Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” isn’t the most provocative song but its music video changed all that. The clip was set in a church and it created a firestorm of controversy for the “Espresso” singer. Carpenter reacted to these events with some of her trademark humor.
Sabrina Carpenter dismissed the controversy around ‘Feather’ by comparing herself to Jesus
The music video for “Feather” featured a bunch of men fighting each other to the death in an oddly bloody sequence for a pop video. Carpenter then dances around at their funeral in a Catholic Church. It’s not exactly a respectful portrayal of Christianity, which often promotes pacifism. Variety reports that the clip was filmed in a Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The priest who gave her permission to film there was removed from administrative duties and the building was re-blessed.
The “Please Please Please” star explained her feelings about all this.

One of Madonna‘s husbands directed a controversial music video for her. The violent clip was only played on MTV during certain hours. Arguably, the lyrics of the song in question were a lot more provocative than anything that happened in the video.
Madonna’s husband directed a music video about horrific road rage
Madonna was married to film director Guy Ritchie, known for films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and the live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin. His films are often violent. It was almost inevitable that Ritchie and Madonna would make a music video together and that it would be provocative.
During a 2002 interview with CNN, Madonna discussed working with her husband. “For a song called ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl,’ and I loved working with him on that,” the “La Isla Bonita” singer said. “And that we did a five minute...

Many famous artists such as Adele, Sam Smith, and Paul McCartney made tunes for 007 movies. When Madonna wrote her James Bond theme song, she wanted to bring the Cold War spy into the modern era with a certain genre of music. The tune is a touch on the divisive side. Here’s why it deserves a lot more love than it gets.
Madonna wanted to make James Bond ‘get techno’
Madonna wrote and performed the titular song from the James Bond thriller Die Another Day. During a 2002 interview with CNN, Madonna was asked if she felt that the people behind James Bond expected her to accept their offer to write a 007 theme song. “Well, no, I hemmed and hawed about it for a while because just for that reason though,” the “La Isla Bonita” singer said. “Everybody wants to do the theme song of a James Bond movie,...

Sabrina Carpenter is a master of the art of the music video and her clip for “Please Please Please” is no exception. The storyline for the video might be a little confusing to viewers who aren’t huge fans of the “Espresso” singer. Carpenter revealed that the music video for “Please Please Please” was connected to one of her previous hits. Interestingly, “Please Please Please” also drew inspiration from a number of classic movies.
Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ is a sequel to ‘Espresso’
According to a 2024 Vogue article, Carpenter reflected on the popularity of her single “Espresso.” “I’m feeling like I will never pay for another coffee again, and I’m so grateful and excited for people to hear the whole record,” she said. “It’s so close to me!”
The “Nonsense” singer said that the “Please Please Please” singer was a sequel to the “Espresso” video.

Griffin Dunne’s memoir is full of wonderful tales about Martin Scorsese, Carrie Fisher and Madonna. But the killing in 1982 of his 22-year-old sister – and the subsequent trial – overshadows everything
Griffin Dunne has just written a book. He had been meaning to do so for ages. It was one of the items on his bucket list: learn a musical instrument, master Spanish and write his damn memoir. “One down, two to go,” he says, beaming in via video link from his home in upstate New York. The actor and film-maker turns 69 this weekend. He reckons that still leaves him time for the music and Spanish.
Dunne imagined his memoir as a family portrait in the style of David Sedaris’s Me Talk Pretty One Day. He pictured something light on its toes, witty and poignant, a weave of essays and anecdotes. But then the book changed direction, as though it...

Known as the ‘Queen of Pop’ throughout her artistic career, Madonna rose to solo stardom in 1983 with her self-titled debut studio album. That meant that sooner or later, she would have had to interact with ‘King of Pop’: Michael Jackson.
Yes, they were pals, but how did these iconic music legends really get along with each other? While countless iconic duos have left their mark on the entertainment industry, none has teased the collective heart of pop culture as much as Madonna and Jackson’s alleged relationship. Despite their brief stint at the 1991 Academy Awards that set tongues wagging about a potential romance, it wasn’t the allure of love but a complex friendship marred with disagreements that distinguished their bond.

