I dislike true crime shows that don't end with capturing the perp. These all do and that's a big plus. Most other shows are populated mostly with civil employees; city, county, state and federal - and they are all acting in official capacities and their demeaner is "official". But not CeCe. She's an ordinary citizen, with exceptional knowledge and skills, helping solve cold cases. I don't mind the casual filming from her home or introducing us to her husband, who's in the kitchen. This is not your usual true crime show, and for that I'm grateful. I hope there are many more episodes.

Can't wait for the next episodes. This is "state of the art" true crime solving in an emerging field.
This first episode introduces the main characters: CeCe, GEDMatch and Codis. Future episodes will certainly focus on the mystery and "whodunnit"
Looking forward to each episode!

A new way of figuring things out
ckonopacky1 July 2020
Being a genealogist I really could relate to this show and this new science. People have no idea how much work goes into keeping family records, names and events alive What's wrong with one more way of solving crime and putting scumbags where they belong?
Too much back-story
denisej-7209419 June 2020
I love the story and how DNA is such an essential tool to solve a crime. I love the closure families get once a horrific crime has been solved solved. I appreciate CeCe's passion. What I don't like is all the backstory about CeCe...what she used to do, how her interest in DNA grew, blah, blah! Get to the story at hand!!!
Good Concept, a Little Slow & Redundant
fleck05IMDB21 July 2020
Maybe I'm bored because I've done so much genealogy and recognize she's doing nothing thousands of people don't do every day (for families, though, not killers). The snail's pace and redundancy was grating, too. How many close ups of Ce-Ce's fingers do I need to see? It would be much better as a half hour show - there was a lot of filler.
There are a lot of people - especially women - into true life murder solving shows. With an everyday woman who learned about genealogy through experience not any special education, Ce Ce will be relatable to many women who learned by doing.
Mystery, murder, mad skills, and more...

I absolutely love this show! First, as our family's genealogist, I couldn't believe that someone was finally using this innovative and groundbreaking technique to solve crimes. Each episode is a fascinating adventure to see exactly how CeCe performs her detective work as she demonstrates her approach. Locked at home due to coronavirus, I could easily relate to her working from home on her laptop just as I do each day with family around, which will probably be the wave of the future. My true love is solving mysteries so after the first episode I was hooked. She is clearly deeply empathetic, professional and dedicated to doing the best job that she can. The fact that each of these cases gets resolved intrigued me. The appeal of the cold cases was that her technique had the potential to finally bring closure to these long-suffering families. However, I was thrilled to see her work contribute to securing a conviction for an active case resulting in a dangerous perpetrator being taken off the streets before hurting someone else. I know the law enforcement team in these various and demanding cases who worked every other tool at their disposal to solve these crimes are relieved and delighted to add this powerful tool to their arsenal. This show is profoundly satisfying in a way that many other reality TV programs strive to be and fail.
Interesting stories told in the most boring way
MiketheWhistle14 June 2020
I've watched a couple eps and I'm done. There is simply too much filler and boring stuff to make it worthwhile. The science and ability to use dna to solve very cold cases is interesting and great, but they simply tell the story in a manner to drag it out painfully. If the show were refined it could be worth it, but it simply doesn't work.
Intriguing new show

I thoroughly enjoyed watching each episode of this show. I never missed an episode and even watched each again to catch the little bits and tricks The Genetic Detective uses to solve the mysteries she presents each week. Each new show was fascinating and gut wrenching. I loved learning a bit more about her and how she strengthened her skills over the years. I hope there is a season two!
Love Genetic Detective

I am into genealogy, and recently did my own DNA test. I love this show, and how she works both forward and backwards through family trees to find suspects. It's very interesting how she stumbled across such an amazing career from just a hobby!! I hope this show continues for many seasons!!!!
A Must Watch Series

A riveting show which highlights Ms. Moore's ability utilize DNA and her knowledge of family tree building to bring closure to the families of murder victims and the victims of violent crimes. Her compassion and commitment to helping others is evident in each and every episode.
Really hoping for a Season 2!

Loved the show - the explanation of the technical genetic genealogy elements is really helpful both for those trying to understand the work involved, and also those trying their hand at DNA testing for genealogy for the first time! I have connected with friends who are fellow-watchers and they are beginning to understand how DNA testing to find family works; it is inspiring folks to DNA test and upload their DNA results to GEDmatch to participate.
Very happy for the families receiving closure long overdue, and grateful that CeCe is out there making a difference in a huge way for many families, and setting an example going forward - criminal law enforcement will change dramatically because of this work.
I enjoyed the window into CeCe's world; we get to see how much she cares and how passionate and enthusiastic she is about what she does. I particularly enjoyed the action-charged episodes where the police took us along for the ride when a living suspect was aprehended due to CeCe's solve.

Mind blowing

If you like crime shows, this is for you. And if you don't, this is an introduction to something that seems taken out of a sci fi movie. The stories are compelling, true, emotional. Perhaps a tiny bit less of CeCe in each and every episode will make the show more dynamic.
Drags...

Way too slow. Needs to cover at least two or three crimes per episode. The personal life of the lead character is a distraction from the interest of show. Great technology content but horribly boring presentation. Watched two shows and won't watch tonight's episode or any more.
Love the Show!
fgcraggs-119 July 2020
I absolutely love this show and I have a ton of respect for law enforcement, Cece Moore, Parabon and everyone involved in solving crimes.
As much as I loved watching this show, I understand how time consuming it
is to produce tv shows.
And I totally understand how extremely important Cece's work is.
So if we don't get to see you on tv, most of us understand why.
Thank you for producing such a good show!
Interesting cases, don't care about CeCe Moore's personal life
scaroline17 June 2020
The cases are interesting but I find myself fast-forwarding through most of the episodes. Moore clearly thinks highly of herself and a good portion of each episode is herself or the local police stroking her ego, or rehashing over again how she got into genetic genealogy. I'm interested in her work but I don't want to watch the same things about her personal life week after week.

Something different, new, real
atreecalledlife19 July 2020
If you are looking for a routine whodunnit, have a short attention span, or prefer fiction, then this show probably isn't for you. This show is about something different, something new, and something real. Citizen scientists like CeCe Moore have pioneered the use of genetic genealogy to identify unknown subjects over the past decade. Law enforcement is playing catch up now, and fortunately for the real families of real victims and potential future victims some detectives are not too embarrassed to ask for help. I feel privileged to watch this forensic science development unfolding up close and personal. And yes it is personal. The show's title character is an ordinary citizen doing extraordinary things, a real person with a real history and a real family, and we get a glimpse of that. I have watched all six episodes and my only complaint is I want more.
If you love solving true crime, especially cold cases, this show has everything

Warning: Spoilers
Cece Moore's explanations on ancestry data search are fascinating. If a person is not in CODIS (the national repository for DNA, typically from known criminals) it takes a whole lot more than a DNA hit in GEDmatch (the repository for DNA samples from Ancestry and other providers) to figure out who the criminal is. The DNA hit on a relative combined with birth records, census data, newspaper clippings and obituaries all come into play and family trees are constructed. Using a process of elimination, this eventually leads to the criminal. One episode involves an unsolved 32 year old murder Cece Moore figured out in 2 hours using these techniques. Great TV if you like to see real life crimes solved.
