Drishyam 2 (2021)
3/10
Not what I expected!

Warning: Spoilers
Drishyam 2- Just a plain old typical story with an ending not even about half as enthralling as the whole Drishyam movie.

In my opinion, this movie has all the potential to become the biggest failure of Jeethu Joseph. The fact that the director justifies every mistake in a scene immediately in the next scene is actually passively impressive.. (like the justification on why they don't sleep with the physically ill child and how he succeeded in pulling of this act calling it the 'risk element').

The first half just evolves around the daily routine of the protagonist and his family, the speculations of the village people and an introduction of a new eye-witness (which I believe is made solely for the purpose of making a sequel). It adds nothing to the story apart from the fact that it pleases the audience to see their superstar (Mohanlal) in the way they wish to see, as a family man living an ordinary lifestyle rather than a shaolin champion wearing sunglasses and formal attire even in his home XD..

But the interval punch of bringing in a twist is just a cliche (tired of seeing them in tamil, telugu and even malayalam) which may amuse people, but clearly not what we expect from a highly talented directer which pulled off mind-blowing blockbusters with reverse-twists and all that.. But can be tolerated as the movie won't move any further without it.

But portraying the protagonist as a mere lucky man who has no sense of intelligence, may disturb his fans. Murali Gopi had done a good job within the limits of his character. And still repeating the same dialogue even after lining up all the evidences, just pulls down the rating of the 'classic criminal's to zero. And he proceeds to narrate a story which seems to be utter nonsense.

Movies make twists to entertain the audience, something which entirely deviates from what people think. Here the twist is so legally backed up which closes all the chance to get entertained..

SPOILER!! They didn't even need the 'book drama' if he was planning to replace the bones with someone else's by establishing relationships for years with people who never suspect why he did so. Even if the book was a back-up, it's not even a defence against the culprit. How is a book going to be a reason why the police arrest him? The books ends like any other story, with the man who buried the dead body getting punished by law. Even if the book was published or not, the situation remains the same. Protagonist taken into hearing, and left free realizing evidence unworthy (Didn't match DNA). The book was a decoy to make people feel that this was a thriller suspense drama in-planning for two long years. It adds nothing to the story apart from the waste of time and for the confused looks of the officials. How can one claim that the forces arrested him by reading the book and not because protagonist has done a crime? It's a blunder from the team of Drishyam 2.

The music got the flavour of 'suspense reveal' only at the last half an hour. Really working on that music would have helped to increase the suspens e for the film as the film didn't have a power-packed bgm to claim of (apart from the main line music).

I do not demand an ordinary man must add a 'wow' moment at every scene. But they could have done better. Or else they could have dropped the idea of making the sequel. People go behind the hype claiming it to be the best. I was thoroughly disappointed even though I didn't give it much expectations. Turns out to be just like any other film of Mohanlal, which makes his days numbered in the film industry.

Thankyou for reading this review and sorry if I hurt anybody..