Back in early 2000, Jackson, with heartfelt transparency, unspooled his thoughts on life, love, and Madonna, revealing a friction that had both stars at odds.

Madonna‘s “Like a Virgin” was a little edgy in its day, but the controversy didn’t stop it from becoming a major hit for the Material Girl. If a song with a similar sentiment came out today, it would inspire an endless internet discourse. Many listeners would find “Like a Virgin” offensive today, but not for the reasons it was offensive in 1984.
Why Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ was controversial the 1st time
The Miami Herald reports that “Like a Virgin” was controversial when it came out in 1984 because of its brazen sexuality. Using the word “virgin” in a pop song was very provocative. While the tune was intended as a love song, the Queen of Pop’s vocals made it sound more sensual than amorous.
Today, the track would be seen as fetishizing virginity. Obviously, people can be virgins at any age. However, people tend to associate virginity with teenagers.

Over the course of his 40-plus years as a talk show host, David Letterman weathered his fair share of uncomfortable celebrity encounters, including Madonna’s F-bomb-filled 1994 Late Show visit. But few moments were as painful to watch as the time Michael Richards showed up—via satellite—to apologize for a racist outburst that had occurred during a comedy show just three days earier.
In Entrances and Exits, a new memoir from the man best known as Seinfeld’s quirky Cosmo Kramer, Richards opens up about that infamous on-air mea culpa.
The story began on the evening of November 17, 2006, when Richards imploded his career with a single tirade while performing at Hollywood’s Laugh Factory. When a rowdy audience member decided to heckle Richards by declaring him “not funny,” the actor—who was attempting to ease his way back into the standup comedy scene—lost it.

Madonna and Michael Jackson will always be the King and Queen of Pop, regardless of what thoughtless clickbait articles say. Madonna revealed that she didn’t write songs the way that the “Thriller” singer did. She said doing so would be bad for her mental health. Interestingly, Madonna explained what goes through her mind when she writes tunes.
Madonna would hate to work on songs as long as Michael Jackson did
During a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, the “Like a Virgin” singer discussed what happened when she learned to play guitar. “I started writing immediately,” she said. “For a couple years I practiced the guitar two hours a day and the drums four hours a day. But as I got more involved in the things you have to do to make records and videos and go on tour, I just stopped playing.”
Madonna was asked if she was able to write songs in 15 minutes.

Madonna‘s “Express Yourself” is such a good dance track that its lyrics are easy to overlook. The Material Girl explained what she was trying to say when she wrote the song. Notably, the tune came from an album that produced numerous hits.
Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ has some relationship advice
During a 1989 interview with The New York Times, the Queen of Pop discussed her attitude toward music. “What I do is total commercialism, but it’s also art,” said Madonna. “I like the challenge of doing both, of somehow making art that is accessible and making commerce something artistic.” That’s why the whole world loved Madonna!
She explained the meaning of her then-recent song “Express Yourself.” “The message of the song is that people should always say what it is they want,” the “Like a Virgin” singer said. “The reason relationships don’t work is because they are afraid.

Madonna‘s “4 Minutes” is about having four minutes to save the world. If you thought that was weird, the Material Girl connected the song’s lyrics to environmentalism. That has to be one of the biggest stretches in the history of popular music. In addition, the Queen of Pop revealed what it was like to work on the song with Justin Timberlake.
Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes’ is about having fun while being an environmentalist
Many of Madonna’s hits revolve around normal pop song topics, such as love, sex, and dancing. Meanwhile, Madonna’s “4 Minutes” is about having only four minutes to save the world. That premise is so odd that it’s hard to take it at face value.
During a 2008 interview with MTV News, the Queen of Pop was asked about the meaning of “4 Minutes.” “Well, I don’t think it’s important to take it too literally,” she said.

