.

The accent of father and the remind of his experiences, the manner to live of his girl are the poles of painfull and correct - precise, scene by scene conflict, the affection for the daughter, ignored in her childhood , used, in almost overreacting way being the main form of reconquest of past.

So, just charming, like old Russian song.

realistic . in some measure
28 May 2024
Two young ballerinas . The secret romance defining their relation. A role and the shadows of rivalry hidding the noble feelings one by other.

The gesture of partner of winner changes everything, offering the courage to show who she real is.

The first part, sweet poetic is the realistic one.

The end reminds , too much , the soap operas or soft Hallmark. But , sure, it has the gift of good acting and romantic flavor and ballet is always a seductive frame for love stories.

Modest seems be the fair term to define this short film. But it is too severe, honest being to not ignore the few good points and the fairy tale air.

being yourself

A wstern very different by what you expect or suppose. A story, at the first sight, more too simple. A man looking for revenge and punishing a guy, his wife for the capture and death of his sister and for barbarian burial of her body.

Some expressions of pure cruelty, some touching conclusions and plans for new life, memories about late mother and sisters, a drop of Of Mice and men.

And the black - white image as a veil of ash on facts of men, their words and decisions.

A nice crafted film, a well constructed story, fair moral. Simple conclusions about a bitter portrait of killer and his profound truths.

A Winning Team (2023 TV Movie)
pretty eccentric
28 May 2024
In general, the polite term for Hallmark films, in my case, was "nice". A Winning Team is ...eccentric. For a very forced romance between outgoing/ carefree trainer, less interested by the victory of team and too ambitious young soccer player , for the unrealistic end and for the brother of soccer player lady who is more indifferent or only emotional woody or Peter Pan syndrome example .

Sure, Kristopher Polaha and Nadia Hatta. A nice couple but, maybe, only on paper.

Because the film , looking for be original, offers strange to biyarre moral lessons .

Indeed, being myself carefree, I see with obvious sympathy Ian . But a Hallmark film, I suppose, offers some examples of ideal people in skin of modern fairy tale.

So, reasonable to eccentric sounds fair to define it.

Two brothers in way to their father funeral. The dialogues define the tensions between young men , with roots in the attitude of their father about each of them.

Reproches, frustrations, the decision to leave the hometown and the out law facts of one of them and a beautiful end define this touching short film about precious form of reconciliation.

The mix of bitterness, a frustrating event and the hope message represents the basic virtue of film , like the good perfoormances and the fair final of a story exploring, in gentle - smart manner, the vulnerability of two young men and their powerful connection.

One of poetic short films, as an embroidery of suggestions, about fundamental themes, fight to understand the near reality for a young woman, friendship , reconciliation with yourself.

The scenes of rain as heart of a story about way to accept things remaining cryptic and the discover of the grief of the other as free from yourselves.

Good acting, nice crafted story, fair portrait of deep loneliness and the fury defining youth in its frustrations levels. In short, just correct and courageous, sensitive and seductive. And , not last, offering wise perspective about near reality.

So, real great job .

last confession
28 May 2024
Beautiful crafted story, impresive travelling as seal of film, fair acting and powerful message.

Easy to define it as a real special film for wise used simplicity and the twist created by a confession on death bed.

A lady is crushed in a car accident.

Her husband visits her at hospital ; the son remains with the nurse. Icecream flavors and a joke of his father are pillars of conversation between nurse and boy. In same time , the conversation of couple becomes more and more tense , the insecurity of woman being by herself describe in bitter tones revealing her profound insecurity in relation.

Admirable performances, I repeat, well constructed tension and magnificent meanings of travelling.

a mother
27 May 2024
An overprotective mother of a teenager girl and her tennis coach.

A simple story about love, jealousy, supposition and radical manner to help, in forced way, her sentimental life.

Beautiful acting, fair dose of bitterness and care , admirable reflected by the acting of Emma Keele and the gentle - precise portrait of deep loneliness.

A film reminding old - familiar things, in sincere manner, with profound honesty .

And the pieces of story of Jo , like the care for career of her girl, the relation with her ex husband, the gesture for fail the relation of daughter her boyfriend + interesting for ambiguity and reflection of despere are more than good points for Jo.

sincretism
27 May 2024
For part of viewers, the sincretism, effect of intention to reconciliate positions about Moses in Judaism, Islam and Christianity represents the main sin.

For me, it is a nice good intentioned good point, not always efficient, sacrifieng essential details, proposing others , fruits of interpretations, using some tricks of soap opera and an end reminding a sort of Star Wars.

The problem, I think, it is too...short. A six- twelve parts were more reasonable because, after final scene, reflecting epuisation of storytelling, it remains only a sketch.

In final, a series about importance of Moses in the three Monoteistic religions. This is the basic message and, served by nice performances, it works just in decent manner.

honest job
27 May 2024
A sort of melancholia defines this last part of series. Not about the story, familiar, fair defined by specialists but for the end who, at the first sight, seems just forced, becoming honest , against the innovation of details.

