Xavier Alvarez, an ambitious young man from humble origins wants to get he has not been able to have. Xavier craves a better life than he has known. Interested in politics, he realizes his only way out of his present status is to aggressively look for it, wherever he can find it, and most importantly, not to show any scruples while getting what he wants.
As a way out of his present station, Xavier tries to interest Vincent Cluzet, a man who is running for the office of the mayor in Aix-en- Provence, a city in the South of France. Vincent is a decent man. He wants to run on his own merits against the corrupt man that is the incumbent. Vincent has no chance, or so it appears. Xavier makes himself available to the somewhat naive Vincent to get him elected.
Along the way, Xavier enlists his friend, Yacine, to be part of the team behind the candidate. Playing dirty tricks on the incumbent, Vincent is seen as the only choice for the voters. He gets elected. Now with his friend in high office, Xavier wants to sell him the idea for a new development, closer to his own heart. Little does he know Vincent's father-in-law, an influential man, will see Xavier's schemes and will be his downfall.
An interesting film directed by Francois Favrat. The director co-wrote the screenplay with Stephane Cabel. The action centers around the machinations Xavier has planned to get ahead. Vincent, an honest man when he starts, will be a completely changed man when Xavier is through with him. The dirty world of politics is examined by Mr. Favrat in this movie that shows how low certain individual will go to get what they want when it comes the time to redeem favors done while getting to the top.
Clovis Cornillac's Xavier is a complex young man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Best in the film, in our humble opinion is Christian Claver, a character actor who has worked in a lot of comedies and shows he is a fine player who is a perfect match to his much younger co-star. Also in the film, Michel Aumont, Sami Boujila, Vimala Pons, in supporting roles.