Madonna‘s movie A League of Their Own received a warm reception from audiences. On the other hand, the “Like a Prayer” singer publicly criticized the movie. She didn’t think it lived up to two classic movies that she considered works of art. However, the Queen of Pop didn’t completely dismiss A League of Their Own.
Madonna said ‘A League of Their Own’ ‘candy-coated’ a fascinating story
A League of Their Own is loosely based on the history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which paved the way for a lot of women’s sports leagues. During a 1992 interview with The Guardian, the Material Girl said the film reified the concept of the American Dream. She was asked if the movie was “phony.” “It depends on who’s telling the story,” she said. “There are people that have their own views of America.

Madonna is the best dance-pop singer ever. However, Madonna still produced some of the best pop ballads to grace the Billboard Hot 100. Here’s a look at her five best slow songs.
5. ‘Live to Tell’
“Live to Tell” has a certain mystery that few Madonna ballads possess. The song’s theme of internality was the first moment in Madonna’s career where it felt like she might have hidden depths. Many emotional Madonna projects owe a depth of gratitude to “Live to Tell,” such as “Take a Bow,” “Don’t Tell Me,” and Ray of Light.
Perhaps the best part of “Live to Tell” is its signature synthesizer riff. It’s one of the Material Girl‘s best musical moments. While the song itself is innocuous, the “Like a Virgin” singer courted controversy by performing the song while feigning crucifixion.
4. ‘Crazy for You’
The best songs portray a love that sounds almost desperate.

A League of Their Own might be Madonna‘s most beloved movie. While the film holds up, people don’t often speak of the hit single that came out of it. Here’s what the Queen of Pop had to say about the film and the song.
Madonna wrote a ballad for ‘A League of Their Own’
Madonna is the Queen of Pop, but she generally wasn’t the Queen of Movies. For every hit like Evita she starred in, the Material Girl starred in four or five embarrassing flops. One of the most beloved bright spots in her film career was A League of Their Own, an ensemble comedy about women in baseball.
During a 1992 interview with The Guardian, Madonna discussed her attitude toward making movies. “It’s not something you can just go, ‘Ok, I’ve got an idea I’m going to go into the studio and record and put it out,...

Pop icon Madonna was hit with a lawsuit this week over her Celebration Tour after a Southern California man filed a complaint saying the massive stadium show he attended in L.A. forced him to view what he called sexually explicit content and caused him emotional distress.
Justen Lipeles filed a class action complaint, which was obtained on Friday by The Hollywood Reporter, against the singer, Live Nation and other entities involved with the Celebration Tour on Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, months after he attended her March 7 concert at L.A.’s Kia Forum; the show is based entirely on her back catalog and 40-year career. He accuses the pop star and organizers involved of negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false advertising and breach of written contract.

Madonna has been hit with yet another lawsuit tied to her ongoing Celebration tour, but rather than just alleging that the shows started too late, this new suit claims she pushed pornography upon concert attendees.
In the lawsuit reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, Justen Lipeles — who attended Madonna’s Los Angeles show at the Kia Forum — alleged that attendees were exposed to “pornography without warning,” including “topless women on stage simulating sex acts.” Aside from that allegation, Lipeles’ suit contained the same claims that had surfaced in recent months: that the...

Madonna had many famous boyfriends over the years, but only one of her boyfriends tried to run her over in a music video. The video in question is just awful. At least when Madonna opened up about the clip, she explained her taste in men.
1 of Madonna’s boyfriends appeared in her most random music video ever
Madonna had a relationship with John “Jellybean” Benitez, who produced the two most famous tunes from her self-titled debut album: “Holiday” and “Lucky Star.” During a 1985 interview with Spin, Madonna revealed the man she dated before Benitez had some issues with her. “The longest monogamous relationship I’ve had was two-and-three-quarter years, right before Jellybean, with someone who never wants to see me again,” she said.
“He’s the guy trying to run me over in my ‘Burning Up’ video,” she said. “It wasn’t just because I was seeing someone else. Our relationship was deteriorating anyway.

