“Eric” and “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult” were the two most-watched original series in the U.S. during the week of May 31-June 6.
“Eric,” Netflix’s Benedict Cumberbatch-led limited series, had the highest number of minutes watched in its first full week of availability, clocking in at 1.1 billion, while the TikTok docuseries followed at 714.6 million minutes watched. While both demonstrated strong viewership, “Eric” took first place thanks to the benefit of its five-plus-hour runtime; in views, “Dancing for the Devil” hit an estimated 4.4 million people, while “Eric” came in second with 3.3 million.
In terms of minutes watched and views, both titles edged out “Bridgerton” Season 3, which has dominated the charts since its debut. With 432.3 million minutes watched, the Regency-era drama was the No. 4 series in its third week of availability, ranking just behind “Geek Girl” (439.7 million), though “Bridgerton” did get more views (2 million vs. 1.3 million). Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Hugh Jackman is set to star in Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and I was not prepared for the synopsis. Let’s get right to it.
Based on Leonie Swann’s international bestseller, the film follows George Hardy (Jackman), “a shepherd who loves his sheep and raises them only for their wool. Every night, he reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand, never suspecting that not only can they understand, but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The local cop Tim Derry, on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means...

Netflix’s live roast of NFL great Tom Brady made it into the Nielsen streaming rankings for its premiere, despite only being available for a few hours of that week. After its first full week on the streamer, it rocketed to the top of the charts.
The Roast of Tom Brady gathered 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the week of May 6-12, leading all streaming titles by a wide margin (the second-place finisher, Grey’s Anatomy, had 1.11 billion minutes of watch time for the week). The roast also had by far the biggest weekly viewing tally ever for a Netflix special; the previous high was 798 million minutes for Chris Rock’s stand-up special Selective Outrage in March 2023.
The 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the roast in the United States translates to about 27.87 million hours, or about two thirds of Netflix’s reported worldwide total (42.2 million hours) for the special that week.

Exclusive: Perry Mattfeld (In The Dark) and Frankie A. Rodriguez (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) have been tapped as leads opposite Glen Powell in Chad Powers, Hulu‘s upcoming half-hour comedy series based on an Eli Manning sketch that aired on ESPN+. In addition to Powell, Mattfeld and Rodriguez join recently cast Steve Zahn.
Co-created and executive produced by Powell and Michael Waldron, the series follows a hotshot quarterback (Powell) whose college career ends after bad behavior. He then disguises himself as the talented and affable Chad Powers, who walks onto a struggling Southern football team.
Mattfeld will play the sweet and smart Ricky, the first female assistant football coach in Catfish History (University of Nashville) who is also the daughter of Catfish Head Coach, Jake Hudson (Zahn). On the job for two months, she is fast-talking, pumped and eager to play a key role in the upcoming season.

Universal is enrolling in Mattel’s Monster High, with the studio and the toy brand teaming up on a feature that will be produced by Akiva Goldsman.
The Monster High toy line debuted in 2010 and centered on the teenage children of monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman as they grow up and deal with the trials and tribulations of high school. This is the latest in a flurry of deals between Mattel and Hollywood studios as it continues to exploit its IP following the $1.446 billion success of last year’s Barbie.
“Monster High helps fans discover the great beauty in being true to yourself and celebrates the unique sensibilities at the core of who we are as individuals. We’re proud to partner with Universal Pictures and the brilliant Akiva Goldsman to usher this important message to audiences worldwide,” said Mattell Films boss Robbie Brenner.

Law & Order very nearly became the longest-running crime drama on television. If it hadn't been for a 10-year hiatus, it would have reached its 24th season a long time ago.
Thanks to that break, sister show Law & Order: Svu has pulled ahead by two seasons.
Still, Law & Order is one of NBC's most iconic shows, from its "dun dun" chime between scenes to its filming on location in New York City. It's high time for a cast and character guide to help you keep track of who you can expect to see (and not see!) during Law & Order Season 24.
Two Characters Are Not Coming Back
Many viewers were shocked when Jack McCoy (Sam Waterson) left Law & Order after over 400 episodes.
Waterson had been with the series since Season 4 and was probably more closely identified with it than any other character.

The Idea of You has broken streaming records for Prime Video, launched the fictional boy band August Moon onto the Billboard charts and cemented star Nicholas Galitzine as Hollywood’s Next Big Thing.