Indeed, the temptation to critic it is not exactly small, but it is a real beautiful series and the good job of Avi Azulay, Mehmet Kurtulus and Ishai Golan is not nice to ignore.

It is a version for new generations and useful return for olders to the line discovered at early ages , in new perspectives and with new accents.

Not doubts, it is a Netflix miniseries, with all its sins and crumbs of virtues. But, not ignoring the target, it represents a voice fair to hear it. And this is one of main virtues.

A saphic relation between two very different young women Talks, cooking, games, dinner together. Nothing remarkable or new but seductive especially for image of violon playing behind a sort of soap bubble, in purple light.

The contrast between girls , one powerful, confident and defined by a sort of androginy , the other fragile, vulnerable, needing protection and help for confidence in herself is the real good point of film.

In short, a nice, sensitive story, good acting, inspired image and open end . The delicacy of define for characters as precious virtue , like the oniric light . A little gem.

Love on Harbor Island (2020 TV Movie)
correct
26 May 2024
Unfair to be too critic about this romance because Morgan Kohan and Marcus Rosner are more than OK in their roles, the humor, like the dialogues, work just well, the story works in honest way and predactibility is just a good spice .

Nothing special but pleasant . And this is the most important thing about Hallmark films , the chemistry between main actors is not absent and the great end, so familiar, is just nice prize for a reasonable film of genre.

So, not bad surprise, the clash between the good guy and lady from town being smart explored and the amusing moments being one of good points of it.

the specialists commentaries
25 May 2024
Impressive special effects , nice acting, fair crafted tension.

But each of them is not so surprising in AI age. The strange fact are the commentaries of specialits. Sure, it is an documentarz for large audience and the perspectives of Christian, Jew and Muslim specialits are just useful but not as a wall of unanimitz about details completing the original storz of Moses.

In fact, the ambition to give a scientific aspect to docu-drama can be considered as basic sin of mini-series.

Sure, a good fist of excuses. But is it enough ?Because I suppose, the story is familiar and the expectations are higher. But, sure, the status a Netflix story can be the best alibi.

Game of Love (2023)
I like it !
25 May 2024
Very surprising for me , but I admitt : just I like it !

The basic motives are three: the remind of childhood- first youth society games, Judith Maxie and the fair work of Kimberley Sustad and. Brooks Darnell.

I do not ignore the humor, fails of game, dialogues and the bizarre date in fancy restaurant of the first part. Or lovely young part of team.

A good charming film and this real matters when the recipe is more than familiar and the story becomes a kind of definition for film itself because , indeed, Game of Love is a ...game between director and audience or a form of parable of genre.

In short, just nice surprise.

One of simple stories , in clothes of parable, embroidery of metaphors and symbols about a childhood trauma changing the life of two brothers, each of them looking for protect himself . For one the try of integration, to offer expected answer from words, attitudes , punctuality is the fair way to adaptate to life.

For the other, a mix of generosity, fury, selfdistruction and chain of fights against past seems the best option.

For each of them works only loneliness, in its deep forms.

In short a gem of honest perspective about a painful reality, profound sensitive subject and portraits of escape from yourself.

Our Place (2024)
what real matters
25 May 2024
A beautiful demonstration of fair translation of emotions by Benjamin Stubbs. A man preparing for new day. At first sight, jogging as first piece of a good day. A touching monologue. A simple gesture.

In final, precise and touching definition of friendship, loneliness, loss, precious memories and the clash against today.

It seems a short film especially for people having same experience like the character. In fact, it is only a honest sketch of what real matters.

In simple- precise terms.

Beautiful for nice exploration of unspoken experiences. Good support ( or kick ) for reflection. A profound useful story reminding us to ourselves.

The Letter (III) (2024)
lines of letters
25 May 2024
Grace. In first moment, this is the virtue of The Letter.

The second - the smart game of director with audience of film ; you guess the end , you expect it and the clash between letters gives precious clues in this sense.

Like the encounter. Because it is portrait of painful decision, very late, very difficult accepted. And the acting serves more than beautiful the moving story of sad love story in which a litter, a bank are basic pieces of good bye in two forms.

Not exactly a film about saphic love but about the decision inspired by full affection for the beloved other and the need of explanation, against the conscience about its motif. In short, beautiful in profound sense.

James Jenkins
25 May 2024
The first impulse for define it was to write the word touching. Indeed, this is its main virtue, grace to beautiful acting of Benjamin Stubbs and Jacob Taylor, for fair reflection of the bitterness of isolation and gentle way to aproach the other, for the drawing and for little flower, for delicacy of details, from coffeee mug to the selfies.

An admirable work, with charming spring flavors, with honest - realistic portrait of isolation and nice end .

Maybe, a film about second chance . But great good point remains the wise crafted portrait, trait by trait, of James Jenkins and the fruit of fortuit meetings with Simon.