Depending on how you understand it, Madonna‘s “Like a Virgin” might be a tune about virginity loss. The “Dress You Up” singer shot down that interpretation. She didn’t have kind words for virginal men.
What Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ is really about
During a 1985 interview with Spin, the Queen of Pop revealed she can be a little picky when it comes to choosing sexual partners. “I wouldn’t like to sleep with a guy who was a virgin,” she said. “I’d have to teach him stuff and I don’t have the patience. I’d rather deal with experience.”
The Material Girl said listeners shouldn’t interpret her hit single “Like a Virgin” too literally. “When I say ‘virgin,’ like in my song, I’m not thinking about [a] sexual virgin,” she explained. “I mean newness. Even after I made love for the first time, I still...

Poor Madonna, the pop star just cannot stop getting sued. She’s just been hit with another class action lawsuit, this time from a disgruntled fan who alleges her “Celebration Tour” was overly sexual and disrespectful to fans.
As reported by TMZ, a fan named Justen Lipeles filed the suit against Madonna, claiming that concertgoers were presented with “pornography without warning” and were “forced to watch topless women on stage simulating sex acts.” He also alleges that the artist encouraged fans to strip, though, reportedly, it was less of a sexual request and had more to do with the high temperatures within the venue.
Lipeles was also unhappy with the performance, as the suit also includes complaints related to the show’s delayed start, alleged instances of lip-syncing, and the aforementioned high temperatures, which he claims caused him and others to become physically sick.

Madonna‘s songs ruled the 1980s and the 1990s. However, one song proved that she could have been a 1950s goddess if she had been born at a different time. Interestingly, the track was inspired by a movie star.
Madonna wrote a love song inspired by Sean Penn
Madonna had a high-profile relationship with actor Sean Penn. During a 1986 interview with The New York Times, the Material Girl revealed that Penn inspired her to write “True Blue.” The track was supposed to represent Penn’s “pure vision of love.” She called the song “True Blue” because that was one of Penn’s favorite sayings.
“True Blue” is a 1950s/1960s style doo-wop love song. Part of what makes it better than its influences is the way it plays with tone. The track is bright and sunny in parts but it also acknowledges how the search for true love can be a struggle.

Beyoncé‘s solo success was once difficult for her former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland to watch. The singer felt she was in Beyoncé’s shadow, which took a toll on their friendship. But years later, Rowland gained enough clarity to share her feelings on the situation through a song.
Kelly Rowland played ‘Dirty Laundry’ for Beyoncé Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé, and Michelle Williams | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Rowland has been very open about her insecurities regarding Beyoncé’s post-Destiny’s Child success. Beyoncé thrived after breaking away from the group, having sold over 200 million records worldwide on her own. Even back in their Destiny’s Child days, Rowland felt she was playing second fiddle to the artist. That feeling only intensified after the group’s separation.

Many of Madonna‘s songs were blockbuster hits. On the other hand, one of the “Like a Prayer” star‘s best tunes was less appreciated by listeners. It’s a great fusion of genres with some clever and cutting lyrics. Here’s a Madonna tune that deserves a second look.
1 of Madonna’s songs was inspired by a backlash to Bdsm
First, some background. Madonna delved into the world of Bdsm with her album Erotica. Predictably, the record and especially the title song shocked a lot of listeners. The Queen of Pop had been a provocateur for most of her career, but with Erotica, she went further than she ever had before. The music video for Erotica‘s title track still feels risque today.
Her next album, Bedtime Stories, was a step back. It included innocuous ballads, such as “Secret” and “Take a Bow,” as well as the airy avant-garde experiment “Bedtime Story.

Lana Del Rey covered a song from Madonna‘s most famous movie. Del Rey is so much better suited to the tune than the Material Girl ever was. Interestingly, Del Rey explained why she decided to cover the track in the first place and it had nothing to do with her feelings about Madonna. Instead, Del Rey intended her cover as a tribute to another prominent musician.