Bluey-mania continues.
The Disney+ series was at the top of Nielsen’s streaming charts with nearly 1.2B minutes viewed from April 29 to May 5. The new episodes that dropped the week prior surely gave it a boost, but Bluey is a mainstay on this list, racking up over a billion minutes pretty frequently.
In fact, Nielsen points out that Bluey has been in the overall Top 10 for well over a year now, and this marks its fourth time at No. 1.
It should also not surprise anyone that Grey’s Anatomy came in second place with around 1.1B minutes viewed. It’s unclear what is prompting this resurgence in the medical drama, since it’s been available on both Hulu and Netflix for quite a while.
Fallout fell to third place this week but still posted over a billion minutes viewed, which is quite impressive for the eight-episode Amazon series. It was No.

The Netflix special roasting NFL great Tom Brady made it onto the streaming charts for the week it premiered — despite it only being up for a few hours of that week.
The Roast of Tom Brady racked up 279 million minutes for the week of April 29-May 5, good for 10th place among original series in Nielsen’s rankings. The special streamed live on May 5, meaning it tallied those viewing minutes in under 12 hours. (With a running time of almost three hours, the 279 million minutes equate to about 1.6 million complete runs of the special.)
Bluey moved back into the top overall spot with 1.18 billion minutes of viewing on Disney+, adding to its total as the most streamed title in the United States so far this year (21.73 billion minutes and counting). Before landing his latest big role as He-Man in the live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Amazon MGM and Mattel, actor Nicholas Galitzine took on a slew of roles in projects that happened to come out pretty close together. If you’re wondering where you’ve seen him before, it may have been alongside Camila Cabello in Prime Video’s Cinderella (2021), as a different royal Prince Henry in the adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s Red White & Royal Blue (2023) with the streamer or even as Harry Styles-inspired Hayes Cambell of the boyband August Moon in his latest flick The Idea of You (2024) alongside Anne Hathaway.

"He's going to hurt her, and I will have to kill him." The realest line in this. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a romantic comedy called A Family Affair, the latest movie directed by Richard Lagravenese. This seems like another "we have to do this too" version of the exact same story from Prime Video's The Idea of You. They're almost the same plot, except in this one the guy is a movie star, not a pop star, who falls for the "older woman." A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother, and her movie star boss Chris Cole, as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity. Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron star in this romcom, along with Joey King, Liza Koshy, Sherry Cola, and Kathy Bates. Well this looks pretty awful, not a single funny line in here and everything else is super cringe.

The Idea of You, focusing on a love story between the single mother and the band’s frontman, has blown up Prime Video’s Top 10. Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s hit film dominates the chart for a whole month, and here’s why.
This top-tier romcom explores the possibility of romance between people with significant age differences. Of course, such a leitmotif is nothing new in cinema, as we saw Carol (2015), Licorice Pizza (2021) and May December (2023). However, the most cultish film following the same topic was released long before The Idea of You, in 1967.
Its plot revolves around Benjamin Braddock, a 21-year-old college graduate with no plans for the future. Ended up doing nothing at his parents' house, he gets unexpectedly seduced by an older woman, Mrs. Robinson, who is tired of her household and marriage.
Soon enough Benjamin falls for another woman, who turns out to be his lover’s daughter,...

Robinne Lee, author of the novel The Idea of You, recently opened up about her dissatisfaction with the film adaptation’s ending. The movie, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, diverges significantly from her original conclusion. Speaking in an interview, Lee elaborated on the stark contrasts between the book and its cinematic counterpart. The novel’s ending, she pointed out, carries a depth and realism that she felt was lost onscreen. She said, I wanted this book to feel French to me. I wanted a French ending. I wanted the person to leave the theater and be like, ‘Whoa! We have to...

The Regency era dominated TV screens during the week of May 17-23, as “Bridgerton” took not one, not two, but three top spots on Luminate’s weekly streaming ranking charts.
In its first full week of availability, Season 3 Part 1 of the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series hit 2.3 billion minutes watched, the No. 1 title by far. Season 1 took second place with 498.6 million minutes watched, followed by Season 2 with 434 million minutes watched. It’s clear that “Bridgerton” will continue to dominate streaming rankings for weeks to come, not only because of the show’s obvious popularity, but because Season 3 still has four episodes yet to come on June 13.
Two titles tied as the next-most-watched of the week: Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video's "Outer Range," which was the No. 4 TV series, and Netflix's "Mother of the Bride," the top movie. Both were watched for 256.4 million minutes in their first full weeks of availability.

In Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, it’s hard to miss the enchanting presence of the Tag Heuer Aquaracer. Far from being just an accessory, this timepiece plays a significant and symbolic role, effectively becoming a ‘third character’ in the movie. The Idea of You, now streaming on Prime Video, has stirred mixed reactions among its fans, especially due to its ending. Robinne Lee, the author of the book behind the movie, has been vocal about her preferences for the original narrative’s conclusion. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Robinne Lee revealed that she was not involved at all in the adaptation process and had not even met the director, Michael Showalter. She further added, You hope they’ll keep to what you’ve written because it meant something to you, but you also have to think about the box office and viewers

Netflix’s rom-com “Mother of the Bride” and Will Forte crime drama series “Bodkin” led the Luminate streaming originals chart for the week of May 10-16, elbowing past higher-profile competition.
Two buzzy streaming original movies — Netflix’s “Unfrosted” and Amazon Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” — held up well in their second full week in release. The Jake Gyllenhaal starrer “Road House” continues to be a work horse for Prime Video, which confirmed earlier this week that a second installment is in development. A surprise on the original film chart was Netflix documentary “Living with Leopards,” which debuted at No. 7.
“Bodkin,” which revolves around a podcast crew that comes to investigate the disappearance of three people from a small town in Ireland years before, moved swiftly up the original streaming series chart, passing Netflix’s “A Man in Full.” The Jeff Daniels’ starrer came in at No. 2 in its second full week in release.

Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman knows her way around a theatrical release. From “Crash” to “The Woman King,” the long-time Hollywood heavy-hitter has wide-ranging taste that’s earned her both a Best Picture win and millions of box office bucks. But as the theatrical landscape shifts — heck, as the entire entertainment industry shifts — Schulman is staying nimble. These days, that means something that would have sounded crazy a decade ago: a massive hit that goes straight to streaming.
That’s the case with Schulman’s latest, the Michael Showalter-directed Amazon MGM Studios smash “The Idea of You,” a sexy rom-com-dram based on Robinne Lee’s bestselling novel and starring Anne Hathaway and rising star Nicholas Galitzine. In just two weeks on Prime Video, the film has smashed up all sorts of streaming records, handily proving that people do want to watch at home, they will turn out for a streaming-only release,...

Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s age-gap romantic adventure “The Idea of You” attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video, becoming Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the studio.
As Amazon did not detail exactly what counts as a “view,” it should be noted that streaming viewership numbers self-reported by platforms still come with many caveats. Some brands solely report total minutes or hours watched, while others divide that total by each projects runtime to arrive at an estimated number of views. Streamers almost never disclose the exact number of viewers who watched the entirety of their titles, and as Amazon did not define their metric regarding “The Idea of You,” it is possible that a significant portion of the 50 million reporter viewers only watched a short piece of the movie.

Prime’s prominent chart leader, Anne Hathaway’s romantic comedy The Idea of You has rekindled people’s interest in the movies exploring the topic of the romances between people with significant age differences. However, in the case of Hathaway’s movie and other similar romcoms the age-gaps are still within the bounds of law and moral.

Back in 2017, Robinne Lee dropped by a local L.A. news station for an interview promoting her role in “Fifty Shades Darker,” the second film in the steamy series based on books by E.L. James.
“You’re venturing out a little bit now with a new novel…” the Kcal anchor said to Lee, whose filmography already included “Deliver Us From Eva,” “Hitch” and “13 Going on 30,” teeing the actor up to mention her career pivot. “I have a novel coming out this spring called ‘The Idea of You,’” Lee replied, grinning.
The premise was unique: A divorced mother and art gallery owner, living in L.A. on the precipice of turning 40, takes her daughter to a concert meet-and-greet and the 20-year-old lead singer of the band falls in love with her. The story, Lee explained, was “as much about a love story complicated by celebrity and the underbelly of...

“The Idea of You” was the most-streamed movie of the May 3-9 viewing window, per Luminate. The movie, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, was watched for 714.2 million minutes between May and May 9, its first full week of availability on Amazon Prime Video.

Nicholas Galitzine is quickly turning into one of Hollywood’s rising stars with steamy roles in last year’s British rom-com “Red, White, and Royal Blue” (now with a sequel on approach) and this year’s age-gap romance “The Idea of You.” However, in an interview with British GQ recently, Galitzine admitted that having the opportunity to take on quality roles is a relatively new phenomenon for him.