The music video for Madonna‘s “Cherish” was part of a childhood memory for Kim Kardashian. Kardashian knew the Material Girl from a young age and said many positive things about her. Interestingly, “Cherish” was a major change of pace for Madonna at a time when she was known for scandals.
Kim Kardashian was there when Madonna shot ‘Cherish’
Madonna was known for her provocative music videos. For her love song “Cherish,” she toned down her image. The black-and-white video depicts the “True Blue” singer frolicking at the beach with a group of mermen. For an artist whose videography includes Bdsm, burning crosses, and kisses with Britney Spears, “Cherish” was a rare moment of wholesome innocence — even if the camera lingers a lot on the bodies of Madonna and her aquatic friends.
In a 2018 Facebook post, Kardashian discussed her feelings about the Material Girl. “You guys don’t even understand...

Madonna‘s “Cherish” sounds like a normal, if abnormally infectious, hit song. Notably, the Material Girl said she was not in a normal frame of mind when she wrote it. The track has an interesting connection to several other Madonna hits.
Madonna revealed what she thinks when she writes hit songs
In the late 1980s, Madonna’s image became even more provocative. With the release of her album Like a Prayer, the singer attacked the church with the album’s title track, embraced feminism with “Express Yourself,” and denounced her father in the tune “Oh Father.” One of the least inflammatory tracks on the album is the peppy love song “Cherish.” While much of Like a Prayer sounded current and hip, “Cherish” sounds like it’s from the 1950s or early 1960s.
During a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, Carrie Fisher asked Madonna if she had ever written tunes during a manic high.

Madonna‘s “Express Yourself” was a bold new chapter for the Material Girl, as it changed her musical style and persona. The Queen of Pop said she included “extreme” images of herself in the music video. This caused controversy, and the “Like a Virgin” singer elaborated on what was going through her head when he made the clip.
Madonnas’ ‘Express Yourself’ music video is based on a classic movie
“Express Yourself” is an important milestone in Madonna’s career for two reasons. First, it was the “Holiday” singer‘s first feminist anthem. As time went on, feminism became a huge part of her image. Second, it was her most extravagant music video yet, with sets modeled on the epic science fiction film Metropolis. Even today, the special effects look impressive.

Madonna‘s worst songs are, at least, bizarrely awful. They’re the sort of bad tunes that could only come from someone with the Material Girl’s ambition. One of them is possibly the only pop song to include the word “spanky.”
1. ‘Hanky Panky’
Writing a jazz tune called “Hanky Panky” is a horribly kitschy move. Madonna makes “Hanky Panky” even worse by rhyming “hanky panky” with “spanky.” Yes, this is a pop tune about erotic spanking. The fact that this hit No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 is mind-boggling.
For her movie Dick Tracy, Madonna went retro and released an album of retro jazz tunes. Going retro would be another artist’s excuse to be innocent and sweet, but Madonna instead had to find a way to write a dirty song for a children’s movie. It’s no wonder this embarrassing novelty has been forgotten.

In more recent times, the first medical drama that seems to come to everybody’s mind is Grey’s Anatomy. It is now airing its 20th season, and, although not many people consider it to be as good as it was in the 2000s, there are still enough viewers to keep the show going and renewed for more years.
There are also such series as Chicago Med, or The Good Doctor, which nears its ending after becoming an internet phenomenon. However, none of them are coming close to the greatness of a scandal that prompted ABC to get rid of its 2000 medical show Wonderland.
Why Was the TV Show Wonderland Canceled?
Like almost every other TV show that isn't renewed on the network, Wonderland was officially canceled due to low ratings. What's so peculiar about this show, however, is that it wasn't canceled after just one unsuccessful season, as is often the case.

Madonna released songs across numerous genres, so it’s no wonder the Material Girl has worked with so many other superstars. Rock stars, big-name rappers, and indie music darlings all lined up to collaborate with the Queen of Pop. One of the most beloved rock stars of the 1990s even wrote a No. 1 single for Madonna.
1. ‘Beat Goes On’
With that title, fans might assume Sonny & Cher wrote Madonna’s “Beat Goes On,” but it was actually co-written by Madonna, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West. Interestingly, Pharrell and Kanye wrote a disco song with Madonna rather than a hip-hop song. With star power like that, it’s surprising “Beat Goes On” was never a single.

“Bridgerton” Season 3 is here, and with it comes a new collection of string covers of iconic pop songs. The Shondaland Netflix series made a mark with its first season by packing the regency-era period story with string quartet covers of modern pop songs, and the trend continues in the new season that puts the focus on a romance between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton).
“Bridgerton” Season 3 Part 1 also features the Netflix show’s first-ever original song: “All I Want” is written by Rogét Chahayed (Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More”), Wesley Singerman (Jennifer Lopez’s “Butterfly”), Taylor Dexter (Joji’s “Die for You”) and Nicole Cohen (Meghan Trainor’s “Sensitive”). Tori Kelly performs the song on the soundtrack, and the orchestral version was arranged by “Bridgerton” composer Kris Bowers.

Madonna‘s Erotica was a bold new direction for the singer. It still includes a reference to one of her biggest hits: “Vogue.” The producer behind Erotica explained why he and Madonna included that reference.
The connection between Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ and ‘Erotica’
Shep Pettibone is a dance artist who produced Madonna’s “Vogue.” After that, he collaborated with the Material Girl on Erotica, her most daring album. One hit song from that album, “Deeper and Deeper,” almost sounds like a downbeat take on “Vogue.” It even reuses the lyrics “Let your body move to the music.”
During a 2015 interview with Billboard, Pettibone was asked if he and the Queen of Pop intentionally included the “Vogue” shoutout in “Deeper and Deeper.” “Oh yeah, definitely,” he said. “We got to that point and we’re like, ‘What the hell. Let’s have fun with it.’ We had a lot of fun doing that album.

Few singers were as good at making music videos as Madonna. Madonna’s “Express Yourself” inspired one of her best clips but it has a major error. The video doesn’t totally sync with the music! One of Madonna’s most famous producers explained why this is the case.
The music video for Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ has nonsensical horns
Shep Pettibone is a dance music artist who is most known for his work on Madonna’s “Vogue,” as well as some of her lesser-known singles such as “Deeper and Deeper,” “This Used to Be My Playground,” and “Erotica.” Before that, he crafted remixes for the Material Girl. During a 2015 interview with Billboard, Pettibone explained how one of his remixes created an incongruity in the “Express Yourself” music video.
“[The ‘Express Yourself’ remix] was a total reproduction and I totally rewrote the music,” he recalled. “And I really started from scratch with ‘Express Yourself.

The main character of the new season of Bridgerton is Penelope Featherington. But there is no bright spot in Penelope's life. Both of her sisters have married, and the girl is forced to listen to their mockery of the fact that she will remain an old maid.
Pen has been a fan favorite for the past two seasons, but as the focus shifted to her, the audience's love for her grew even more. If you have already watched the first part of the third season of Bridgerton and were fascinated by Nicola Coughlan, who plays Pen, then you will definitely be interested in another project where she plays one of the main roles.
On Netflix, you can find one of the most critically acclaimed British dramedies of recent years (99% on Rotten Tomatoes) starring Nicola Coughlan — a historical series about the military conflict in Northern Ireland called Derry Girls.

For more than 60 years, Bob Mackie has reigned as the over-the-top couturier for Hollywood’s elite. After gaining attention as the costumer for The Carol Burnett Show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Cher’s solo variety show, the designer became the go-to choice for divas like Judy Garland, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Madonna and Elton John, and created clothes for 60 Barbies. In the process he won an impressive nine Emmys, a Tony and a Cfda lifetime achievement award, plus three Oscar nominations.
Now with a long-awaited documentary devoted to his life in showbiz, Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, arriving this summer (a distribution deal has not yet been finalized), the so-called Sultan of Sequins, Rajah of Rhinestones and Guru of Glitter seems to be having yet another major moment, with his archival pieces worn today by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy and Zendaya.
“It’s kind of weird,” the 85-year-old designer tells THR.

‘If you see one movie this summer, see Star Wars. If you see a second, see Austin Powers.’ Thus spake trailer-man, in the teaser for Mike Myers’s upcoming comedy sequel, and to a great extent, that’s exactly what happened in the summer of 1999. Well, almost.
The 20th century was running out of time and that summer was impatiently filled with as many tantalising prospects as any big movie season in recent memory. It appeared to be the summer of comebacks. Following Terrence Malick’s long-awaited return to directing in the recently-released The Thin Red Line, Summer ’99 would see not only George Lucas but Stanley Kubrick making their much-delayed encores – though we knew by then that this was actually Kubrick’s swan song.
An exercise in peak-nostalgia seemed inevitable, but the season proved to be full of surprises. None more so than the success of that second Austin Powers film,...

Billy Eichner is finally getting to live out his childhood dream of a being in a major stage musical.
The “Bros” star is making his Hollywood Bowl singing debut this weekend during “The Lion King’s” 30th anniversary live-to-film concert.
“We just had our first official rehearsal all together this morning,” Eichner told me Wednesday afternoon. “The scope and size of it really knocked me out. If I can get through it, I think it’s going to be really fun.”
Eichner, who played Timon in the 2019 “Lion King” remake and reprises the role in the upcoming prequel film “Mufasa: The Lion King,” isn’t allowed to say what he’ll be performing. But it has already been announced that the two-night run — May 24 and 25 — will also feature “Lion King” veterans Nathan Lane, Jeremy Irons, Ernie Sabella, Heather Headley, Lebo M and Jason Weaver, as well as Egot winner Jennifer Hudson,...

The world should value consent. However, Madonna‘s “Erotica” was banned from MTV for depicting consensual roleplay. The Queen of Pop had a surprising reaction to this development. One of the musicians behind Madonna’s album Erotica also had some perceptive things to say about the controversy.
Madonna’s ‘Erotica’ was pulled from MTV for being ‘repellent’
Madonna’s music video for “Erotica” looks like a rediscovered print of a black-and-white silent film about the Folsom Street Fair. It’s grainy, disorientingly edited, and niche in a way that’s generally anathema to a mass-market pop offering. The video has a lot of images that nobody would want to watch with their grandma. The Material Girl had previously explored Bdsm in her music videos for “Express Yourself” and “Justify My Love,” but she took things to a new level of explicitness with “Erotica.” After all, the music video had to...

To most, Madonna‘s Like a Virgin was a fun slice of dance music. On the other hand, her father found it mortifying. He wasn’t any happier when pictures of his daughter appeared in Playboy. The “Express Yourself” singer once released a ballad about her father, and the picture it paints is not flattering.
Madonna’s father didn’t want to talk about ‘Like a Virgin’
During a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, Madonna was asked about how her father, Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone, reacted to a risque performance from her film Madonna: Truth or Dare. She avoided the question. “I don’t know if he’s seen all the other things I’ve done,” she said. “I’m sure when the nude pictures in Playboy and the album Like a Virgin came out, he went through a period of extreme shock.” While tame today, nude pictures and Like a...

Madonna is the sort of fiercely driven artist who usually seems to get her way. On the other hand, Madonna’s producer told her he would change part of “Vogue” whether she liked it or not. Here is how that turned out.
Madonna battled her producer over the ‘Vogue’ bass lines
Shep Pettibone is a dance artist who worked with the Queen of Pop on tunes like “Deeper and Deeper,” “Rain,” “This Used to Be My Playground,” and, of course, “Vogue.” During a 2015 interview with Billboard, Pettibone discussed how “Vogue” came together.
“Um … the piano was added, for instance, after she sang the song,” he said. “The bass lines in the verses were changed to make them go with the verse better. Before that I think it’d just been like a two-bar loop of the bass line throughout the entire song — which she liked.
